He is believed to be traveling to the Dutch embassy about 190 miles south of Arica. When he enters there he can't be arrested by the Peruvian/Chilean authorities. He has 48 hours to get there (before the international arrest warrant goes out).

Ok then, saturate the area surrounding the Dutch embassy - don't let him get near it. I bet that place is crawling right about now.

And P.S. - The Dutch probably don't want to deal with him AT ALL.

It wouldn't bother me at all if the reports of his suicide proved to be true. It would mean that no other woman would die at his hands, and no other legal maneuvers could free him. It would also mean we wouldn't have to look at this creepy person for months on end until a trial. Maybe we could learn more about what happened, but the sooner the world is rid of this monster, the better. That is if he really did kill both of them, and I truly believe he did or he is the unluckiest man in the world to be associated with both of these cases if he really didn't.

Weird, but last night when I heard on NG the story of this girls' murder, I wondered if VDS would commit suicide if cornered. I hope not, only because it might bring some small comfort for Natalee's family to get a confession or admission that she truly is gone forever. I don't think he's the suicide type, though. He is a narcissist who thinks he is invincible, IMO. And because of that, he takes huge risks that will eventually be his undoing.

In that case the police should form a blockade around the embassy. A line of policeman or something. Or is that against international law?

From Radio Nacional del Peru - 75 Detectives Working the Case In Chile

With 75 detectives, Chile searching for murderer of young Peruvian
With 75 detectives from the Police Department strongly Chile seeks citizen Joran Van Der Sloot Netherlands (23), suspected of murdering the daughter of a Peruvian entrepreneur.

Latercera.com He informed the inspector of the PDI prefect of Arica, Douglas Rodriguez, the man is being investigated by the death of Stephany Ramirez Flores, 21, daughter of Peruvian racer Ricardo Flores, "rifle." On 30 May, Van der Sloot contacted his victim in a casino and then took her to a hotel where he ended his life.

"The information received is that the person is charged as a possible perpetrator of a murder and say they need their location and whereabouts, in this context we deploy our services at the border because the intention, according to some background is that I wanted to go to Argentina, "Rodriguez said.

? We have stepped up checks at border crossings to the minute but we have no record of that back out of the country? He said.

He added that on May 31 received the Interpol request for requesting the location of the young Dutchman and that in these days have received 10 phone calls made by people claiming to have seen, even frequenting nightclubs in the area. However, these records have been dismissed after the complainants were shown photographs of Van Der Sloot.

Along with the scans in the border areas, the prefect inspector Douglas Rodriguez said the Peruvian citizens who left the murderer in Chile and were questioned in the neighboring country.

Van der Sloot was also investigated by the case of American teenager Natalee Holloway who disappeared on the beaches of Aruba, the United States, and later appeared dead in 2005.

An earlier news report from SA media said they had roadblocks at all the roads in and out of Arica. If true, they're putting some effort into catching him there and must feel he's still in the area.

They showed the hotel on MSNBC about an hour ago and it didn't look lower end to me. I'm not an international traveller, but it did look nice. Very modern, glass exterior. It had TAC on the side of the building. I guess that was the correct hotel.

Flow, I am an international traveler, Fox News has showed it repeatedly. They said it is more like a "hostel," which is a really cheap hotel that you often share rooms with others.

It reminded me of one of the sketchy places in down town Vegas. I have stayed in a lot of hostels, and it isn't the kind of place that I would stay in.

Hope this helps.

I hope he doesn't reportedly commit suicide because I would forever wonder if it was really him or if he substituted a body & paid off some 3rd world government officials just to get the heat off of him.

Ashleigh Banfield!

[That is the guest host on The View today. I'm not sure how you spell her name.]

Oh, I hope he tries to leave by boat. Certainly there are pirates down that way that would love to take his money and anything else expensive off of him and then kill him. And the thought of him hiding in a cramped cargo space just makes me laugh. Certainly not the accommodations he's used to!

I seriously hope he's not able to go anywhere by plane, or he might not be caught for awhile. And I really wish people would stop being impressed by his money and do the right thing by turning him in, not helping him get away.

And I'd like to think, since it was the five year anniversary, maybe Natalee helped that girl fight back to finally get this evil *advertiser censored*. I hope there's lot of DNA under her fingernails, and I hope he has scratches on his face and arms from her fighting back so hard.

Checkmate, Joran. You aren't getting away this time. I hope you're shaking in your boots. You should be.

I haven't been on in SOOO long, but I had to come back for this. How terribly sad another young girl has died. May she rest in peace.

I thought of that yesterday. He's probably crazy enough to knock his own teeth out for this purpose.

I don't understand how they can issue an international arrest warrant for him but that Survivor producer guy is safe and sound because he crossed a border??:furious:

I'm surprised they have to wait 48 hours in the post 9/11 world.

I really wonder why he wouldn't have boarded a plane on Sunday before she was found. Even a dummie like me would be smart enough to do that.

It is strange in my opinion that her father also is known to disappear for days at a time. An important businessman is usually in constant contact with his office or at least tells them where he will be and how long he will be away.

I am no fan of JVS but this whole thing doesn't seem right to me for some reason.

Could her father or girlfriend have done this and is just throwing the famous Joran's name out as a distraction?

Thank you for posting this. I don't believe that I have any alternative theory or explanation, the entire story gives me an "uneasy" feeling. It's just weird. Im not defending JVS--he makes me want to vomit, but I would like all the hype to settle down so that I can see all the facts clearly for myself. All of these random net articles seem rather tabloidish to me...a boat to New Zealand? Some secret Peruvian source having contact with him during his escape? Stephany really being a lesbian? His alleged suicide? I'm not saying anyone is stupid for their posts, I am just having a hard time discerning fact from fiction, and believing everything that is being linked here.

Yes, "the entire island" had no idea he was a sociopath, a liar, rapist and murderer. Huh. I wonder if the Kalpoes will come forward now and tell what they know, or that they and other Arubans who know what happened will continue to cover up in the hope that the story will go away.

I wouldn't go to Aruba if they gave away a free ticket and it was the last place in the world where the sun would shine.

I'm going to say this and then probably duck and hide...

I have been to Aruba twice since NH 5 yrs ago. I have found the people to be very kind and accomodating. Granted, I was a tourist and yes, they want my money. Granted, I or no one in my party disappeared.. I get all of that. But I can only say it is a very beautiful place, with what I believe to be very good people. I will also say I had the opportunity to witness an interaction between the Aruba native people (2 individual persons) and a Dutch national living there, all working together. There was a general sense in the air that the Dutch national felt 'above' everyone else, he was taking it upon himself to 'call the shots' in OUR personal situation/experience/business exchange and there was very much a tension there, and it didnt seem to be entirely isolated to simply conflicting personalities between these three people working together. There was a resentment in the air that I, and others in my party took to be almost akin to a 'racial/class' thing going on with that particular situation and in other interactions through the country you also got vague 'hints' of it here and there. It was picked up in many areas, specific example, cab rides and the chitchat that goes on in those brief, isolated conversations, etc.

Hope what I am trying to describe makes sense. It seems to me overall in this small country there is a definite line drawn between the classes of the Aruba native people and the Dutch nationals who essentially own/run the country. I had never been BEFORE the NH case, so I can only speculate as to whether that has always been present or if it is just magnified now because of the negative attention this ONE individual, JVDS, a Dutch national brought to the island.

ETA: Our interaction goes along the same lines the noted article above does with this snip:

"We were actually digging in a landfill, and we went back to get the permits to continue digging. And Gerold Dompig actually took us to a little warehouse -- it was kind of like we were into do some drug deal like you see on TV -- and he says, 'You don't need to be digging in the landfill anymore,' he said 'Joran van der Sloot is responsible for this, that body was taken out to sea.' Gerald Dompig's words to us were that Joran van der Sloot was a sociopath, that he controlled the entire family, even his father was afraid of him. And it's unfortunate that more couldn't be done to have Joran locked up."

Kind of hush-hush whispered things that are elluded to here and there. As if the Aruba natives hands are tied when it comes to going against the Dutch nationals and the government there that vehemently protects them.

Great interview with TM. Thanks for posting this. Interesting what the officer told him and Dave H about Joran while they were digging in an Aruban landfill. Neither of these poor girls had a chance against this sicko.

I think the whole island shared this officer's opinion. That would account for the closed ranks during the investigation.

Interview with Peruvian taxi driver

The Dutchman flew (fled) to Arica by land. Chilean Police intensified their search and, if caught, would be moved to Peru.

The Dutchman looked nervous and did not talk much. (Pan)

The Dutchman citizen led them to believe he wanted to visit Nazca. "When you get to a bus station, gave us S/.1, 500 soles to go to Tacna. When we got there we gave S/.280 to go to Arica, "he said Oswaldo Aparcana, the driver who moved to Van der Sloot, who has a background in other countries.
