The search is now concluded without finding her remains, but we may revisit in the coming weeks police said this arvo .
( as heard on local radio 3BA )

Like everyone, disappointed that poor Samantha wasn't found today

Boy, he has done a good job of hiding her !

I still just wonder If the accused's GF had some involvement.

Not in the actual crime itself

but maybe not being truthful with police,

hiding evidence etc...

The police have never come out and said the accused GF has no involvement with Samantha

We still don't know where she was on that day

In a past link someone posted here about different remand centres and what happens at each, I'm pretty sure I read that prisoners on remand only get one visit per month, and it has to be someone on the approved list. The accused would have to allow his parents to visit him to be on the list, and I'm not sure how many people can visit at a time.

No, I think we will find that was for regular prison. (This is the original post by Slouth)

The link that JLZ later posted about remand says that the prisoners may have more visits and phone calls when on remand. I would imagine that they still have to be on an approved-by-the-prisoner list, though.

People on remand:
  • Are not held with convicted prisoners (unless this is impractical)
  • May have more access to visitors and phone calls to lawyers and legal representation
  • Have access to a legal library
  • May wear their own clothing, if applicable to their security rating
  • May work

I've tried to imagine what this very short encounter between Mrs. Murphy, jogging along, and Mr. S . doing what? just standing there? . running in the opposite direction? ... Did she have something he wanted urgently? her phone? what was it that made him approach her. And then, kill her.

Not knowing anything about her, who she was, she knew nothing about him , who he was, they had no background of disturbance. Two complete strangers on a bush track, on a warm and sunny Sunday morning.

Bright sunlight, no cloud cover, she with her brunch to get smartened up for, him with what to do that day? chores? car maintenance? lunch with the girlfriend?

What set him off? was he ready for her? or him? whatever came down the track?? I want to know these things. Women's lives are becoming restricted, and contained, out of safety, it's horrid, and intolerable.

One just needs to see the doped up video of the accused from January to understand that he knew exactly what affect the drugs would have on him. Btw, who is happy for a video of themselves like this to be so freely available months after the event? Or is this a regular occurrence?
I believe it was a Snapchat video. From my limited understanding of Snapchat, the users post snippets of videos and they're meant to disappear after 24 hours, but of course there are ways of saving, or recording these. What I will never understand is why people are quite happy to be caught on video, or have photos taken of them, doing illegal things. I am so happy I grew up in a time before the internet, where the only evidence of anything embarrassing is in people's memories. All the fun, zero evidence. :)

I was thinking about this earlier.
I was wondering why ANY of these women are attacked by random strangers, and that is where lies the answer.

The woman was running along Railway Parade in Lidcome, in the city's west, when a man approached her from behind and covered her face with his hands before forcing her to the ground.
Terrifying moment Sydney jogger attacked by stranger

A Perth mother has been left seriously wounded after a stranger allegedly attacked her with a hammer and wooden stake.
Mum allegedly attacked with hammer by stranger at Perth service station
(This guy thought he was real cute, and asked the mum if she wanted to "get hammered" before he attacked her)

Time to repeat this post, of SHERELE MOODY"s website..

( Sherele's own story is about as hideous as any story ever told on websleuths, which is one of the reasons she tracks these murders and memorialises the women. )

Thank you Trooper for posting the link to Australian Femicide Watch. This site is very sad, but very important to read in my opinion. The numbers of women being murdered are unbelievable, yet they are the truth. JMO

I think the obvious proof of sorts would be from witness statements of his friends and those he was socialising on the Saturday night and early hours of Sunday morning. I don't know if it''ll proof enough-in the absence of blood and breath tests from that day, the witness accounts are likely to form part of likliehoods, without being definitive. Unless someone is willing to testify they witnessed him ingesting worrying levels of drugs and alcohol at intervals until a particular time.
Perhaps CCTV footage of him staggering from pub to club in an altered state of mind? MOO

Thanks, that article doesn't ring any bells, but I may have read it. So many articles - so little time! I stand corrected.

Ditto, I too would like to know. According to tonight’s news report ch9 he’s not cooperating with LE. Extremely frustrating

He can’t be questioned again, unless he gives permission

He’s not going to be before the courts until August .

So forget about getting any help from him !

Oof, what a piece of crap he is (presuming he is guilty as charged, which seems pretty solid at this point).

Still, I am fully confident that he is NAILED. The confidence and (relative) speed the Police placed the murder charge on him fills me with hope.

Either way, Patrick's life will never be the same. If he's guilty of the murder of Samantha as presented to us in the media...rightly so.

Oh no I really thought today was the day she’d be found.

Can’t imagine how her family is feeling now, I’m sure the search today got their hopes up that they’d finally be able to lay Samantha to rest and give her a beautiful send off.

I feel the only way she’s going to be found is if his dad or mum get it out of him - I can’t see him cooperating with the police.

He certainly won't be getting any 'special treatment' from the police

And usually a bit of "re-education" from pa's stern hand or mums wooden spoon

Finding SM's body is fundamental for the police, the family, the community and also for the nation. Understanding what has happened will be the best defense.
Knowing this you would have to wonder why todays intensive , well resourced search was concluded at 3.30 pm with four hours daylight remaining!
Were they given a ‘bum steer’ ?

It seemed like they were only focused on searching a small section today. Maybe efforts still continue this week.

The process of elimination?

Trying to scare people connected to the accused into coming forward with more info?

Why were there police there on dirtbikes? Not sure what role they play riding around on dirt trails?

Interesting...

I found this quote interesting ..
“Hopefully today’s search will benefit the investigation or provide further avenues of enquiry for police. We will also look at further searches in the Ballarat area as the investigation progresses.”
Source:

I wonder if they were doing some type of reenactment based on data or something similar? Or yes, maybe ruling things out. MOO.

I was also so hopeful today.

ETA: Maybe they also had to see if driving a car vs dirt bike was plausible. Some sections may be harder to drive down/be inaccessible by car vs dirt bike etc.

False information. Probably not. I suspect that every piece of information that is received is reviewed and acted upon accordingly. That intelligence received must have been of importance because it's all about manpower and resources and the best use of those. They had to research that area for whatever reason they we're directed to do. MOO

I completely agree wulfmoon.
Even if they found nothing, the "compliance" aspect of the exercise would have been very powerful - Vicpol calmly going about their business, leaving no stone unturned. No sense of desperation. Well-resourced.

Choppers + trail bikes + sniffer dogs = PRESSURE. JMO

Pressure to confess? Pressure to come forward?

I'm sure word would get to PS on remand they are out searching using all resources available
