Australia Samantha Murphy, 51, last seen leaving her property to go for a run in the Canadian State Forest, Ballarat, 4 Feb 2024 *Arrest* #9

It is interesting that LE have only just charged him for these offences, which happened in October last year. Why now?

Is it possible that originally LE weren’t going to charge him? Have they had a change of mind and decided to add the extra charges now in the hopes of getting him to talk about the location of SM body? Is that even something that LE would do? Does this interfere with sub-judice?

Criminality and legalities are not my area of expertise… I’m a marketing / corporate comms specialist and work closely with media outlets and journalists (hence my earlier comment about stories selling papers).

I'm gobsmacked that his driving licence was not revoked immediately!!!

Drunk/drugged drivers are potential murderers IMO.
Hazard! Danger on the road!

I have neither patience nor pity for such people.

I'm now following the case on WS of a drunk woman who plowed into a building killing 2 kids.
Terrible

Does this interfere with sub-judice? Does the laying of these charges now mean that LE / media can talk more openly about his precious drug/drink driving offences? Is there some big news coming?

With a court date already set for the 8th August for a charge involving the Highway Patrol, perhaps he was charged with something at the time and they have added these fresh charges?

So many charges - traffic/DUI - and he was
STILL merrily using his UTE.
Benders, benders and more benders.
Dolce Vita!

I give up :(

I do wonder if the recent spate of deaths of women in Ballarat are related in some fashion. The age of the alleged murderers of SM and Hannah McGuire are 22 & 21 respectively. Hannah McGuire's brother Fletcher McGuire was recently jailed for over 4 years for crimes committed locally and he was 21. Did the alleged killer of H McGuire a Lachie Young know PS?. Were drugs an issue for all 3 males ?. Was the bikie who allegedly killed his defacto a supplier to these young men who in turn used and dealt the drugs?.Did the disappearance of SM cause a domino effect as a result of various peoples involvement in matters related to the disappearance, cover ups, secrets being kept, drug supply etc etc.

wasnt there another charge coming up, that offender with the same name as ps, but not related to traffic offences?
im wondering if there is some sort of sexual deviance here and if his friends handed police video evidence of a crime against sm after her death, if he filmed himself and sent it to them thinking it was funny?
So far relating to SM, the accused has only been charged with murder. Maybe other charges will be added later, like interfering with a corpse.

Yeah, P platers, especially young male ones, are over represented in accident stats. I guess it's an effort to reduce the road toll and ensure drivers are experienced before hitting the road on their own and without any markings showing they're new drivers.

"Back in my day" it was nothing like this. I can count the times I drove on one hand before I sat for, and passed, my licence. Definitely much harder, but safer, these days.
All I did was take the local copper (who was also my basketball coach) for a drive around town and did a hill start. Then he told me to put on the P plates for a year, because he'd seen me driving around town for the past month.

"The key Samantha Murphy question

that still hasn't been answered after she vanished without a trace three months ago.

Criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro said it is unlikely any more information into what happened to Ms Murphy will be made public in the near future.

The accused has reserved his plea and in that setting he's entitled to the presumption of innocence so it's unlikely anymore information regarding her will be coming,'
he told Daily Mail Australia.

'I imagine he's maintained his right to silence.'

While speaking generally about those who have been convicted of murder,
Mr Watson-Munro said there can be reasons why they stay quiet

'They'd rather go to the grave maintaining a position of innocence than an acknowledgement of guilt.'

He said another reason was that they may fear how their loved ones may react.

In Victoria in 2017,
the 'no body, no parole' law was introduced,
meaning convicted killers can be refused parole if they don't disclose where their victims were.

The law was introduced in NSW in 2022, and is also used in Queensland and South Australia.

A Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia
there are currently no active searches for Ms Murphy.

'The community has been incredibly impacted by Ms Murphy's disappearance,'
Mr Watson-Munro added.

'You'd hope the body could be found for the sake of the family'."

He'll wait and see If he's found guilty to disclose her body

Just thinking… SM was a Richmond FC supporter. PS’s Dad played for Richmond FC. If she was a Richmond supporter; it’s likely she knew who the Dad was. And if she volunteered at the school that PS went to when he was in primary school, I’d imagine there’d be a good possibility she knew the family attended the school, and therefore know PS.

Police said there was no connection between them.

"Detectives from the missing persons squad arrested Stephenson,
who they said

was not linked to the Murphy family."

I really don't get one thing.

His lawyer said PS had NO alcohol/drug problem.

Ummm...What????

And here are charges connected exactly to drugs/alcohol - when he smashed a vehicle.

Not to mention films circulating in MSM with the accused completely "stoned".

Why to say such a thing and later look really foolish?

What was the reason for that peculiar statement???

Silence is golden, as the wise say.

"On Thursday, the court heard Stephenson, a tradesman, did not suffer from any drug problems or mental health conditions."

Lawyer: I'm sorry, I have to ask you this. Do you have a drug or alcohol problem?
PS: Nah mate, not at all. No shortage in Ballarat.

I know this was said - and well may Mick & the kids have said they didn’t know or his family, but they are not able to factually speak for Sam, IMO.
