BREAKING: Coroner releases Faye Marie Swetlik’s cause of death, confirms 6-year-old girl was a homicide victim
[...]

Margaret Fisher said at the news conference that the six-year-old girl died of asphyxiation, and that she was not killed at the location where her body was found last week.

Fisher said that authorities believe Faye “died elsewhere, and her body had been at that location for only a short time.”

Investigators found Faye’s body last Thursday in a wooded area very close to the girl’s home. A man identified as Coty Taylor, reportedly a neighbor of Faye’s, was found dead in his home, just yards away, on the same day.

Autopsy reveals heartbreaking details of 6-year-old Faye Marie Swetlik’s death
[...]

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher struggled to share how Faye died Tuesday.

It was concluded that Faye died just a few hours after she was abducted.

Officials said the 6-year-old died of “asphyxiation,” which means she was strangled or choked to death.

When police found Faye’s body, they said she had only been there a short time. The coroner said Faye did not die where she was found.

Neighbor killed Faye Swetlik the day she went missing, killed himself days later, police say
[...]

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released Swetlik's cause of death but did not give many details beyond that she died of asphyxiation, saying she did that out of respect to the family. She said Swetlik was not killed in the woods where her body was found, and had only been there a short time before she was discovered.

After the news conference ended, her office sent a news released confirming Taylor killed himself "as a result of an incised wound to his neck."

[...]

... Thursday, officers found Swetlik's polka dot boot as well as as a ladle with dirt in it in a trash can near Taylor's home. That led them to the woods near the area, where Snellgrove found Faye's body.

As that discovery was being made, officers went to Taylor's home, where they found him bleeding on the back patio. He was declared dead.

Police: Girl, 6, was killed by neighbor who then killed self
[...]

Faye Marie Swetlik died of asphyxiation just hours after she was abducted, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher told reporters Tuesday, refusing to say if she was strangled or suffocated.

[...]

Shortly after the girl's body was found, authorities said, they were called to Taylor's home where he was found dead on his back porch, covered in blood.

Taylor, 30, slit his own throat, Fisher said in a statement released after Tuesday's news conference, in which the coroner only wanted to talk in front of cameras about the girl.

[...]

“DNA was tested and did connect and link the residence, the deceased male and Faye to that location," Snellgrove said.

[...]

The clue that cracked the case came from a trash can. Investigators followed a trash truck going around the neighborhood Thursday and sifted through every can as it was emptied. Inside Taylor's can, Snellgrove said, they found a rain boot matching one Faye was wearing and a ladle full of dirt.

Snellgrove said he ordered a search near the area and personally found the girl's body which was “moved in shadow of the night.”

Taylor had a roommate who was not home much while the girl was missing, said Snellgrove, adding the roommate appeared to know nothing about the abduction.

Tuesday night, just hours after Faye Swetlik's autopsy was released, more than 100 people stood in rainy weather to honor the little girl's life.

[...]

“Everyone quickly grew to love her smile, her joyful spirit, and her very kind heart,” said Hope Vrana, principal of Springdale Elementary School.

[...]

Members of this close-knit community said the six year old's death is affecting everyone.

[...]

“I feel her pain. I feel her pain as a grandparent and as a mother. I can feel her pain,” said CR.

[...]

“I’ve prayed diligently for law enforcement as they searched for her, prayed for her family for answers as announced they had found her,” said PW.

Poor sweet little girl. My heart aches for her family.

I am so glad that things have moved along quickly and commend the investigating officers.
