The Surveillance System and The Tapes

I posted this on the Justin thread but I reread the Investigator Zack Wards documentation which was extremely thorough and NO where does he state that Justin was taken upstairs to the video room in fact he states that an employee from TSI security was taken upstairs to assist w/system. This information (his notes) are on the Fox newsite downloads, Page 1077. No Justin at all and his documentation is excellent and extremely compelling.

I responded in the other thread. I'll copy my response here:

I'm still reading, but I wonder if it's because he's a crime scene tech who arrived after the origional officers. It was the origional officers who mentioned in their interrogation of Justin that Justin helped them with the video. My point is that perhaps this crime scene tech didn't witness Justin helping with the video equipment. Maybe it happened prior to his arrival.

One thing I do find interesting is that the crime scene tech was informed that there was a "possible missing safe" upon his arrival. I want to know when and how LE first learned that there was a possible missing safe. They couldn't have known it was missing if they didn't know it had been there.

They had to have a conversation with someone to learn that there had been a safe there. If they learned it from watching the video, then they did watch the video prior to this crime scene tech arriving. That would mean that Justin would have been helping them, and that's how Justin learned there was a safe missing. If they learned it from talking to family, Justin was the only family at the scene.

I'm still bothered by how LE overly focused on Justin knowing about the safe missing when LE hasn't made it clear how they learned the safe was missing themselves in their reports.

For the record, LE themselves said Justin helped with the video when they were interrogating him. It's in the transcripts.

Miss Muffet, that is what appears to have happened. Justin assisted the first responders to the home with the video security system. Justin was probably being interviewed when other investigators showed up to the home.

I don't have a page number for reference, but I remember reading something about the missing safe in the master bedroom closet and that LE could tell that something was missing cuz of the indents in the carpet. Anyone else remember this and do you have a page # for it?

I haven't read that, but it makes sense that's how LE might have suspected a safe was missing.

Daisy7, I remember reading that too. IIRC, it was the next day, when they went back to the house. I will see if I can find the doc.

If LE only documented the indented rug the next day, we can't be certain that's how they learned about the safe missing.

btw, I posted some detailed interrogation questions/answers in Justin's thread about the safe.

The transcripts prove that LE had a conversation with Justin about the safes prior to doing a recorded statement.

Well, it took a lot of reading but success! I finally found the doc.

On page 11, CST Wayne Wright, mentions that a safe may be missing and talks about the closet. This is on 7/9.

He returns on 7/10 for follow-up processing.
Page 13 is where he discusses the indentations and measurements.

I saw an interesting theory on another forum re; a possible reason the surveillance system and why it was still running to the surprise of the murderers.

There is the possibility that the system was disabled, remotely or otherwise. Then turned back on by either Melanie or Bud. Actually not that far fetched. You've gotta figure it wouldn't be unusual for one of them to be checking the monitor pretty regularly. While checking, they noticed it was down and turned it back on.

That occurred to me the other day. I think it's very possible that Bud (Melanie doesn't know how to use the sytem according to April) noticed the system was turned off and restarted it. Since they were closely monitoring the children, he would have noticed the system wasn't working.

HOWEVER

When April left, Bud was sitting on the sofa. When the intruders came into the house, Bud is standing near the sofa. So it's unlikely that the system was shut down and restarted by Bud immediately prior to the robbery since the system is located upstairs.

If the system was ever turned off, it was turned off much earlier. That would mean that the timing wasn't right in the robbery planning. IMO the system should have been shut down immediately prior to the robbery, not hours before hand.

Yes, and there is nothing surprising about the possibility of this bunch not being to time this properly. Even if they were kinda close, there is still a good possibility that one of the Billings' noticed it down and brought it back up pretty quickly.

Anyone really knowledgeable with the surveillance system could have disabled it to the point that it could not be brought up, or at least not so easily..........just a thought.

Surveillance video catches murder
Video to be viewed first by media on Thursday

"PENSACOLA, Fla. - For the first time in almost two months, the media and public will get to see exactly what happened in the Billings' home the night they were murdered. Officials announced the viewing of the video will begin Thursday.

The Video reportedly show the moment the intruders entered the home, all the way to the actual gunshots. The video also shows the safe being taken out of the master bedroom."

Daisy posted the link to the reports about what is seen on the video in the links section:
http://media2.fox10tv.com/billings/PR4.pdf

In the report, on page 19, it says that Bud was shot in the leg (apparently) and then lead to the bedroom, while Melanie waited with a child and a perp in the living room. Then Bud reappears in the living room and both Bud and Melanie are brought back to the bedroom.

Just a thought ...do you think Gonzalez Jr was having/forcing Bud to disable the video cameras and Bud didn't, but maybe just turned off the monitors but not the recording cameras? Maybe Bud was the one they were counting on to turn off the cameras?

I am sure we will learn a lot more when the press sees the video!
(I feel so sad for the child left standing there ...oh ...words can not express... )

Also, if you want to see (the video), you can call the state attorney's office at 595-4200 to make an appointment. Those appointments start on Friday.

It would be great if some local WebSleuthers would make an appointment and go see the video. I bet we will have some unanswered questions....

Anyone local planning on doing this? I'm not sure I could do it (logistically, emotionally?), but I know it won't be soon as I am going out of town Fri.

I'm definitely not going. I'll wait for media or another poster to report on it.

The system controls were upstairs and I really can't imagine any way BB could "bluff it". At this point, it wouldn't matter if the cameras were on or off, would it? They've already busted in and told them they are going to die. I wonder if any of the outside cameras caught someone rounding up the dogs. One part of the pdf keeps referring to individual going to and coming from a pond.

Is it going to be released to the media, or is the only way we will see it is if we make an appointment to do so?

Maybe I'm off on this, but why did BB put up his hands (like arrest?) when guys came in?
I'm curious if this is a normal reaction to do in home invasion?
any home invasion specialist out there????
or did BB somehow know there was trouble brewing that fateful night?
This act of execution was done in 4 minutes flat............so quick it's unimagineable!
