Wednesday, May 1st:
*Sentencing hearing (@ am ET) - NY – Susan Trott (70) (October 17, 2018, found in her apt. on Oct. 21, 2018, New York City) – *Anya Johnston (24/now 29) was indicted (10/30/18), arrested & charged (10/31/18) & arraigned (11/2/18) with murder (intentional). Plead not guilty by reason of insanity. Held without bond.
Anya had a history of mental health problems & was institutionalized in 2014 & 2016 for erratic behavior. Johnston’s early years in a Russian orphanage, where she’d been adopted. Johnston is currently hospitalized at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
Trial began on 1/22/24 with jury selection & ended on 1/25/24. Opening statements & trial began on 1/26/24 & ended 3/4/24 with a GUILTY verdict of 2nd degree murder.
Judge Ruth Pickholz presiding. Assistant DA Hannah Yu & defense attorney Jeremy Schneider.
If the jury returns a “not responsible” verdict, Johnston would proceed to court hearings to assess her dangerousness & determine appropriate confinement to a NY forensic psychiatric center. Evaluations & court oversight would continue during treatment; such post-acquittal confinement can sometimes continue for decades.
If the jury convicts, Johnston would face a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison.

*Trial continues (Day 12) (@ 9am PT) – CA – Blaze Bernstein (19) (Jan. 2, 2018, Lake Forest; found Jan. 9, 2018; he was stabbed 19 times in his neck; 14 times on the left, 5 on the right & 1 stab wound in his left knee) – *Samuel Lincoln Woodward (20/now 26) arrested (1/15/18) & charged (1/17/18) & arraigned (11/9/18) with 1 count of felony murder with a hate crime enhancement for killing someone because of their sexual orientation & sentencing enhancement-personal use of a knife. Plead not guilty (again on 11/9/18). $5M bail, bail revoked (11/9/18). In custody of the Theo Lacy jail.
Trial began on 4/9/24. Court DARK on Fridays.

*Trial continues (Day 13) (@ 9am CET) – Germany/Portugal - Hazel Behan (20 @ time/now 40) (in her home, June 16, 2004, Praia de Rocha on the Algarve coast, 10 miles from Praia de Luz, Portimao, Portugal) - *Christian Stefan Brückner (Bruekner) (27 @ time of 1st crime (2004)/45/now 47) charged (Oct. 11, 2022) with sexual assault (suspect held a knife & brutally raped her. The accused then tied & gagged the woman to a table & raped her again. He then whipped the victim on the back with a whip he had brought with him & finally forcibly performed oral sex with the victim. The accused filmed large parts of the events with a video camera he had brought with him). Braunschweig Regional District Court
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - a 14 year old teenager (unknown victim) (on tape: assaulted/hit the naked girl with a whip. Said to have brutally forced the girl to have oral sex. The accused also videotaped this act). Took place between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006 on the Praia da Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal - *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - an elderly woman 70-80 yrs old (unknown victim) a Tour Rep (tied up & raped the victim in her holiday apt. He then hit the victim several times with a whip. The accused is said to have recorded the entire event with a video camera). Took place around the same time (between Dec. 28, 2000 to April 8, 2006) on the Praia de Luz, Algarve coast, Portugal.
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 - 10 year old German girl (Joana E.) (wearing only shoes & otherwise naked. He grabbed the child's wrist & began to perform masturbation movements on his naked penis). On Salema (Zalema) beach, near Praia de Luz, Portugal, April 7, 2007).
Germany/Portugal – *Charged (Oct. 11, 2022) & arrest warrant reinstated 11/18/22 – Ines VP (11 year old Portuguese girl) (pulled down his trousers & underpants & made masturbation movements on his naked penis in order to sexually arouse himself, until the frightened girl ran to her father for help. The suspect was arrested on the spot by the Portuguese police). Exposed himself in playpark, São Bartolomeu de Messines, June 11, 2017).
Trial began on February 16, 2024. (And continued on Feb. 23rd, Mar. 1st & 14th, Apr. 2nd, 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, 24th & 26th).
Trial dates: May 2, 3, 8, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, June 4, 5, 6, 25, 26, July 5, August 5, 15, 16, Sept. 5, 26, 27, Oct. 2, 7, 8, 21 & Oct. 22, 2024. (Expected to last up to 8 months, it was 3 months).

April 26, 2024 Friday, Trial Day 12: Witness: The man (no name given) held the defendant in a playground in 2017 until he was arrested by the police. During a party, two girls between the ages of ten & eleven came to him & reported about a man showing his genitals, said the 52-year-old, who was questioned by the Braunschweig regional court on Friday via video link from Portugal.

It's believed Hammel & Adre Baroz had a sexual relationship for two days. The SOI told investigators Adre Baroz said he was going to kill Hammel.

*CJ Walter Dominguez (27/now 29) – Plead guilty (12/15/22) on the charge of tampering with deceased human remains. As part of the resolution agreement, the remaining two charges accessory to 1st degree murder & 2nd degree kidnapping) will be dismissed. Also included in the resolution agreement, seven other cases pending against Dominguez will be dismissed. Six of those seven cases were filed in Alamosa with the seventh filed in Conejos County. Allegations in those dismissed pending cases include traffic violations, violation of bail bond conditions, the violation of a protection order & the burglary of a dwelling. By pleading guilty to the charge of tampering with deceased human remains, Dominguez will not be a co-defendant in the case that has been filed against Adre Baroz, Julius Baroz & Francisco Ramirez. Sentencing hearing on 2/28/23. Sentenced to 12 years in prison. DOB 12/11/93

Federal Case: charged (12/16/20) & indicted (2/3/21) with 2 counts of possession of a firearm & ammunition by a prohibited person, 2 count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, 2 counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin & 2 counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. (Federal charges). Plead not guilty. Held without bond. Associated with Adre Barzos case. U.S. District Court-District of CO.
Change of plea hearing on 1/27/22. Sentencing on 5/20/22. No resolution yet as of 5/29/22.

5/1/24 Update: Judge Ruth Pickholz sentenced Johnston to 20 years to life in prison on Wednesday following Johnston’s second-degree murder conviction for the 2018 stabbing of her neighbor, Susan Trott. Johnston’s five years of pretrial confinement on Rikers Island will count toward the 20-year minimum she must serve before becoming eligible for parole.

2/26/24 Update: Baroz has plead guilty to all murders & also pleaded guilty to five additional charges of tampering with a deceased human body, a class 3 felony; one count of assault in the first degree, a class 3 felony; one count of kidnapping, a class 3 felony; and one count of assault in the second degree, a class 4 felony. Sentencing is scheduled on 5/3/24 @ 9am in the court of Judge Michael Gonzales.
5/3/24 Update: District Judge Michael Gonzales sentenced Adre Baroz to the DOC where he will serve five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for the murders of Korina Arroyo, Selena Esquibel, Myron Robert Martinez, Xavier Zeven Garcia & Shayla Hammel. Baroz was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences for the murder of 5 people, in a space of just 7 weeks, plus an additional 140 years for kidnapping & tampering with the remains of human bodies, pursuant to a plea negotiation. Given Baroz's age, the sentences, combined, equal roughly 375 years.

5/3/24 Update: District Judge Michael Gonzales sentenced Julius Baroz, older brother of Adre Baroz, was given the maximum sentence of 25 years for pleading guilty to criminal conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Myron Martinez. According to documents from the court obtained by the Valley Courier, Adre Baroz was attempting to murder Myron Martinez & called for Julius to help him. Documents say that Julius held Martinez down while his younger brother slit his throat.

2/26/24 Update: Francisco Ramirez, the 3rd co-defendant in the case, has pleaded guilty to 3 counts of tampering with a deceased human body. The sentencing hearing is scheduled on 5/3/24 @ 2:30pm. in the court of Judge Michael Gonzales.
5/3/24 Update: Francisco Ramirez, was also sentenced Friday to 24 years in prison for three counts of tampering with a dead body. Ramirez assisted Baroz in disposing of and burning the remains of multiple of his victims.

5/3/24 Friday, Trial Day 7: *The hearing (5/2/24) concluded without a ruling, but Merchan indicated that he was likely to find Trump in violation of his gag order once again, appearing most perturbed by his comments on the jury.
*Judge Merchan addressed Trump's comments yesterday at his end-of-day press conference, falsely claiming he's gagged from testifying. "I want to stress to Mr. Trump: You have an absolute right to testify at trial. "The Constitution guarantees that right, he emphasizes.
*State witness: Doug Daus verified some records that were used in the trial. Daus was in Iraq from 2009 to 2011 doing forensic data analysis; he is now a supervising computer forensic analyst in the DA’s office. [He inspected data from the phones of Cohen, including text messages & secret recordings]. Back on stand for cross exam. Georgia Longstreet. She is a paralegal in the Manhattan DA’s office who worked on Trump's case for about a year & a half. Prosecutors admitted dozens of Trump's social media posts, including some tweets from 2016 where he alluded to "made up events that never even happened," and said, "Nobody has more respect for women than me!" Hope Hicks, who worked on Trump's 2016 campaign & in the White House. Defense objected to her serving as a witness. Judge says Hicks will testify.

5/10/24 Update: Marion Superior Court Judge Marie Kern sentenced Lyons to 16 years, with 10 years executed in the Indiana DOC & 6 years suspended. He was remanded into the custody of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office & ordered transferred to the Indiana DOC to begin his sentence.

Daniel Dixon [of Broward County, Fla. has worked at ATT, a telecoms company, as the lead compliance analyst for the last 6 or 7 years. In his role, Dixon helps analyze query records & helps LE with records obtained by ATT. He testifid on phone records from Michael Cohen's primary phone]. Jenny Tomalin [has worked at Verizon for 18 years & has been a senior analyst for executive relations since 2017. She said that her duties include appearing in court to testify about records. She was used to enter evidence from Verizon phone records]. Georgia Longstreet, who has already testified in this trial, has returned to the stand. [Longstreet, a paralegal who had worked on Trump's case for about a year 7 a half, is answering more questions from the prosecution about social media posts related to the case. She continues to authenticate posts & has also testified about text messages]. Jaden Jarmel-Schneider [is a paralegal in the NY DA's office & was assigned to Trump's case. He testified that he helps with setting up subpoenas & analyzing records for the case, including records from Michael Cohen's phone calls, emails & calendar invites].

1/18/24 Update: Morales was offered a plea deal in Superior Court on Thursday morning. The details of the offer were not made public. Morales is next due in court on 3/7/24 to accept or reject the offer. His attorney declined comment outside the courtroom. Morales appeared briefly in court in front of Judge Kevin S. Russo. The judge said the details of the plea offer have been shared with Holloway’s family.

5/14/24 Update: Gray Sr. & Shirley both plead guilty to felony murder Tuesday. The two waived their right to a trial in doing so. Gray Sr. & Shirley’s case has been moving through the Roane & Knox County court systems for years after an investigation into their treatment of their four adopted children was prompted in May of 2020. Tuesday’s hearing was held in Roane County, but applied to both the Roane County & Knox County portions of the investigation. The hearing itself was split in two, first focusing on Michael Gray Sr. First, Roane County Criminal Court Judge Jeff Wicks’ read Gray Sr.’s charges. Those charges included, in addition to the felony murder charges, child abuse, child neglect, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse & theft charges. Prosecutors from Knox & Roane County then gave a statement of facts during Gray Sr.’s hearing, explaining the extent of the couple’s abuse. The reasoning being that, should the case have moved to trial, the state would be able to provide evidence against the Grays. As for Shirley’s portion of the hearing, it went similarly. Judge Wicks read her charges & the prosecution for both counties gave a similar explanation of the investigation, which again outlined the extent of the abuse & how the couple stole money from the state by continuing to claim benefits for the two children who died. Both Gray Sr. & Shirley plead guilty to the felony murder charges in both counties & were sentenced to life in prison without parole. Several of the other charges were dismissed as part of the couple’s plea agreement.

The judge agreed to let the jury consider convicting Sotka of the lesser charge of 1st degree reckless homicide for both victims. A conviction on that charge carries up to 60 years in prison instead of an automatic life sentence. The prosecution said it was strongly opposed when the defense asked to let the jury consider a 2nd degree reckless homicide charge as well, which carries a maximum 25-year sentence.

5/16/24 Thursday, Trial Day 25: *State witness: Retired FBI agent Doug Hart [was originally brought in to help with the search of JJ & Tylee],
*State rested their case.
*Prior argued for a directed verdict – “a ruling from the judge after determining that there is no legally sufficient evidentiary basis for a reasonable jury to reach a different conclusion.” Ingrid Batey argues the jury should determine the weight of the evidence. She lists out the charges & says the state has presented evidence on all aspects of the charges. Judge Boyce is prepared to make a ruling but said he has an issue with part of the indictment. The indictment was amended on Feb. 20, 2024 & says JJ Vallow was killed Sept. 8-9, 2019. Boyce says JJ Vallow was clearly alive on those days. Judge Boyce says there is a filed amended indictment that has the wrong dates for JJ Vallow’s death. He is giving the state two hours to prepare for argument.
*Judge Boyce says on count 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7, State has presented significant evidence, so Prior’s motion is denied. Batey argued that on Count 4 it was a clerical error after the amended. Prior argued that the State can not change count after State rested. Judge Boyce finds there has been sufficient evidence in the elements alleged in count 4. He denies the motion for acquittal. As for the dates, because count 4 was changed without permission, he finds it was an inadvertent mistake. “While these jurors have already heard the information contained in the amended indictment, the court believes the jurors can be fairly & properly instructed.”

5/22/24 Wednesday, Trial Day 11: Jury continues deliberations. A jury has found Dallas Ly guilty of second-degree murder in the 2022 death of his mother, Tien Ly, after one day of deliberations. Following the murder conviction, five jurors suggested Ly serve the minimum 10 years being eligible for parole. Three others suggested 15 years. The judge will make the final decision. Ly will be sentenced to an automatic sentence of life in prison but a hearing will be held 5/31/24 to determine his parole eligibility.

*Judge Merchan addressed the jury: normally you'd hear summations now, but in a case like this, summations will take a while, as will his jury instructions, which he predicts will take an hour. Because we're meeting only today & Thursday, Merchan says there's no way we could do what needs to be done in a cohesive manner, it would be too broken up—best thing would be to adjourn now until Tues. At that time they'll hear summations, then the jury charge, then deliberations. Judge Merchan adjourned the court until next Tuesday, 5/28/24. 3/18/24 Update: It was just a clerical issue that needed to be resolved. Neither Troconis nor her attorneys were there. When Judge Randolph set her sentencing date, he didn't order a pre sentencing investigation report. So this was just for him to do so on the record. Next motions hearing on 4/10/24 @ 9am re defense’s motions for acquittal & a new trial. Sentencing hearing on 5/31/24.
4/10/24 Update: Judge Kevin Randolph says the argument for acquittal is the same as at trial on whether there was sufficient evidence to go to the jury. He ruled then that there was, & motion was denied. Randolph denies the motion for acquittal based on that, but he says he will not make a ruling on whether the evidence met a sufficient standard. That’s up to an appellate court. Randolph says there can be more than one conspiracy in a case. HOWEVER, he does believe the defense has a “colorful claim” regarding two conspiracy to commit evidence tampering charges & double jeopardy. Additionally, Judge Randolph also ruled against granting Troconis a new trial in the case; her attorney, Jon Schoenhorn, had filed motions for both an acquittal & new trial days after his client's conviction last month. Judge Randolph said he would reveal his ruling on whether to vacate one of the conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence charges during his opening statements at Troconis’ sentencing, scheduled on 5/31/24.

3/21/24 Update: Arraignment hearing on contempt charges. Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Moran has provided discovery to Troconis' attorney-specifically the sealed report in question. Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Moran & defense attorney Robert Frost told Judge Alex Hernandez they would meet prior to the next court date to see whether they could negotiate a resolution to the matter prior to Troconis' sentencing. The hearing date is 5/15/24. The judge noted that if Troconis were convicted of contempt, she no longer would get credit toward her eventual sentence for the charges she was convicted of at trial. "Maybe a short date would be appropriate," Hernandez said prior to raising her bail a nominal $100 at Frost's request. No plea was entered.
5/8/24 Update: Troconis’ hearing for a contempt of court charge has been continued until 7/10/24 awaiting plea.

5/22/24 Wednesday, Trial Day 11: Jury continues deliberations. A jury has found Dallas Ly guilty of second-degree murder in the 2022 death of his mother, Tien Ly, after one day of deliberations. Following the murder conviction, five jurors suggested Ly serve the minimum 10 years being eligible for parole. Three others suggested 15 years. The judge will make the final decision. Ly will be sentenced to an automatic sentence of life in prison but a hearing will be held 5/31/24 to determine his parole eligibility.

5/30/24 Thursday, Trial Day 19/Verdict Watch Day 2: *Jurors yesterday afternoon requested to rehear parts of witness testimony, including three portions of David Pecker's testimony & a section of Michael Cohen's testimony. The requests include revisiting Pecker's testimony about a phone call with Trump in which he advised the then-candidate to purchase Playboy model Karen McDougal's story to “take it off the market," his testimony about the life rights discussions on McDougal, and Cohen's testimony about a Trump Tower meeting involving him & Pecker where they discussed how the National Enquirer parent company, American Media Inc., could help Trump's campaign.
*At 9:32 a.m., the judge said he received another note from the jury asking for him to re-read his instructions to the jury from page 7 through page 35. The jury has also requested that they be provided with headphones for the laptop.
*Judge Merchan has read the jury instructions the jurors requested which took about 20 or so minutes. Several of the jurors took diligent notes as he read. Now 2 staff members re-read Pecker’s testimony that the jury requested.
*Jurors began deliberating at 11:15am ET & ended at 4:30pm.
*A jury of his peers found the former president guilty of all 34 felony charges of falsifying business records on Thursday evening, determining that he had done so to unlawfully influence the 2016 election. 5/20/24 Update: Defense attorney Schoenhorn filed a motion on 5/20/24 seeking to have the two conspiracy to commit tampering with physical evidence charges vacated, contending the acts were already covered under the tampering with physical evidence charges. In the motion, Schoenhorn said moving forward with the two charges would constitute "double jeopardy" & violates his client's right to due process. Sentencing hearing on 5/31/24.
5/31/24 Update: Judge Kevin Randolph will go through the PSI report first, then hear the victims' impact statements, then hear from the defendant's loved ones before proceeding with his ruling.
*Judge is hearing Schoenhorn on the motion to vacate the second State believes the Judge has already denied this. The court vacates Count 4. Court says the Conspiracy follows one bad conspiracy. Distinguishes conspiracy to commit murder is different than conspiracy to tamper. Sees no double jeopardy there. State's retains the right to appeal the Court's ruling. Court is making corrections to the sentencing.

The maximum prison time for the charge was up to 20 years. Her other sentences will run concurrently. *Schoenhorn says Troconis will appeal & he's asking for appellate bond while the appeal is pending. Randolph denies the request for an appeal bond. It's not a constitutional right. $2 million bond being requested by Schoenhorn. Court declined appeal bond.

6/1/24 Saturday, Trial Day 34/Penalty Phase (Day 2): *Jury started deliberations @ 8:30am to 10:45am. Verdict reached!
*The jury has found that ALL aggravating factors alleged by the state DO exist. The jury has found that the mitigating factors are not compelling enough, that the death penalty is unjust. The clerk is reading every aggravating factor, and all of them do not find that the death penalty is unjust. Chad Daybell has been given the death penalty by the jury. Chad is still emotionless. Judge Boyce will also sentence Judge Boyce for the insurance fraud charges now.
*Judge Boyce says that he has reviewed the jury’s sentence of death, so he will now sentence Chad officially on the counts in the amended indictment.
Count 1: Criminal Conspiracy to kill Tylee Ryan and Grand Theft by Deception – Chad is officially sentenced to death.
Count 2: First-Degree Murder of Tylee Ryan – Chad is officially sentenced to death.
Count 3: Criminal Conspiracy to kill JJ Vallow and Grand Theft by Deception – Chad is officially sentenced to death.
Count 4: First-Degree Murder of JJ Vallow – Chad is officially sentenced to death.

*Judge Boyce says he has considered the factors of the case in lieu of a pre-sentence investigation report after Chad waived his right to have one done. The state will be making a statement before sentencing for insurance fraud.
*Prosecutor Lindsey Blake says in part - the victim impact statements from yesterday covers everything they would want to say.
*Chad declines to make a statement before the sentencing on insurance fraud cases. Judge Boyce sentences Chad to 15 years in prison for each of the 2 insurance fraud couts. The rationale for the insurance fraud sentences is that they are intertwined with murder charges that ended up with the death penalty.

*Lori Norene Vallow aka Lori Norene Daybell (46/now 50) – Fremont County: Trial started on 4/10/23 & ended 5/10/23. 5/12/23: Guilty of all charges. Sentenced (7/31/23) to 3 consecutive life without parole sentence. 8/31/23 Update: Jim Archibald, Vallow's attorney has filed a Notice of Appeal & a motion to appoint state appellate public defender. New appeal attorney Craig Durham.

Friday, May 31st:
*Trial continues-VERDICTED REACHED! (@ am CET) - Rome, Italy – Li Yinglei “Angie” (Xing Lei Li) (36) (Feb. 10, 2017, vanished from Mediterranean cruise, Rome; still missing) – *Daniel Belling (45/now 50), DH arrested (2/11/17) on suspicion of murder; vanished off Med cruise, plead not guilty. A German citizen working in Ireland, where he has been accused of fraud. Released from prison (4/24/18). Charged (7/16/20) with 1 count of homicide & 1 count of alleged destruction of wife’s body while on cruise.
Trial began on May 10, 2022 & ended 5/31/24.
Faces another year in prison, while pros investigate case; Judge will decide Jan. 26, 2018, postponed. Judge gave him 6 more months of detention. April 24, 2018 was released from prison.

5/31/24 Update: Belling has been sentenced to 26 years in prison by an Italian court for murdering his wife & disposing of her body while they were holidaying on a cruise ship. Daniel Belling, who holds dual German & Irish citizenship, was convicted in absentia in a court in Rome yesterday.
