Unfortunately this seems to be a recovery operation only. Hazel was trying to save her beloved dog :(

“Inspector Andrew Meikleham said: “Police are continuing to carry out searches and conduct enquiries to trace 71-year-old Hazel Nairn, who was last seen in the water of the River Don, near to Monymusk around 3.05pm on Friday, 18 November, 2022.

Searches are being carried out from the area where Hazel was last seen downstream towards Aberdeen.

Due to the deteriorating weather that afternoon, Hazel had been trying to get home safely from the village of Monymusk along with her dog. The body of Hazel’s dog was found near to the river on Wednesday, 23 November.

Local officers and search advisors are being assisted by specialist resources including the Dive and Marine Unit as we continue to search for Hazel.”

This is so sad. A few weeks ago there was a body recovered in the sea In Aberdeen where the owner went out to try to rescue his dog. The dog was spooked by fireworks. It’s very sad, but we all love our pets and people will do anything they can to save them.

This December 10 article is behind a message about "cookies" so I'm not going further, but the part I can read is that a businessman said that "it's important to give the family some hope" and he is continuing the search with his drone. God bless him.

"A north-east businessman has joined the search for missing grandmother Hazel Nairn – with his drone."

Hazel Nairn is missing after being swept away in the River Don in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire in November.

Sadly the body of Hazel's dog was located along with some of her belongings however Hazel has never been found.

We will be heading up in a few weeks to try to help search for Hazel.

Anyone local or visiting the area please be aware when near the River Don

This weekend we are heading up to Monymusk, Aberdeenshire to help the family of Hazel Nairn.

Hazel has been missing since November 2022 when she and her dog were tragically swept into the River Don when it burst it's banks.

Sadly the body of Hazel's dog was recovered a few days later but no sign of Hazel has been found.

The river is 30 miles (50km) to the coast and that along with the amount of time Hazel has been missing makes this one of our most difficult searches to date.

We will be receiving assistance from qualified and experienced divers from Aberdeen Diving Services Ltd and Aberdeen BSAC along with experienced kayakers who regularly use the river.

river search

A new search by volunteers began on Saturday

The river continues for 31 miles from her last known location until it reaches the sea, but the search will focus on areas such as bends where a body might be trapped, he told BBC Scotland News.

"The chance that she is still in the river is quite likely," he added. "It is usually in the first few miles that we find people."

Hazel was just yards from her home when she was swept into a flooded field. It is thought she was then carried into the river.

Beneath the Surface volunteers will be using a boat equipped with sonar scanning equipment and underwater cameras as well as diving gear.

They will be helped by experienced divers from Aberdeen Diving Services Ltd and Aberdeen Sub Aqua Club, as well as kayakers who regularly use the river.

She said: "She was a beautiful lady. Just a friendly, nice person to know. It was just so lovely to see how she treated and loved Georgia, her granddaughter.

"She was so very proud of her family. She was proud of what Anneka, her daughter, had achieved and very proud of Georgia. The little apple of her eye, was Georgia."
Jane added: "There's no closure. It's been really hard. It's been hard for us but incredibly hard and cruel for Anneka and Georgia.

"If we could find something, it would help to get a wee bit of closure. It's just really hard not knowing."

Team leader Phil Jones said it would "difficult" to locate Hazel because of the length of time that had passed since her disappearance.

They will be helped by experienced divers from Aberdeen Diving Services Ltd and Aberdeen Sub Aqua Club, as well as kayakers who regularly use the river.

Supt David Howieson of Police Scotland said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of Hazel Nairn who have been looking for answers since she went missing.

"Hazel remains a missing person and officers keep her family updated when appropriate. Any further information received by police will be acted upon."
