They are bound to wind down the search soon. So worrying for her poor family

The phone wasn't on the bench, it was on the ground nearby.

I don't think that has been confirmed, it was only mentioned by one of NB's friends in an interview in MSM, and that was secondhand from someone she'd spoken to.

Interestingly though it now says at rather than on in the latest timeline update "Nicola’s mobile phone and Willow were found at a bench"

My Opinion Only

Having followed this journey, I personally felt safer on the streets. The woodland is pretty isolated. Even if it wasn’t, from experience you can still get harassed in places like this. In remote corners and even in front of passers by. The bench area I felt scared at as you have a bench where you’re facing away from a gate. I like to sit where you can see people entering and exiting. Anyone can come up behind you there.

However, no witnesses or evidence to suggest a couple was seen in the area. Where the female matched NB’s description.

MOO
The kissing gate on the footpath immediately before the bench is meshed to the ground, presumably so dogs can't escape underneath. It's possible if NB was accosted at that gate then Willow was let through/placed over to the bench side to keep her apart from Nicola. The harness, lead & phone were thrown over the gate.

Specialist police divers continue to scour the riverbed which can be as deep as four metres in parts.

The diving team is today being supervised by PC Mark Shearman who explained that the river at the site isn't tidal because of a weir further downstream. However, given the depth of the river, and the changing water level, searches are being repeated.

Lancs Police Update 2nd Feb

Doesn't say how she got there, but guessing she didn't walk the kids 3.8 mile to school down cold country lanes, in the dark, in January.

I think to be honest they are considering it irrelevant as she was last seen on foot.

It's just brought me to a new thought. The keys should have been on her. So they would have had to get the spare to move the car. If she was walking off and she left the dog and the phone why not the car key too.
I totally agree they didn’t walk from home to school.
I do however think its incredibly relevant to know how she got there and if she was alone on that journey.

Good point regarding the keys. Another item that could have been placed on the bench or would possibly have fallen out of her pocket had she rolled down the bank or been in a struggle.

JMO there is a reason we haven’t been told more about that journey to school.

Video Retraces Nicola Bulleys last known journey

This walking video shows the movement on the map and actual view (albeit only from the angle of the camera) of NB's last known journey
Can someone clarify for me --

Watching this and looking at the map, I'm really confused about the first walker who found Willow and where Willow was actually discovered "running loose". Was she found close to the bench and the location pinned on the map is because the woman went back to the caravan site to make the call?

Willow was off the lead when she was found initially, so was the lead already attached to the bench with no Willow and then the woman simply attached her back to this? Or where was the lead?

I'm pretty sure this has already been answered but please refresh my memory because my brain has melted.

I agree. I was fixated on this myself until the DM mentioned the vehicle at school and then I just dropped it a bit but I still think about it a lot.

In a lot of photos of Willow out and about/on walks she has a very yellow tennis ball - has there been any mention of finding a ball? Would/could it float in the river? It'd be quite spottable in mud/grass/field etc if left behind (if it was even taken on that day)
I have to say I had a sudden emergency with a dog involving a tennis ball and sea some years ago. I would walk up and down the beach that went from sand to stone in different places and one dog was ball obsessed. Did this for months. Then one day, using the usual ball flinger, I flung the tennis ball, it deflected off stones and just shot through the air into the rough and wild sea, closely followed by my dog. The ball was swept out by the tide very fast and the dog kept going (in rough sea). The dog continued to pursue the ball (much to my horror). Eventually the dog decided to turn back to shore but struggled, severely. No way was I going in the water as I knew that usually a dog would survive but a human not. I began working out how to explain it to my family later on. I really thought the dog wasn't going to make it. Then the dog worked out to swim sideways and then diagonally and made it safely back. The sea was seriously rough. I have never since pinged a ball on stones or when the sea is rough. I just wondered with what LaStrega says above if the ball is the clue to what went wrong. JMO MOO

I remember before Libby Squires body was found people surmising that the bends/slow flow rate of the river/depth would have impeded her body/meant that she’d be found before the tributary joined the tidal Humber. Nearly 7 weeks later her body was found at Spurn Point just as Humber becomes the North Sea having been swept through the heavily populated city by the river.

Sadly, misadventure by water seems the most likely explanation to me.
