WA WA - GARY RIDGWAY - Green River Serial Killer

Of course he was being a model prisoner. Gary Ridgeway has always known how to act right. He's a con artist. Given any opportunity, his other Gary will show up again. I wish we'd quit considering what's "best" for someone who has done nothing in life, but cause pain and suffering for others.

Yes, southernmimi, it has always befuddled me as to why some in society feel that we should show empathy and compassion for those who are deplete of human emotions. I'll never forget the words of a mother of one of the many Gary Ridgeway's innocent victims, "I have a hole in my heart that only my beloved daughter could fill"...

<Irony>

Most inmates at ADX SuperMax are going to be there for life or beyond.. Nothing to loose.. I've done a lot of research on GR. Like most SK's he had two selves; good Gary & evil Gary. Stabbed a kid after luring him into the woods at the age of 14; aproximate age that most SKs cross the threshold from fantasy to dark reality, imo. After stabbing the kid, the kid ask GR 'why did you kill me'? GR laughed and replied, 'just to see what it felt like'.. The kid survived and was in the courtroom when GR was sentenced to multiple LWOPs..

June 25, 2015 - Life in a Supermax prison ... inside supermax prison orig_00004310.jpg .... not yet known; Inmates spend 23 hours a day in small cells with no view..

GR is not in the ADX SuperMax.
According to Wiki, he is in the United States Pententiary Florence High.

Apparently, there are three different facilities in Florence - the ADX Florence, The USP Florence High and the Federal Correctional Institute Florence (FCI Florence). The prison he is in includes health services, educational program areas, visitation, laundry, a barbershop, commissary, chapel, Special Housing Unit (SHU), and an exercise area. Inmates work in a Unicor wood chair and desk drawer assembly factory.

Below is the link to the WS serial killer thread on GR.

This is what inmates can do at the California prison for work:

Under current law, all physically able inmates who are not a security risk or have a health exception are required to work, either for UNICOR or at some other prison job.[7][9] Inmates earn from US$0.23 per hour up to a maximum of US$1.15 per hour, and all inmates with court-ordered financial obligations must use at least 50% of this UNICOR income to satisfy those debts.[7]

One report [10] detailed a FPI operation at a California prison in which inmates de-manufactured computer cathode-type monitors. Industry standard practice for this mandates a mechanical crushing machine to minimize danger from flying glass, with an isolated air system to avoid releasing lead, barium, phosphor compounds to the workplace atmosphere. At the FPI facility prisoners smashed the CRTs with hammers. The report noted, "Smashing CRTs with hammers is not a common practice in the private sector, nor could it ever be considered a 'best practice.'"

Somehow I sense GR would get a tremendous of satisfaction smashing computers with a hammer...

I think his MO in the murders he committed was strangulation, but I don't think he would have minded bashing with a hammer too. Ewwwww! He's a creepy idiot weirdo.

Getting more good time or whatever u wanna call it means one thing to us but a different thing to them the more upgrades the closer to other people your gonna become and i can promiss you theres no number of inmates that wouldnt love to have thier names in the paper as the guy that got to ridge way in other words the guy that took him out so before you go hating he is getting these things keep in mind what it means to the inmates ..

Does anyone know about his activities after 1987 to 2001 or if any of the literature on the case touches on it? I recently read the Chasing The Devil book ( which I thought was fabulous ), however it more or less cuts off on Ridgway after the samples were taken. A considerable bulk of his killings were done in that 82-84 period, which is an unprecedented amount of victims for such a short period, but what did he do afterwards? Wikipedia asserts that he was charged for homicides after 84, so did he just restrain himself to slow the pace? In the book we see him soliciting prostitutes not long before caught, meaning that he was at the very least still a regular John during the period of reduced killings.

The picture the book painted I thought alluded to him still withholding information despite the plea, and I don't think there's much room to argue against him being an utter loon that wouldn't reveal a treasure chest of memento's just for the sake of being a douche. I prefer to avoid speculation, but I would honestly be surprised if there's no more bodies to be found in the area that are his, unless there's a source that I'm unaware of which states otherwise.

Ok, I gotta bring this up because I find it weird. Before I say anything, rest assured, I am of the opinion that Ridgway is GUILTY as hell and deserves to be in jail.
However I have seen a fair few people comment that they think he is innocent. Some say he is innocent of all murders, some say he is a murderer but he was not capable of killing 49+ women because he wasn't much to look at / not clever / not charming. Like a few people on Reddit or something we're saying it's possible he killed the women who had his semen on them (duh) but that he didn't kill the other, like, 40 girls. I've seen others commenting that the green river killer is 'still out there' and not Gary Ridgway.

Persnally, I think it's a bit nuts to suggest that he isn't guilty. Is there anything to back up these random rumour floating around or are they loony speculation?

Anyone who thinks he wasn't charming or handsome enough clearly doesn't understand how prostitution works... There have been women who have survived attacks from the Green River Killer who have identified Gary Ridgway as the man responsible. I think some people just want a conspiracy theory

He admitted to murdering a girl who had died less than two years before he was arrested. But iirc, his killings slowed down significantly after he married his third wife. Green River Running Red was also a pretty fabulous book, Ann Rule went into some details about why he said he had stopped killing for a while and all that jazz

A composite has been released of an unidentified victim of Gary Ridgeway. Hoping we can help identify her. http://q13fox.com/2016/12/06/author...l-help-identify-victim-of-green-river-killer/

Thanks for posting this, Schwelo68!

Ridgway admitted killing the girl, estimated to be between 14 and 18, but said he didn’t know who she was.

The Virginia-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children arranged chemical isotope testing on the Jane Doe’s teeth and bones samples through the Smithsonian. The results show she may have spent time in Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming or several portions of southern Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Another obstacle for investigators is that there’s no seamless connection between the DNA data bases of Canada and the U.S., said Taylor.

“What we really need is for someone from Canada to call it in and we can do a hand search,” she said.
A Canadian connection could be the result of large numbers of teens and young women travelling from the Vancouver area to Seattle and Portland to work as prostitutes, said Taylor.

Vanished: Search for five women missing in Tacoma includes possibility of a serial killer

This is why that plea deal is coming in handy!

Considering there's a very real possibility there are still FORTY MORE BODIES of victims that haven't been found...it's really a good idea to keep the only guy who knows where the bodies are alive.

Just something to think about in regards to suggesting that he be "accidentally" released into general population.

Here's a list of victims Ridgway confessed to murdering, as well as potential victims that fit his MO and two that he is suspected of murdering but has denied killing. If anyone has full DOBs for these women, please provide them. The victims deserve respect.

I'd like to suggest a subforum of Serial Killers for Gary Ridgway. The sheer number of victims - 52 known, 71 confessed, 90+ believed - means that keeping discussion of his victims in the single thread is unmanageable.
