This, plus it's Milwaukee. Wisconsin has a very big drinking culture and while I've been carded here plenty of times in my life (though much less so now that I'm in my 40s, LOL) there are definitely places where they won't ask or will forget to ask, or -- perhaps as it was in this case -- someone else might vouch for a person and then they won't be carded.
I remember being so upset that on my 21st birthday, I went out to a fancy dinner with my now-husband and when I ordered a drink the guy didn't even card me at first, hahaha.

I did note after my response that several people reiterated it was a restaurant *with* a bar, but I think it still stands that this kind of thing can happen at these types of locations, as well - and, again, probably more than we know, intentional or not. Again, just MOO and MOE.

I will be 40 this year and I avoid buying alcohol as much as possible so no one will ruin my delusion that I "look good for my age." :p Just kidding!

Yes, this, and then add in that Anderson was a former employee of Twisted Fisherman. He sat at the bar with Sade, having dinner, drinks, and picking up his W2 form, before they continued on to Duke's on Water. He had been a bartender at various spots downtown, including the Rave and Victor's Nightclub. I doubt anyone would have looked twice at who his companion was when he ordered drinks.

The legal drinking age in Wisconsin is 21. Sometimes that feels theoretical, because so much under-age drinking happens here. One loophole in Wisconsin's law, though, is that people aged 18 to 20 can legally drink if they are in the company of a parent, spouse, or legal guardian.

(I wonder which one of those he might have appeared to be.)

Honestly, I think it doesn't even occur to late-stage teenagers entering bars here that they might be carded. I think they're much more aware of that possibility when trying to go into a liquor store.

I've theorized on this thread that Anderson's case has similarities to the Stephanie Casberg murder case; both were dismembered, both had blankets spread out near where the body parts were disposed of, both went to Riverside High School, both lived in the Riverwest area and both disappeared after going to a restaurant.

The Casberg case happened in 1969, so obviously Anderson wasn't responsible for that one, but he may have copycatted Casberg's murder after reading up on it. It would be interesting to see what kind of literature was found in his upstairs apartment or what he looked at on his computer. The blood found at his apartment wasn't Sade Robinson's, so whose was it?

There's also another Riverside High School girl who lived in the Riverwest area missing in the area since 2022.

Another 19 year old college girl went missing down in Tempe, AZ and was found dead in 2013. The Sunday, June 30, 2013 issue of the Columbia Daily Tribune, Columbria, MO (Source: Newspapers.com) reports Adrienne Salinas went missing near her home. Maxwell Anderson lived there in sometime between 2013 and 2018 just south of where she disappeared. (Source: truepeoplesearch.com) link on list below)

There's always a possibility there might be a connection. IMO, these cases may all be linked in one way or another.

I read online too that in Wisconsin a person under the age of 21 may consume alcohol legally if they are in the company of a parent, spouse or legal guardian. Even though MA didn’t match any of these criteria for SR I wonder if because of his age and previous employment or familiarity with places the bars/restaurants possibly just let it slide or were rather lax?

This "exception to the law" is just so interesting to me for some reason - but my antiquated perspective on alcohol (I didn't have any interest in drinking until I turned 21) may be skewing things a bit... I really have so many questions, but they don't particularly apply to poor Sade's situation so forgive my digression. I tend to think you are correct that maybe a blind (or at least fuzzy) eye was turned for exactly the reasons you stated.

I think I agree with you.

The two domestic violence incidents on his criminal record involved acts of agression toward family members. At the very least, IMO, it appears that Anderson has serious anger issues that seem to have been festering and increasing in intensity over the years. They seem to finally have erupted catastrophically on the night of April 1st, at the expense of Sade Robinson's young life.
