MILWAUKEE (AP) — Prosecutors have accused a suburban Milwaukee woman of killing her friend by poisoning her with eyedrops.

Online court records show that 37-year-old Jessy Kurczewski was charged Friday with homicide and two counts of felony theft.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday that a criminal complaint shows the case began in 2018 when Kurczewski called police to her friend’s Pewaukee home, saying her friend wasn’t breathing. The complaint doesn’t name the friend.

A deputy found the woman in a recliner with crushed medication on her chest. Investigators initially thought she had overdosed. Kurczewski said there was a possibility her friend was suicidal.

Toxicology tests showed the woman had a fatal dose of tetrahydrozoline, the main ingredient in eyedrops, in her system. When investigators told Kurczewski tetrahydrozoline killed her friend and the scene was staged to look like a suicide, Kurczewski said it was what her friend wanted and she must have staged her own suicide.

The Wisconsin woman accused of murdering her friend by poisoning her with eye drops and defrauding her of over $300,000 appeared in court Friday. Jessy Kurczewski allegedly dumped six bottles of Visine into Lynn Hernan’s water bottle and tried to stage her death as an overdose. The 37-year-old’s murder trial is scheduled to start on October 23 and will be overseen by Judge Jennifer Dorow, who oversaw the Waukesha parade massacre trial of Darrell Brooks.

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Franklin woman accused of poisoning a friend with eye drops will soon stand trial for murder.

Jessy Kurczewski is facing life in prison for allegedly killing a friend with eye drops and staging it to look like a suicide in 2018.

The victim, a Pewaukee woman not named in the criminal complaint, had a fatal dose of tetrahydrozoline in her blood, the main ingredient in eye drops.

The now 39-year-old Kurczewski is also charged with two counts of theft for allegedly stealing over $290,000 from the victim, with $130,000 believed to have been transferred fraudulently by check from the victim to Kurczewski. Court records indicate investigators believe the defendant used some of that money to fuel a gambling addiction.

[...] "Kurczewski had a motive, the method and the opportunity to intentionally cause the death" of Hernan, the criminal complaint states.

Wowza. Who knew eyedrops could be deadly?

I'm looking forward to this case because IME Wisconsin has some awesome forensic capabilities. How they figured out the staging and that it was a murder is gonna be interesting.

Eyedrops? Who thinks of this stuff? It will also be interesting to hear about internet searches. Clearly, this poor lady was taken advantage of by the alleged killer. I am getting familiar with the case but sounds as if Ms. Hernan didn't have any family nearby. moo
Turns out, eyedrops have become a chic way to off your partner:

rsbm

I saw Wedding Crashers and forgot all about the eye drops scene. Funny movie, not so much in real life.

The lady in 2nd video still can't fully admit what she did. wow!

moo
That woman in the second video also "accidentally" shot her husband in the back with a crossbow 2 years earlier.

I want to hear the prosecution forensic witnesses on this one. Maybe they'll use some of the same ones as in the Halderson trial. Very impressive.
My 1st eye drop case... I'm thinking the prosecution's forensic expert(s) will provide enough evidence which will seal the deal for a conviction. Not to get too ahead or confident but this case screams guilt. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law!

So very sad for Ms. Hernan who I suspect loved and trusted JK.

Was Ms. Hernan still actively operating the salon shop and working as a cosmetologist at the time of her death? Wasn't able to locate much info about her.

Sounds like a fascinating case and thank you so much for the heads up.

All speculation.
