we have a white woman with an estimated age range of 37-47, around 5'0" tall, found in May 2001, with a possible 3 year post-mortem interval. they do have DNA for the UID.

taking your suggestions one at a time, the first one, 1698DFFL, is Sherri Vanessa Holland, last seen in FL on Aug 16, 1996. she was between 5'2" and 5'5". circumstances surrounding her disappearance make it appear she was the victim of a crime and quite probably murdered within days of her disappearance. LE figures she was abducted somewhere between Flagler Beach FL and Atlanta GA. I could not find Sherri in Namus so there is no indication whether there are any DNA samples on file.

so it is possible the UID is Sherri but it is not likely that someone drove all the way from FL or GA to dump a body in WV.

I actually really like this match. Here is why: Our UID is estimated to have remains left for approximately 3 yrs...1998, but considering the remains were so skeletal...would another two years make a difference? We've seen this problem before in UID and missing person cases.

Sherri's face has a resemblance to the reconstruction, I think.

Her car broke down alongside the road in Georgia. She was most likely abducted by someone offering roadside assistance. Could this have been a trucker? If so, why would WV be an unreasonable dumping location?

I live in WV. And I do not mean this with disrespect...but LE really doesn't have the training or funding to know what to do with crime scenes in comparison to larger cities. Plus...WV is very remote, has little crime, and again, has poorly funded LE. Perfect dump site.

The height, again, can be off with these cases when skeletal remains are found.

I would like to know if Sherri had a fractured left elbow, good dental work, and was a smoker.

I'd also like to know how they can forensically tell by skeletal remains that a person was a smoker and possibly bore a child. With no tissue or organs remaining...how can they know this? Just curious.

Input?

A smoker will have tar and nicotine stains between the teeth.

A woman who has given birth will have pitting and a distinctive surface texture in certain locations on the pelvis.

interestingly enough, I rarely see the issue of tobacco stained teeth in the dental section of the UID. while it would not always include or exclude, it is useful information.

Does anyone agree that Sherri could be a match? I've tried submitting twice, no response.

Charley Project has many more details about Vanessa's associations. therein it is suggested she may have run off and staged her own disappearance. if that is the case that she left voluntarily at least at beginning, she could have gone anywhere in the interim. the profile also shows a variety of smiling pictures, none of which show her bottom teeth:

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/h/holland_sherri.html

According to the profile from the WV State Police, there is a picture of the UID's teeth and the chip on the lower tooth was present during her life:

there is no word on whether Sherri had ever given birth. judging by the description of her lifestyle at the Charley Project, I doubt she was raising a child, but that does not mean she never gave birth.

in my opinion, the UID is probably not Sherri, but this is just my own opinion. I have received responses probably only 25% of the time that I have submitted anything so don't take it personally. Carl called in a person on a case where I had submitted an email and only after he called did it appear that anyone looked at it. I have never called one in, but from what I can gather, the phone works best but be prepared for questions such as who you are, what interest you have in the case, and why you think it is a match.

good luck!

I submitted this possible match to the county handling Sherri's case through email. This time I did a thorough explanation of why I thought they could be a match. I also brought attention to the unknown- was she a smoker? had she bore a child? chip on tooth? If these things match Sherri, surely they'll take a look. I'll follow up with a phone call if I don't hear back within a week.

I can't explain why I feel so strongly about this one, I just do. I won't be able to let it go until they tell me definitely I'm way off base...

olive, forgive me I have not read the entire thread..... did you also submit to the ME handing this case? I try to contact the ME first..

Also, if a phone number exists I would follow up with a call to make sure your possible match was received.

hth and good luck with the possible match!

I'm sorry Cubby, but I'm not sure what ME or hth stands for? I tried submitting the match to the person handling the UID person's case, and did not receive a response. So now I've tried the county handling Sherri's case. I will try the phone call.

Here's a new 1995 missing person case from Gaston County NC that was added today in NamUs.

* Her height matches spot-on.
* Her age is within range.
* The location is reasonable (i.e., about 265 miles connected mostly by a single highway).
* There is a six year lag (i.e., Mar'95 to May'01).
* Her photo (above on the left) gives a very slight view of her lower teeth. It's not clear enough to see whether her #25 (i.e., the lower right front tooth) is chipped, but it might be.
* Her chin isn't as pointy and her jawline doesn't seem as squared, but I don't think I'd rule-out based on that.

All in all - not a bad possible. Not real strong, but worth mention.

last July Masnitram stated there were two rule outs.

they have been working on this case and there are now 14 officially on the list:

Ida Anderson 1937 Michigan
Sharon Apgar 1966 Kentucky
Darcy Brown 1943 Ohio
Mary Geneva Friend 1954 West Virginia
Brenda Howell 1943 California
Sheila Lyon 1962 Maryland
Sharon Evelyn Medlin 1948 South Carolina
Delores Melton 1955 North Carolina
Donnis Redman 1943 California
Janeth Ann Rowe 1947 Virginia
Beverly Sharpman 1930 Pennsylvania
Karen Smith 1965 Indiana
KATRINA SWEANEY 1972 Oregon
Karen Tompkins 1950 California

I know she was in Olive's list up-thread but I really like Tonia Aldrich, 2043DFOH, for this Doe. I think the facial structure is very close. Unfortunately, I don't see anything about dentals other than it is entered at NAMUS.

Sorry, I have no idea how to post photos at all, let alone a side by side.

I see a similarity between the reconstruction and the picture to the right especially around the nose and mouth area. But there is no mention of Tania having had a child and the chipped tooth.

I did some researching at Ancestry.com about Tonia Aldrich. despite my misgivings that she vanished under circumstances suggesting foul play in Elyria, OH and somehow wound up dead in WV, I can tell you this much about Tonia.

she was married twice from what I can see. first to a man D.C. then to her second husband L.A. according to the record at ancestry, she did have a minor child at the time of her first divorce in Dec 1990. the second divorce listed zero minor children (which I assume means of that marriage)

so while it does not answer any questions about her teeth, it appears as though she had given birth to one child in her life.

Do you think this should be submitted? I have never done anything like that, I'm more of a thinker than a talker.
