CASPER, Wyo. — A 33-year-old Goshen County woman has been missing since late August, according to state authorities.

Azia Diane Saldana was last seen Aug. 24., the Wyoming DCI site for missing persons says.

A social media post by Azia’s mother indicates last contact was Aug. 26, when Azia went to the truck stop in Torrington to play slots. She says she got a text that evening saying she would be home, but Azia never returned.

“Azia is known to go missing for long periods of time,” the DCI post reads. “She is known to frequent Scottsbluff Nebraska, Brighton Colorado and Denver Colorado. She has multiple piercings and tattoos.”

This is like the perfect storm of the most frustrating disappearance factors - a truck stop (where lots of people are always coming and going, likely no one really paying attention to anyone else) plus a history of disappearing plus the fact that we're only being told now, nearly two months later. Azia could literally be anywhere with anyone.

That's according to a post on the Torrington Police Department Facebook page. The post says the probe into the disappearance of 33-year-old Azia Saldana has turned up some useful information over the past few days, but investigators still don't have firm evidence on her location, status, or well-being. The department is working with other agencies on the case.

The post says the longer she is missing, the greater the concern is for her safety. A previous post by the Torrington PD said that as of a few days ago police had not seen any evidence that there was criminal intent involved in her disappearance. At that time police were saying they had reason to believe she might be in the Denver area. the latest post doesn't say whether that is still the case.

Lisa Castro and her husband of Torrington last reportedly saw their only child on August 26, 2023 when she left their home on foot to play CowboySkills games at the Western Travel Terminal located on east highway 26 in Torrington.

“There has been a lot of information stating it is believed that Azia went to Colorado but there has been no proof or confirmed sightings of her there,” Private Investigator, Stacy Koester said. “At this time, there hasn’t been one confirmed sightings, just rumors and speculation.”

“We have sent down flyers with contact information and are looking at preparing a feet-on-the-ground search. Any persons interested in assisting with this can reach out to me at (307) 299-6710. It needs to be known that anyone joining the search needs to be clean as well as we will not allow people on drugs to help us search,” Koester said.

“She’s never told us where she goes, and she always comes back with Dylan,” Castro said. “Miraculously, she appears with Dylan, disappears with Dylan and reappears with Dylan. That’s why I can’t believe she hasn’t contacted him.“

Azia Diane Saldana has been missing from her Torrington home since Aug. 26.

“She’s my only child,” Lisa Saldana told Cowboy State Daily. “She’s extremely loved and extremely missed. She has a huge, supportive family that are all praying for her to come home.”

“Based on the information we have in the investigation, we believe Azia is or has been in the Denver area,” Torrington Police Chief Matt Johnson told Cowboy State Daily. “We are collecting all the information we can to locate her and confirm her wellbeing, and (are collaborating) with other agencies to get that accomplished.”

When asked about the last time anyone had heard from Azia Saldana, Johnson said providing that information could potentially “damage the investigation.” He said they do not have any evidence that she’s the victim of a crime, but are “very concerned” about her safety.

Koester said Road Warriors for the Missing is working on a segment on Azia Saldana and the investigation will be featured on NewsNation soon. Meanwhile, she and the RWM team are doing everything they can to assist in the search by sharing her photos and information on social media.

“No family should ever have to go to bed wondering where their person is,” she said.

The Torrington Police Department confirmed Azia Saldana contacted her family Monday. Soon after, members of the investigating team also wereable to exchange text messages with the same contact number used to call Lisa Saldana.

“We reasonably believed that we were communicating with Azia,” Torrington Police Chief Matt Johnson told Cowboy State Daily.

Johnson said Azia didn’t disclose where she was or who she was with any of their exchanges. But there was one point she was very clear about.

“She made a very clear statement that she did not wish to be listed as ‘missing,’ and her missing person status was not beneficial to her,” he said. “She also made it clear to us that she did not require assistance at this time.”

Following these requests, Azia Saldana is no longer considered a missing person by the Torrington Police Department. There are reasons to be concerned about her unverified status, but Johnson said they are doing due diligence based on the messages received.

“We’re working to maintain a balance between addressing potential risks to (Azia’s) safety, honoring her requests and respecting her right to privacy as an adult,” he said.

Noting that the article stated that Azia both called her mother and texted LE saying that she was safe and not missing.

On Monday, the Torrington Police Department posted a statement on its Facebook page that police and Saldana’s family had contact with her via the same phone number, and she is no longer considered missing.

Torrington Police Chief Matt Johnson told the Wyoming Truth Tuesday that the department exchanged text messages with Saldana, in which she indicated she was fine and declined any help from law enforcement.

After exchanging text messages with Saldana, police tried to call her repeatedly, but she did not answer the phone, Johnson said.

Saldana was booked into the Denver County Downtown Detention Center on Thursday on suspicion of felony possession and distribution of fentanyl, as well as an additional Wyoming warrant for earlier drug offenses.

Much better than foul play! I hope the best for her and her family.
