The court heard that evidence will include training courses the officers attended to assess whether they ‘should have known the content of the material they were exchanging was grossly offensive’.

Met Police officers deny sharing racist messages with Wayne Couzens

Sarah Everard's killer Wayne Couzens has been charged with four counts of indecent exposure.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between January and February 2021, when Couzens was a serving Metropolitan Police officer.

The alleged offences predate the murder of Ms Everard, who was killed in March 2021, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 13 April.

A cynical person might wonder why the
@CPSUK
have finally charged Wayne Couzens with flashing, meaning that proceedings are active and press reporting is limited, just before
@policeconduct
releases its report into why said flashing wasn't acted on earlier by the Met. Hmmm

Sarah Everard's killer, Wayne Couzens, has chosen a trial in front of a jury to face four charges of indecent exposure.

[...]

Couzens spoke to confirm his name and date of birth and gave no indication of pleas to any of the charges.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring said the case was suitable for trial at the magistrates' court but when asked by the legal advisor where he wanted the case to be heard, Couzens said: "My legal team have advised me at the Crown Court."

Mr Goldspring sent the case to the Old Bailey, where Couzens will next appear on May 11.

Sturman [for Couzens] told the court of appeal: “Mr Couzens accepts that his crimes are abhorrent and nothing I say in any way is intended to minimise them or to minimise the impact of these crimes on Sarah Everard’s family and huge circle of friends.”

He told the court that it was accepted that Couzens deserved “decades in jail” but argued a whole-life term was excessive. Sturman added: “The combination of his remorse and his guilty pleas … should balance out that aggravating factor which clearly exists, of him being a police officer, albeit off-duty in half uniform.”

The barrister told the court that Couzens was unique out of the 64 people currently serving whole-life orders. He said in written submissions: “Whilst this may well be considered by the public and the court to be a case of equal seriousness to a political, religious, or ideological murder, it is not such an offence, not does it fall into any other category listed in the schedule.”

Sturman later argued that police officers are not unique in being able to detain people, giving an example of a teacher able to detain vulnerable pupils.

He concluded: “A lot of very unique and very horrible cases come before the court … but in our respectful submission, the court should think long and hard and step back from a whole-life order in this case.”

The hearing of the five sentence reviews finished on Wednesday and a decision will be given in writing at a later date.

Wayne Couzens deserves ‘decades in jail’ not whole-life order, court hears

"Three Met Police officers exchanged vile texts with Sarah Everard's cop killer that joked about sexually assaulting domestic violence victims and described the rape of a 15-year-old girl as a 'struggle snuggle', court hears."

I wish OC strength, wisdom, and security as she moves on to raise her children that will no doubt be forever tortured by their father's actions. They didn't deserve this. And WC didn't deserve a family.

His Ukrainian wife, Olena, decided to visit him in prison the day after he failed to get a reduction in his whole-life sentence.
