Another Bournemouth one. As a Bournemouth resident it saddens me how many serious murders have taken place here over the past 18 months.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death on a Bournemouth beach.

The 34-year-old woman died at the scene and another woman, age 38, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The double stabbing happened on Durley Chine Beach shortly before midnight on Friday.

Police have closed the popular beach while they investigate.

My guess is that the 17 year old has a mother or father that could be friends with the victims. If not then maybe a different connection.

At 11.42pm on Friday 24 May 2024, Dorset Police received a report that two people had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach. Very sadly, a 34-year-old woman from Poole was pronounced dead at the scene. A 38-year-old woman from Poole was taken to hospital with serious injuries where she continues to receive treatment. A 17-year-old boy from the Lancashire area has been arrested and remains in custody at this time.

Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Since we received the report of this tragic incident where a woman has lost her life and another woman has been seriously injured, our detectives – assisted by many colleagues around the organisation – have worked tirelessly to progress the investigation. Our thoughts remain with family and friends of the victims who are being supported by specialist officers during this incredibly difficult time.

“We recognise the impact this incident has on our communities and are aware of speculation already appearing online about the possible circumstances. It is important to state that our investigation is still in the very early stages and it is unhelpful to speculate as to why this tragedy has happened, especially as an arrest has been made. Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.

“I want to reassure our communities in Dorset as well as the many people who choose to visit our county during the bank holiday weekend that we are exploring all available lines of enquiry to establish the motives for this horrendous incident.

“We understand the concern that the public will have as a result of this incident. There will be an enhanced police presence in the area and we are also working closely with our partner agencies and community groups to address this. If you are in the area and have concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to an officer.

“I would like to use this opportunity to renew my appeal for anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to please contact us. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Durley Chine beach between 10pm on Friday 24 May 2024 and midnight and who saw anything unusual. Information can be uploaded through our dedicated Major Incident Public Portal for this case.”

Update from Dorset police
 
People from Lancashire don't tend to do Bournemouth for holidays either as its a 6/7 hour drive in reality
, we tend to be predominantly Birmingham/Londoners who come to us for a holiday.

A cross country move for other reasons such as being in care/being caught up in county lines etc isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Something I've found interesting is that usually Facebook is swarming with victims names within local groups quite quickly but nothing at all. Obviously wouldn't share without an official release but the absence of them unofficially is interesting!

Our thoughts remain with them.

“We are now in a position to issue CCTV images of the suspect. I would urge anyone who was in the area of Durley Chine beach during the night from Friday 24 May to Saturday 25 May 2024 and may have seen the person pictured or anything unusual to please come forward.

“Similarly, anyone who was in the area of Durley Roundabout, West Cliff Gardens, Durley Gardens or West Cliff Drive during that night might have vital clues that could help us. Did you see anyone acting strangely, mainly between 10pm and midnight? Do you have dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist the enquiry?

“Anyone who thinks they recognise the person in the CCTV images should contact police.

“We are of course acutely aware of the concerns this incident will have created and indeed continues to create. The impact on our communities and the protection of our public remains at the forefront of our minds.

“The enhanced police presence in the area will remain as long as is necessary and if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to an officer.”

A 17-year-old boy from the Lancashire area, who was arrested on suspicion of murder currently remains in custody.

We used to go when I was 17/18/19 before it really took off in popularity and it was, and still is, very much that 17-21 age range.

It's a bit far out from the beach though, it's held by the airport.

If she was someone who offered lifts, another very common thing with kids 16-21 is spending the evenings drinking on the beach. Could have asked her for a lift from there to the festival

The images of a suspect show him wearing dark clothing with his hood pulled over his head.

Releasing CCTV of a suspect who has already been arrested is a rare step for a police force to take.
