A man will face court today charged with murder following an investigation into the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl.

Strike Force Buena was established by Blue Mountains Police Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, to investigate the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl after she was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday (14 January 2022).

Following extensive investigations, officers attached to the strike force yesterday (Tuesday 18 January 2022), conducted a search in the vicinity of the Colo River.

With the assistance of the Police Divers, Hawkesbury Police Area Command, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Operational Support Group (OSG) and Police Rescue Squad, the body of a child was located in a barrel. The body is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers.

As part of ongoing investigations, detectives attached to Strike Force Buena attended a unit in Riley Street, Surry Hills about 8.30pm last night (Tuesday 18 January 2022), and arrested a 31-year-old man.

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with murder.

The man was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Wednesday 19 January 2022).

Investigations under Strike Force Buena are continuing.

Police have confirmed human remains found last night were "consistent" with those of a nine-year-old girl who went missing in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

A man was charged with the murder of the girl last night.

The girl was reported missing from Mt Wilson on Friday, January 14.

As an arrest has been made in this matter, under Australian law this case is now under sub judice throughout the entire judicial process until such time as the time to appeal has passed or an appeal is completed.

I work as a professional in the field of domestic violence, drug abuse, mental health, child protection etc and whilst I understand the harsh critic on mum- I honestly feel sick for her and the grandparents.
I do not believe KM had an inkling at all of what was to come.
Drug addiction and past tragedies aside- I think she came out on the other side with little self confidence- hence she met a man who also had a criminal record but would have sold himself as just a good guy who made mistakes- he comes from wealth so she would've felt like this was her chance- he would've talked a good story- she's forgiving in any discrepancy as she wants that for herself so badly- and all the time not picking up on all the red flags that people don't pick up on- even without a drug addiction or history like that!

In my opinion JS has been a victim at some stage (maybe as a child?) based on his mothers 'tortured life' comment- but he stops being a victim the minute he perpetrates.

IMO the evidence and history shows he is a controlling, violent person.

IMO this is someone who has grown up privileged and enabled and has slowly managed to become an alleged perp.

The mothers interactions with him make that CLEAR

Thanks for your insight, Wellsy. I've always felt that KM was seriously negligent but probably not culpable for her daughter's murder.

It's hard to understand how she could let her daughter go off alone with such an obviously untrustworthy man, let alone leave a reportedly ill daughter in the hands of an auctioneer to spend time sleeping with, and doing drugs with, her fiance. Any decent person would find this behaviour baffling and appalling. But the drugs, and KM's faith in a man she thought would be her daughter's stepfather, do go some way to explaining her negligence, even if it doesn't excuse it.

Ultimately, no matter how negligent KS was, the person to blame for the murder is the murderer. The shooting of a child at point-blank range isn't just something that happens to children when their mothers aren't careful.

I think if the police were going to prosecute KM for negligence they would have done so by now. They likely feel that the loss of her daughter is greater than any penalty they could impose.

Yes, and the police may also believe that convicting and incarcerating him is more important than arresting her. IMO
And they can't really do both.

On 14 January Annemie puzzles with police about the identity of the auction agent with whom Charlise was, according to Justin, left throughout 12 January, and whether or not this story "adds up". Now she remembers hearing Charlise's voice on the phone in the background in the early evening of 12 January. If she heard Charlise in the evening then the auction agent had nothing to do with it. It doesn't make any sense that she didn't make that point at once.
