WilCo deputies involved in Javier Ambler's death sue for access to his autopsy

Two deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office that were involved in the in-custody death of Javier Ambler last year are now suing for access to the Travis County Medical Examiner's report on Ambler.

The lawsuit, filed by Deputies Zach Camden and Jason Johnson, is asking the medical examiner's office for a complete copy of Ambler's autopsy report.

Sheriff Robert Chody has been indicted in connection to the incident for allegedly destroying video evidence connected to Ambler's death. Jason Nassour, the attorney for WilCo, is also facing the same charge.

The lawsuit alleges that media reports implied that Camden and Johnson "did something wrong during their encounter" with Ambler, and says they were found to not have violated any policies of the sheriff's office and have not, as of this time, been charged with any crime.

The family of Javier Ambler II, a Black man who died during an arrest last year, filed a federal suit against Williamson County, Texas, for wrongful death, according to the 29-page complaint.

Although they are named in the complaint, CNN is not naming the two officers involved because they have not been charged with any crimes.

The complaint also alleges the conditions of Ambler's arrest violated the Americans with Disabilities Act because of Ambler's weight and his heart condition.

Texas police brutality: "Javier Ambler Law" would ban 'Live PD' type reality show deals

A Williamson County grand jury indicted Sheriff Robert Chody in September on an evidence tampering charge in the destruction of the “Live PD” video of Ambler’s arrest, and voters ousted him from office in November.

A grand jury in Travis County, where the pursuit ended, also is considering evidence tampering charges against Chody and others, including the company that produced the show, and will evaluate early next year whether to indict Johnson and Camden for excessive force.
