Looks like the "it's unconstitutional" Dershowitz or Turley could be getting themselves more cha-ching from Trump.

I find it fascinating yet extremely frightening how constitutional scholars and SCOTUS justices come to their opposing conclusions on what is constitutional or unconstitutional and Americans have to live with their decisions, until they don't.
Some of the liberal legal minds don’t agree with this mess of a trial.

CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig skewered Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a new column reacting to Donald Trump’s conviction on Thursday, calling the case that led to it an “ill-conceived, unjustified mess.
(…)
“In these key respects, the charges against Trump aren’t just unusual. They’re bespoke, seemingly crafted individually for the former president and nobody else,” wrote Honig. “The Manhattan DA’s employees reportedly have called this the ‘Zombie Case’ because of various legal infirmities, including its bizarre charging mechanism. But it’s better characterized as the Frankenstein Case, cobbled together with ill-fitting parts into an ugly, awkward, but more-or-less functioning contraption that just might ultimately turn on its creator.”

Elie Honig is neither a constitutional scholar or a SCOTUS justice.

I have mixed emotions. I want him to have to pay for his crimes, but I fear the consequences to our nation should he be imprisoned, due to the violence of some of his supporters.

To me, that's exactly why he should be treated like any other person convicted of the crimes he was accused of. If that's a prison sentence, so be it. If we treat convicts differently because we cower to violent supporters, then we're legalizing the mob. He should be imprisoned (if appropriate) and so should any of his supporters who break the law in defense of him. Fear of their response shouldn't dictate punishment. MOO.

FDT could be going to Rikers.

In the event that Trump is sentenced to jail time, the location would depend on the duration of his sentence.

If Trump faces more than one year in jail, New York law requires that his sentence be served in a New York penal facility. But if his sentence is shorter than a year, it would be served in a New York City correctional facility, such as Rikers Island.

I don’t envy Judge Merchan having to figure out a fair sentence. As unsatisfying as it might be to those who want to see Trump incarcerated, I’m inclined to favor a sentence that provides the least amount of “martyrdom” for him to use to stir up his followers, but will still be unpleasant for Trump. Whatever Merchan does will be criticized of course.

This is only the first salvo from President Biden where he will use this conviction as a campaign tool. JMO.
If so, it won't be very effective. Trump reports, (if you give him any credibility), that he has had record breaking donations since the conviction. If the conviction is going to be used as a campaign tool, it might not be by Biden.

I think the charges, trial and verdict are right.

Lawless and disorderly: Republicans line up behind Trump after conviction

Trump and his Republican allies sow distrust in US judicial system as analysts warn backlash could tear at social fabric in already volatile election year

A shameful day in American history. A sham show trial. A kangaroo court. A total witch-hunt. Worthy of a banana republic.

These were the reactions from senior elected Republicans, who once claimed the mantle of the party of law and order, to the news that Donald Trump had become the first former US president convicted of a crime.

It soon became clear that one of America’s two major political parties was determined to undermine faith in the US judicial system with expressions of rage and demands for revenge, creating an alternative view of the US in which Joe Biden is a clear and present danger to US democracy.

Experts warned that by sowing distrust in institutions and the rule of law Trump, his supporters and his Republican allies were creating a political tinderbox ahead of November’s presidential election. In the coming months – especially as Trump faces sentencing in June – that sense of dread and fear of political unrest is likely to only increase dramatically.

[…]

Aside from Trump claiming that he actually won the 2020 election, and despite there being 62 lawsuits challenging the election results nearly all of which were dismissed outright, one of the reasons that many well-intended people still believe that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump is the movie "2000 Mules". The production company that made the well-debunked film has now apologized and pulled it after losing a defamation lawsuit. “We have removed the film from Salem’s platforms, and there will be no future distribution of the film or the book by Salem.”

What will the next round of fiction be from Trump and his sycophants and will his supporters so easily believe it yet again?

Just an FYI - Actually he will be sentenced on July 11th - not in June....
