thanks for the update.
this one is a hard one ....i really do think he is alive and living somewhere out west...

When Alex Batty, the teenager who was missing for 6 years in France, reappeared to rejoin his grandparents in the UK.... I really did think / hope this is what we will eventually hear about James.

It is just such a better scenario than other possibilities...

In Alex Batty's case, how did he provide for himself all those many years? TIA

He was on the run with his mother the whole time. Lived in a number of places, working on farms etc.
He left on his own to get back to his grandparents. Mother still on the lam, hiding out somewhere in France or other European location. I don't think Alex wants authorities to go after her tho.

Sheriff Chip Meister said the billboard has not led to any substantial clues yet, but that they think it could help them more in the warmer months when more people are at Devil’s Lake State Park.

[...]

She ["BB"] lives near the billboard and said she knows Yoblonski’s siblings because she used to work at the school they attend.

”It’s just kind of heartbreaking to think what are they going through wondering what happened to their brother? I wonder if they’re thinking, ‘Hey? Are they still looking for my brother or has everybody just forgotten about him?’” she said. “So, I think it’s really nice to see that on the billboard. There’s a lot of traffic that would see that.”

[...]

James’ father William Yoblonski is frustrated with investigators and said they are not looking hard enough. He also said he’s upset because they have not returned his phone or other personal belongings they obtained during the investigation.

Randomly checking in…nothing :(. But I see a couple of different photos on some thumbnails when I search his name.

... One year later, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and Yoblonski’s father, Bill, said they have no substantial leads.

Bill Yoblonski has not always seen eye to eye with Sauk County Sheriff’s Office investigators, claiming they spent too much time looking in the Baraboo Bluffs when he thinks someone kidnapped his son and made it look like he was still in the woods. Now, Bill said he has a better relationship with detectives who say they’re casting a wider net and still have people trying to find James.

Bill Yoblonski and the community will hold a gathering for James on Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at Badger Ammunition. This is the parking lot on Highway 12 near where the search party’s headquarters were last year. Anyone is welcome and attendees are asked to wear green clothing, because it is James’ favorite color.

IMO, I agree with Bill Yoblonski. IMO, I believe the same person was also involved in the unsolved murder of John Craig Schmutzer, 24, October 14, 2020, also at Devil's Lake State Park.

Witnesses said they saw a man running “frantically” and “out of control” north from the parking lot at the group camp in front of traffic, presumably onto or near Grottos Trail then north on East Bluff Trail to the north shore area of Devil's Lake, according to Wednesday's news release. The man was said to have fallen down multiple times while running.

Investigators say that in the days prior to the stabbing, Schmutzer had visited the Hilldale shopping center in Madison, Wildcat Mountain State Park in Vernon County, the LaValle area in Northwest Sauk County in addition to Devils Lake State Park.
It would be interesting to know what his activities consisted of at those locations.

"I know somebody's got him somewhere, and I can't believe he hasn't been seen or any tips have come in or anything else. He's my son. I won't give up. Ever," Bill Yoblonski said.

When James first went missing, his father said his son isn't someone who would run away, saying the situation is "dire."

Police have cleared Bill Yoblonski in their investigation. He spoke to WISN 12 News' Joyce Garbaciak in November. Click here to watch the full interview.

On the one year anniversary of his disappearance, James’ siblings released a balloon with his picture on it and the words “Come Home Soon, James.” The Yoblonski family, friends and strangers spent Wednesday night together at the Badger Army Ammunition Museum parking lot for a “Gathering of Hope for James Yoblonski.”

[...]

Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Detective Scott Steinhorst acknowledged that investigators do not believe James is in the woods anymore, though they spent over a week looking through the Baraboo Bluffs in 2023. The Yoblonski van was found abandoned on Highway 12 near the bluffs.

”Through the exhaustive search that we did there, we don’t believe that he’s there, no,” he said. “We put a lot of man hours in there, a lot of boots on the ground, aerial resources and it’s not likely that he’s in that location.”

[...]

Detective Steinhorst said they still believe James is alive and that there’s no evidence to support the theory he was kidnapped or that any family member was involved in his disappearance.

[...]

Something is amiss here. Detective thinks he’s still alive, hasn’t been kidnapped AND no family members being involved.

Maybe I am reaching here… is it possible that all the reports indicating that the father has been cleared is a way to continue investigating him?

I just can’t imagine the detective thinks the boy is surviving on his own with no help from family.
