The Carter County Sheriff’s Office gave an update on Friday on the search for Victor Birchfield, 61, who has been missing since June 21.

Birchfield is described as a white male with grey hair and hazel eyes, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen on June 19 in Elizabethton, wearing an orange or red shirt, grey basketball shorts, leather shoes and black socks. He is believed to be traveling in a silver Toyota 4Runner with Tennessee tag 070BKZV. The vehicle has noticeable damage to the rear. According to family members, Birchfield has a medical condition that may impair his ability to return home safely without assistance.

“It wasn’t like him to not tell us when he was going someplace, and he would not have left me without a car,” Tiffany Cole, his daughter, said.

She said that was particularly true recently, when she had car problems and he had shared his vehicle with her so that she could get things for her and her family.

She said her father had talked with her on the evening before his disappearance and had planned to to get with her the next morning so she could have transportation.

She said he last worked on the evening of Wednesday, June 19, “He liked to work through the night during the hot time of summer,” Cole said.

An airport security camera indicated he left work at 6:53 a.m. on Thursday. She said he would normally have driven to his Siam residence, but there is video camera evidence that his silver-colored 2003 Toyota 4Runner with Tenn. license number 070BKZV was in Hampton on Tenn. Highway 67 at 7:33 a.m. She said the camera images made it uncertain if he was the person driving the vehicle at that time.

The car was later seen on Thursday in North Carolina at Boone and Asheville. It was later seen in Clemson, S.C. and appeared to be heading towards Greenville and Spartanburg. There has been no trace since then.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee said a missing man from their area could be in the Upstate.

His vehicle was last spotted in Clemson heading toward Easley by Issaqueena Trail on 123, officials said. They believe his vehicle could still be in the Upstate area.

I wasn’t expecting this.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has confirmed the case of a missing man and an escaped inmate are being investigated as related incidents.

On June 20, inmate Billy Fletcher, 43, allegedly walked away from his work detail at the county detention center. Fletcher was serving a three-year sentence for violation of probation.

Victor Birchfield, 61, was reportedly last seen on June 19, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) issued a Silver Alert for him on June 22.

On Monday, Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley issued a statement, in which he said investigators believe the two men came into contact with one another.

Additional details were not given.

The CCSO reported on Friday that Birchfield’s vehicle, a silver 2003 Toyota 4Runner with damage to the rear, had been spotted in the Clemson, South Carolina area.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced on Sunday that Fletcher was believed to be in South Carolina after he was spotted leaving a Walmart in Greenville County.

Are they together now?
Was it by random chance they met or did they know each other?
Is Birchfield in danger or is he willingly with Fletcher?

I know and have spoken to the family, he does not know the inmate. The family has posted they do not believe Victor has been driving the vehicle. I will add the flyer the family is posting with the time line.

To me it sounds like Fletcher either abducted or more likely harmed Birchfield and has taken his car and gone in the run. I wonder why LE is being so circumspect in their remarks.

A little more info:
The family feared Birchfield may have been forced to help the prisoner escape the area.

I wonder what time Fletcher walked away from his work detail. Also, what was he originally charged with?

From the timeline, it appears Fletcher encountered Birchfield between 6:53 and 7:33.

His daughter did an interview ❤️❤️

What is strange is why would a guy on a 3 year probation violation charge want to turn that into a murder charge? Which is what I am afraid has happened. I hope to god I am wrong and the escapee is just holding VB hostage. The escape charge is one thing but to jump from being on a probation violation which is a couple of years to a possible murder charge which is life or possibly DP. If he has harmed VB then he has nothing to lose. He’s unstable and may harm anyone who comes into his path. I hope LE get him alive so at least the family can find out what happened to their loved one who was probably just being a nice guy and gave Fletcher a ride not knowing he was an escapee. Like I said I hope I’m wrong and VB is ok.

Everything I post is MOO and speculation.

To Note:
On June 20 around 6:50 a.m., security cameras at the airport picked up Birchfield leaving in his car. However, after this point, the driver is unrecognizable in the footage.

Cole said her father’s phone either died or was turned off on June 21.

Cole looked into her father’s bank accounts and found two charges since his disappearance, one in Asheville, North Carolina and one in Clemson, South Carolina.

She said the cameras at the location in Asheville were not working.

And then in Clemson, South Carolina, there was a [declined] charge at a Tiger Mart on his debit card.

And again, we’ve tried to review footage there and we didn’t see my dad or my vehicle at that time. But at that point, we didn’t know to be looking for someone that may not be my dad.”

“But, you know, as a family, we had gathered 20-plus hours of video footage. I had handed out thousands of fliers, spoke to hundreds of people in the community, probably 75 businesses, reviewing any footage that was possibly on the way of their journey.”

“Anywhere between the Elizabethton airport into Hampton through Butler on 421 or back even on 321 towards Boone down to Asheville and then Clemson, South Carolina.”

“That’s all we need is a tiny clip of seeing which way the vehicle traveled.,” Cole said. “That’s really what we’re trying to decide is if my dad and Billy Fletcher have encountered each other somewhere along this journey, where did that happen?”
