quotes from her boyfriend back in March 2011:

“If she wasn’t murdered, how did she end up in a ditch on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere?” said Chris, a friend and roommate from Toronto.

“I’d just let her talk, just get whatever she needed out of it,” said Chris, who didn’t want his last name used. He last saw Freeland on Jan. 16, when he and his mother shared a pancake breakfast with her.

It looks like police have a pretty good idea how she ended up in the ditch after all, Chris.

From a new article:
Police say that while Freeland and Andronakos lived together, they were not romantically involved.

“There was a referral through a friend of Kera’s, who told her about a place for her to stay when she travelled to Toronto,” explained Detective Christine Gilpin, from the Ontario Provincial Police. She adds Andronokas was a suspect from the beginning of the investigation.

This is from an earlier report.....the name CHRIS....HER ROOMMATE is quoted!!!!!

"“If she wasn’t murdered, how did she end up in a ditch on the side of
the road in the middle of nowhere?” said Chris, a friend and roommate
from Toronto."

I totally remember that info about the pancake breakfast. Was his story about that a bunch of bs?

This might be of interest to websleuthers: the article suggests that perps actually DO follow social media..... Here's what the TO Sun says about Kera's case and Sonia Varaschin's:

From http://www.torontosun.com/2013/01/31/arrest-made-in-toronto-escorts-murder

"TORONTO - Wonder if Sonia Varaschin's brutal killer follows the Toronto Sun on Twitter?

The man arrested Thursday in Calgary and accused of Kera Freeland's murder does.

It's not unusual for killers on the lam to keep up on social media.

Russell Williams did. The disgraced former colonel was a regular on police and media websites looking at whatever clues may be offered.

Luka Magnotta was also keeping up with the investigation in the murder of Lin Jun while he was in Paris before his arrest last year.

When you are allegedly trying to hide something that heinous it only makes common sense to keep one eye on the door.

When you are out there free, it's always good to keep up on what might be going on with a case you can be sure has not been forgotten by police.

With today's technology it's just a matter of time before the knock on the door comes.

Or should it be that it won't be long before that door is kicked down.

The reality is if police have DNA evidence from a murder scene, it's only a matter of time before they come up with a match because they are won't stop looking until they do.

An example is this Freeland case. They found her body in Caledon in March 2011 and all old-school-type investigative leads seemed to be going nowhere.

It seems whoever dumped her body out there in a ditch was a ghost.

"Investigators never lost focus," said OPP Sgt. Peter Leon. "We always say in a case like this, 'as each day passes we are one day closer to making an arrest.' "

Christopher Andronakos found that out first-hand.

He was arrested in Calgary Thursday morning and is expected to be brought back to Ontario Friday to face murder charges. The 35-year-old, who had been Freeland's roommate in Toronto, was, according to sources, interviewed soon after her disappearance.

Two years later he's in custody.

Today's science can be formidable. It's going to be interesting to see if there was some DNA assistance from the pregnant Freeland's fetus to help police get to where they got to.

Time will tell. The charges against Andronakos are only allegations and have not been tested in court. He will have his opportunity to defend himself.

So when's it going to be the turn Varaschin's killer? The 42-year-old nurse was viciously murdered in her Orangeville home three years ago this summer.

What is your name? Where are you?

Like in the Freeland case, there's a feeling that someone is getting away with murder.

But the game is never over.

Varaschin's killer has got to be wondering when an OPP officer like Sgt. Jim Smyth might drop by for a chat?

Or if this has already happened, the killer is only left to wonder.

In Varaschin's case, there are three crime scenes and the word passion was used to describe what kind of killing it was.

It can't be easy to sleep. Three crime scenes surely provided the crime lab specialists something to run through their computer.

"It's very complex and very active," Leon said. "We don't close the books on these until we find the person responsible."

Keep reading the Toronto Sun, Sonia's killer, because we are going to stay on it too."

Can someone please tell me what i'm missing here about Kera's friend JD and the "former roommate" relationships. This is going back to questions I had earlier in this case:

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Found Deceased Canada - Kera Freeland, 20, found in ditch near Caledon ON, March 2011

And, if Kera disappeared one day (after the supposed bad date story) and her body was found the next, how could the agency that JD and the roommate were subsequently calling be giving such bogus stories about why Kera wasn't at work?

And the cell phone thing still puzzles me ... how did Kera's cell phone end up at JD's apartment?

And is this Chris Kera's former roommate that was also supposed to be the father of her unborn child?

ETA: Correction on the dates ... Kera disappeared Jan 16 and her body found Mar 17, so the confusion was because the 16th and 17th were being referred to without reference to the month.

I will go away for a bit ;)

Has there been a trial??

Have looked several times, but cannot seem to find any recent updates, maybe because of the publication ban?

Christopher Andronakos, 35, is accused of killing one-time roommate Kera Freeland, 20, whose lifeless body was found in a ditch 70 kilometres northeast of Toronto in March 2011.
During a brief court appearance, a handcuffed Andronakos, who’s charged with second-degree murder, sat in the prisoner’s box wearing the same red, white and black-striped track jacket he was wearing when arrested in Calgary on Jan. 30.

He was brought to Ontario Feb. 1.
Lawyers on Wednesday asked for a publication ban on evidence.
Court-appointed duty counsel Dan Pole said Andronakos had asked for a ban and requested more time to secure an Ontario lawyer.

Has anyone seen or heard an update? Over 7 years since the last published article - I’ve tried searching the Orangeville court docket with no luck. Publication ban or not, you would think they would be close to a conclusion...
Welcome to Ws AlTrendy!
Still have not come across an update, wondering why there is a publication ban?

I've also been trying to find an update....
I haven't followed ALL of the info so apologies if I am missing details, but:
I'm wondering about the info in the articles about LE still trying to solve KF's murder (dated April 2013; at this time, there had already been an arrest and some court appearances) --

specifically, LE was seeking to find the driver whose vehicle went into the ditch who waited at a farmhouse for a tow, as well as the tow driver.

Does LE think the driver was the ex-roommate??? Or someone else??? Do they expect the tow truck driver to be witness confirming the identity of the man arrested -- or confirming that it wasn't him??? Is it possible Christopher Andronakos was not found guilty??? Is there another person who may be responsible??? Should we still be sleuthing for justice for Kera???

I'm hoping there has been a resolution and it's just that we haven't heard about it yet (or missed it, somehow). But it seems odd to me, like to many of you, that we can't seem to find news of a conviction (-?)

See OPP working to solve two-year-old murder case
and/or

and dotr also linked to this story above.

Mississauga News

CALEDON — Ontario Provincial Police continue to probe the murder of Kera Freeland, a pregnant 23-year-old former Calgary woman who was found dead in a Heart Lake Rd. ditch on March 17 two years ago.
Investigators have learned that, on a night in January 2011, a vehicle went into a Caledon ditch and had to be removed by a tow truck. Police believe the male driver waited for the tow at a home near where his vehicle entered the ditch. Police would like to identify the tow truck driver and the resident who assisted the man.
On Jan. 30, Freeland's ex-roommate from her Toronto address, 35-year-old Christopher Andronakos, was arrested without incident. He has been charged with second-degree murder in her death.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit at 519-927-3041, Calgary Police non-emergency number at 403 266-1234, or Crime Stoppers in Ontario at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)."

Has ANYONE found any information on a conviction in Kera's murder? I was just posting on Sonia Varaschin's thread and suddenly realizing I don't actually *know* that Kera's case was solved. It would be great if someone has that info to post it here :)

The only thing i found was the irony that his next court date was on Valentine's Day.
February 6, 2013
''Andronakos is charged with second-degree murder, and is back before a judge on Feb. 14.'' (2013)

Does anyone local/close (either geographically or otherwise) to Kera's case have any information??? There seems to be no info on conviction nor sentencing of the man, CA, who was charged in 2013 in her murder. He appeared in Orangeville for court! (I'm always wondering about links to Sonia Varaschin and other cases. But I get that there may be 0 meaning to location.) Have we ever had a public photo of CA?
If none of us here have any info/updates to share, I might try reaching out to one of the area journos -- but if other websleuthers have an "in" with local media, please do take that lead :)
Kera -- and her mom -- deserve justice.

Sorry -- I can't seem to edit my post above for correction. I see there's a photo of CA clipped for us right above in post #149 (thanks as always, dotr!!) and of course CA appeared in O-ville court. Kera was found not far from where was Sonia was....
