What I would give for Covid to be caught in the same manner as Mpox. I could go out and about, living life as I used to, maskless and not at all concerned that I could catch it. Instead, I'm dealing with a disease that's spread invisibly, through exhalation of breath.

From your article: It can spread through close contact such as touching, kissing or sex, as well as through contaminated materials like sheets, clothing and needles, according to WHO.

I feel exactly as you do. My life has not been the same since the beginning of the pandemic, and never will be. Because of my age, I have to be very careful. I still do not go out to dinner- we get carrry out---- we have gone to breakfast when there is hardly anybody in a restaurant-- I wear a mask only sparingly like if I am in a doctor's office where there are patients in the waiting room. I really don't see my friends- I think I have become somewhat paranoid about getting Covid, but it is evil and deadly- and if you don't die you could wind up with Long Covid which could be milder or very severe. I also admit to not being vaccinated in two years-- I had both shots in 2021 and then I had two boosters, the last in July 2022. Since then I admit to being afraid of complications from the vaccine. I read an article about how the vaccine affects the gut and I already have problems in this regard. Sigh

I got a dose of last year's vaccine in late May, so if I wait 4 months, it will be late September. But we are planning to fly to California in late September to visit relatives, so maybe we should get the newer version before we go.

It typically takes about 2 weeks before producing antibodies so best to get it 2 weeks before. With that said, I don't know that they can give it to you 3.5 months after the last one. IF they even check the system to see when the previous one was (since they no longer fill out our cards. At least here they don't). Due to that I'll be curious to hear if they'll give it to you less than 4 months apart.

I went to the doctors this week in the UK and the video screen was showing a public announcement to recommend wearing masks in groups of people, particularly those you don’t know. First time I have seen such an overt announcement.

That recommendation just seems silly imo. I’ve only caught Covid from people that I know *shrug*

I haven’t kept up with summer surge trends outside the US, but we’re still going strong here and it’s back to school time as well so…

I agree that "recommend wearing masks in groups of people, particularly those you don’t know" isn't a real smart thing to tell people.

I was JUST telling someone after reading that post that "Covid isn't less catchy from someone you know, it's the same regardless if it's a total stranger, or the man or woman you married to the children you bore."!! It seems like that might make some people (the ones with less common sense IMO) that you're less likely to catch it from friends and family, That's not the right message to send IMO. :(

But we know more about the habits of our family members who live with us, the risks or lack of risks they take, their handwashing habits, etc. so this advice does make sense. In a crowded space with strangers, we don't know if they just flew back on a crowded plan from overseas, or if they work in a hospital emergency department and are exposed daily to easily transmitted disease, etc. So with an abundance of caution, we might want to mask up in those contexts.

We've had two positives at work, week before last. Two more out this week, but tested negative - though symptoms are identical to the positives.

Last month an employee at my other facility called in because her 1 year-old tested positive. Her pediatrician was not concerned at all, told Mom to keep her home and in three or four days she could go back to childcare. I thought to myself - Covid shut down the entire world, but this is how it's viewed now?
