Can I ask you guys please .. previous precedent for this is the Michael Jackson case for involuntary manslaughter. What is the conspiracy element as far as Kenneth is concerned ? I know he didn’t act ideally but is conspiracy a stretch for him ? Fairly sure he wasn’t trying to kill him .. more maybe stuck between a rock and a hard place of him being sick v being sicker? Am I missing something ? It’s irrelevant now he’s taken a plea but is that because he wants or has to keep the details out of public view ?
Can see the doctors conspiring to make cash. Is the unsaid thing that Kenneth was shaving something off or profiteering from it himself ? I know he was paying way over the odds but any help understanding this very welcome.

As a Rush fan since I was 14 years old, of course I had to read Geddy Lee's autobiography when it came out late last year. He's quite candid about how they really started making money in the late 1970s, and of course the cocaine followed. They all liked it, and realized it was a problem when some really skanky people became band hangers-on. They all knew they were very fortunate that for all of them, it was a take it or leave it kind of thing.

I just wish Matthew Perry and his ilk could have done that.

The charge isn't involuntary manslaughter, it is that he conspired to 'distribute' the ketamine (ie not for his own use but to make it available to others). So he got into a conspiracy with illegal dealers to illegally acquire the ketamine and then, to make the distribution charge more serious, the ketamine he illegally acquired caused the death of the person he gave/sold it to.

Don't know if you remember the woman who bragged to a tabloid that she'd injected John Belushi with the speedball that killed him. Well, the FBI came a-knocking about that and she went to jail.

Something that bothers me about people in Perry's world though. They can leave

For instance, I have some loved ones in addiction, whos children were teetering on the ledge of doing it too, as well as geting involved in gangs. For all the rehabs, destoxes, therapy, peer mentoring, nothing worked, because the state plopped her right back into a ghetto complex surrounded by junkies, dealers, pimps and predators

I always said, if there was someplace she could go, far away from here, where her connections are, and truly heal they might have had a chance. But people like Perry DO have that chance, and I don't understand why they stay in Hollywood when they don't have to

But then I guess I need to remember that addicts are, by their very nature, selfish and secretive. I just wish it had been different, for all of them, for all the souls dying from this.

RBBM Cedars: I am old enough to remember when John Belushi was killed by the woman bragging she gave him the "final" speedball. This is case has shades of that, for sure. However, it was the doctors bragging about MP being a "moron" and such. I wouldn't be surprised if they called him that to his face. He probably just laughed them off, if something like that happened, IMO. He was so desperate for his ketamine, he probably figured they were teasing him. I wonder if the assistant bragged to anyone that he gave him his final shot? I haven't had time to look at all the text messages, RL has thrown me an issue that has gobsmacked me.

Thanks Cedars for remembering about John Belushi.

JMO, IMO, and all other disclaimers.

Yeah, this all can become quite complex. I was explaining the situation as I've read it to my husband the other day and his first reaction was, "MP was his BOSS. Of course he'd do whatever he was asked to do." Then I suggested this wasn't an employer-employee situation, but rather, one that was different in that the assistant lived with him for many, many years and had even found him unconscious before. Kenneth was probably considered a close friend by then and vice versa. Was Kenneth "afraid" of being fired if he didn't do what MP ordered or asked him to do? Or was he truly trying to "help" him? Or did he not care and just needed another paycheck? I don't think anyone knows the answer to that other than Kenneth. Maybe they both thought they were being "careful" and MP could tolerate the doses previously so what could go wrong now? But given the amount in MP's system was anesthesia stage, WOAH. And it's still VERY hinky to me that supposedly K was asked to run errands and during the time of his absence MP died. Seriously? Coincidence?

Musical trivia piece: Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown" was written about that woman, a decade earlier.

She should have been locked up herself (or was she?)

IMO Kenneth enjoyed his life at the expense of MP. He had perks, lived in a fabulous house, hobnobbed with celebrities and got paid well in the process. Probably travelled for free as well.

Make no mistake, whatever MP wanted Kenneth did. It was in Kenneth’s best interest.

MP was used and enabled by many.

It’s just so terribly sad.

It is complex, for people to commit to change. So senseless. Reminds me of Heath Ledger, who died a few years ago of a drug overdose. He was a brilliant actor. With so much to live for.

I just looked up Heath Ledger and turns out he died 16 and a half years ago or nearly 2 decades ago. Time flies

I wonder which word was used more, allegedly or plea deal. How could Mathew Perry’s death be accidental? He didn’t inject himself. How is it known Mathew Perry asked his assistant to inject him with a large dose of ketamine, “shoot me up with a big one”. Sounds like blame the victim???

"Dr. Mark Chavez, 54, of San Diego,
reached a plea agreement with prosecutors earlier this month
and would be the third person to plead guilty in the aftermath of the Friends star’s fatal overdose last year.

He is expected to plead guilty to conspiring to distribute the surgical anesthetic ketamine

Chavez agreed to cooperate with prosecutors as they pursue others,
including the doctor Chavez worked with to sell ketamine to Perry.

Details of the plea deal have not yet been made public."

As authorities raided the North Hollywood alleged “stash house” apartment of Jasveen Sangha in March 2024, they say they found key evidence connecting her to Matthew Perry’s overdose death from ketamine.

The agents also say they learned of a second victim who died years earlier – with little fanfare…and no press conferences. His name was Cody McLaury.

Back in 2019, after some of Cody’s friends hadn't heard from him in over a day, they went to his apartment and found him on his bed unresponsive. He was later declared dead. The autopsy report listed his cause of death as “acute ketamine,” along with heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine toxicity.
.....
Kimberly says she texted Sangha herself stating: “The ketamine you sold my brother killed him. It’s listed as the cause of death.”

The indictment alleges that within days of receiving that text, Sangha did a Google search for “can ketamine be listed as a cause of death[?]”Prosecutors allege she continued to sell ketamine from her stash house after Cody’s death.
