OK, I guess I don't understand Foxfire. AK has a Son of Sam law. That will not benefit his family, so......? The family cannot gain from memoirs, book deals, movies, etc. So he didn't do it for that (if he knew about this). That leaves "kill me now" from what I can see. What am I missing?

Foxfire - thanks for the input on leave in the Army. I had considered the same question as Snoopster, but you answered that handily. One further question, however.....IF he hadn't put in for leave (paper trail), would he be allowed to leave the base for an extended period of time on the Monday...
