Not to be gruesome, but it is very possible/likely that the body would have been picked up in the head. We unfortunately get deer often, especially in tall corn (and at night). It's not a pretty sight when that happens.

Harvest time depends partially on when it was put in and when it's dry. It could be October to November depending on dry down and weather (maybe late September with an extremely dry summer). And when harvesting that late it's going to be field corn. Sweet corn or field corn for consumption...

If I can't post this please remove. Maybe a local can confirm, but Google produces two locations for Yarrabee farms (one in town and one at the farm south of town). The one shown in town is right down the street from the Jack's residence and would have probably been in sight of her running...
