GUILTY IN - Melinda Lindsey, 23, shot to death, Porter County, 16 Jan 2015 - #2

I think the reporter who is covering this is doing a very good job. He has a certain amount of space to fill and he has a deadline that is probably very close to the end of the trial each day. He's giving us a good sense of what is going on, considering.

The biggest problem for me is, and always has been, the fact that she was shot with her own gun. Nobody stages a home invasion hoping to find a loaded gun conveniently lying on the nightstand next to their sleeping victim. The whole idea is just ludicrous. Which makes me think that there was...

GUILTY IN - Melinda Lindsey, 23, shot to death, Porter County, 16 Jan 2015 - #2

iI I always thought Lindsey expected the cops to believe that he was rendered unconscious while he was asleep and dragged, still unconscious, into the baby's room where he "woke up" to the sound of the gunshot. In the previous trial a witness testified that was impossible because even if...

I think the fact that he kept condoms in his vehicle might be a clue.

So today the focus was on the insurance policy. Maybe the blood splatter testimony was covered in more detail than the reporter mentioned on Friday.

Especially following the pictures and descriptions of the gloves sitting in a pan of water in the sink.

It seemed so cut and dried to me the first time that I still have trouble believing anyone would doubt Lindsey's guilt. But they did. So while I have hope that this trial will go differently I can't help but fear that the creep will actually get away with murder. Look at OJ.

Absolutely. It makes no difference whatsoever whether she was a dancer or a dental assistant. If she was looking for a job so she could leave her husband that is the point, not what she did when she got there.

She had a baby to take care of and dancing was how she made her living before she met Steven. If she wanted to get away from him it would make sense that she would try to return to her old job. I think it goes to her intent to leave him. The insurance policy was about to expire and she was...

So it looks like this time instead of throwing out red herrings the defense strategy is to attack the investigators. http://www.nwitimes.com/news/crime-and-court/investigation-attacked-in-lindsey-murder-trial/article_a89b5d56-b738-5311-a1c4-dabbc6e1f1c9.html

And yet three people on the previous jury believed it.

Last time there were daily updates in the Chicago Tribune. This article from yesterday states that the trial is scheduled to last for three weeks rather than the two originally planned. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/news/ct-ptb-lindsey-preview-st-1103-20151102-story.html

This goes way beyond a baby girl losing her mother. Because of the internet, that little girl will someday find out that her father was looking at adoption sites while he planned the murder of her mother. Those records will be there if she chooses to look. Steven Lindsey is the scum of the...

Better 12 jurors than one corrupt judge. Not every judge is wise, fair, or honest, which is why we are better off with the jury system. It's not perfect - but neither are people - so better a jury than a judge for sale.

I totally agree. It doesn't matter who she was or what she did for a living 5 years ago - or five days ago. Nor does it matter that Lindsey was an abusive husband or a deadbeat dad, except as it goes to motive. ALL that matters is what happened in that room that night. She was shot with her own...

I just don't understand how ANYONE could hear about what happened and what Lindsey claimed happened, and believe there was anybody else in the house that night. I just don't get it. I hate to say so, but I have to suspect that those jurors held Melinda's past against her. The Blame the Victim...

Next time around I hope they spend more time making the case that Lindsey is the ONLY one who could have done it, because there was NOBODY ELSE in the house that night. He's an abusive a$$hole and a deadbeat dad, but that doesn't make him a murderer. The fact that he was the only one with motive...

I feel bad for the family members too. He will have no problem taking everything they have, and then when it's all gone blaming them for his predicament. And if he does get out - where does he live? With his brother and his wife, and baby girl? Then those poor people will get to meet the man...
