It's shocking and heart-breaking to see the extreme damage and destruction caused by Helene in the Appalachians. Homes, roads, bridges gone. Recovery is going to take a long, long time. I'm in central NC so the mountains are just a few hours from us. I can hardly take in what has happened.

We are fine here and the sun is trying to come out. The tornado warnings around here have been canceled, but there are some off to the east of us. But I haven't heard of any actual tornadoes in NC.

We have a tornado warning now... There is a rain band that has been pummeling us for some time.

From the National Hurricane Center: We are on in NC on the eastern edge of the orangish blob, getting rain and some wind. There are tornado warnings not far west of us and in some other areas of southeastern NC. (We have a tornado watch and have the TV on.)

Those are the reasons we canceled our trip and are staying home.

Our friend's wife has Covid now, but that's not surprising. He said she barely has symptoms but he has cold symptoms and is feeling yucky. :confused: We are okay so far, hoping to stay well.

DH grilled burgers tonight, but it didn't occur to either of us to put some cheese on them! They were delicious anyway. I put lettuce, tomato, and a little mayo on mine.

Thanks, Gemmie. So since I just got the Pfizer 2024-25 vaccine last week, if I followed your plan I would get additional doses in January and May, then the updated vaccine in September 2025. Sounds reasonable to me, as a person approaching age 80. I wish the protection from the vaccine lasted...

I got a dose of last year's vaccine in late May, so if I wait 4 months, it will be late September. But we are planning to fly to California in late September to visit relatives, so maybe we should get the newer version before we go.
