PA - Rebekah Byler, 23, mother & six months pregnant, murdered, Crawford County, 26 Feb 2024 *Arrest*

The questions about attending church services are weird. If the lady who was asked about services was Old Order Amish, her service would be at someone’s home, not at a church building. As such, “English” people don’t just show up to Amish services, the way you could visit a regular church...

My thoughts on the wound are that he might have yanked her covering off and, if it were attached with straight pins to her tightly pulled-back hair, that pieces of her scalp could have been ripped off with it.

Found Deceased TN - Riley Strain, 22, missing from a bar, Nashville, 8 March 2024

I apologize if this has been answered or discussed before and I missed it, but how quickly does your phone stop responding or sending signals if it falls into water? I keep thinking about the water. A student went missing after a night out when my daughter was in college, and his body was...

Yes, how long was SC in the Byler home? Was he in there smoking, having a drink, touching stuff? We saw all the wash on the line, which would have been put up Monday morning. Was SC creeping the house while RB was out hanging laundry?

I’m wondering whether SC was an actual foster parent (as in approved and paid by the state) or was in a more informal role to the daughter who spoke out. According to PA records and as mentioned in several articles, he has a history of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges. Would...

I think many of the adoptions by Amish and Mennonite families start out as foster care situations. The people are used to having lots of kids around, have SAHMs, and want to do good, so adding in a foster kid isn’t a struggle as others age out of the nest. Then they grow to love each other, the...

If they are like the Lancaster County Amish, a church district meets every other Sunday. The “off” Sundays are supposed to be used for family worship in the home.

And if that’s the case, it sounds like he came prepared. But why? I also think that a Monday morning is a time you wouldn’t expect to find an Amish dad (who doesn’t farm) at home. Did SC intentionally choose that time? I wonder if the police, in tracing the Byler family’s whereabouts on the day...

I’m just really having trouble understanding what could be such a big deal to you that you could shoot a pregnant woman in the head in her own home.

I’ve worked at banks recently, and the Amish in Lancaster County use banks with no problem. Some aren’t much for debit or credit cards, but others bank the same as everyone else does. But I still think many do have a stockpile of cash in case they want to buy something large (equipment, work...

Some people have the impression that Amish people keep huge amounts of cash in the house.

That’s very true. I work for a business where most of our customers are Amish or Mennonite. When they call, they often say things like, “This is David Fisher from Whatever Road in Whatever Town,” because they know just saying their name will narrow our computer search to 100 possible customers.

Wow, I’m glad that didn’t drag on. I wonder what the connection was between him and the Bylers.

Thanks. I saw that too. So no gunshot, just cutting wounds? This is kind of confusing. Not much info, and seems like there are some inaccuracies floating around.

The placement of her body sounds like she may have opened the door to someone who harmed her right off. It would be helpful to know the condition of the home when she was found. Ransacked? Undisturbed? Unless RB is an exception, young Amish mothers, as far as I know them, are toward the...

Yes, the woman being there doesn’t sound suspicious to me right off. Amish families and their drivers often become friends, and many rely on neighbors for help (and typically reciprocate with help or food). Sometimes family friends can be cousins but too distant to be called a relative.

So do I! Yes, some ladies still drive carriages for short trips, but a lot of the older ones have given it up. There’s so much traffic now. Hiring a driver seems like it’s becoming much more common as communities become less walkable (and less convenient to travel with a horse).

There are people who are hired by the Amish to drive them for business, errands, or on trips. Ladies going shopping sometimes have a driver take them to the store. People going a long way for a doctor appointment will probably hire a driver. It’s usually on an as-needed basis, not like the...
