With Canadian tax, there are exceptions - not everything is "income." Monetary gifts, lottery winnings, and gambling (other than for professional gamblers) are exempt because they are not considered income. Reward monies may or may not be - haven't looked at the case law.
I agree that the article itself was filler. But I think his main purpose was that final sentence - JS and his sister are still at loggerheads, and who knows which side her ex, BK, is on.
I do not agree that feeling and/or displaying emotions are entirely a learned behaviour. Plus, we have no idea what BS was like in private with his family. It's possible, but it's equally possible JS comes across as indifferent because he is.
If any of you have followed KD's series of articles Toronto Star entitled "Death in a Small Town", concerning the tragic cold case of a little boy, Nathaniel McLellan, it appears that it has led directly to manslaughter charges being laid at last. I think KD views himself as a crusader as well...
Instead of chemical castration, as he suggests, why not offer him physical, which would ensure he couldn't skip doses. (Preferably without anaesthesia.)
I think we have lots of evidence that BS, whatever his virtues, was not a feminist! I think HS was a very shrewd woman, by all accounts, and there's no reason to imagine that the daughters aren't at least as capable as their brother.
Interesting theory. So, in your scenario, the bizarre staging and means of death would be intended to suggest the killer(s) had a close. personal motive whereas in fact none existed beyond the corporate?

Given there is zero evidence to support the theory, and given everything known or reported about HS (her devotion to her husband, in particular), I feel this particular speculation is offensive and damaging to her memory.
If, like me, you're a fan of police procedural novels (esp. UK), the lead detective ALWAYS rushes to the crime scene, before single-handedly solving the case, of course. But I wonder if that's usual here in Canada? This struck me as the most outspokenly critical of TPS Donovan has been. Is it...
