The bf probably reported her missing soon after he had last seen her because he went through her phone himself and found the text between NB and JL.. I read somewhere that he didn't report his gun missing until LE came to his home and that was probably due to him not realizing it was gone yet...

It seems to me that she was trying to clean up, obviously phone already ripped from wall, she was placing phone in trash can but due to it being too full, she placed it that way. Maybe she was looking up emergency numbers and the perpetrator caught her doing so, was angry and ripped phone off...
