Nations was arrested by Woodland Police Department on suspicions of possession of a weapon by a prior offender, and potential charges from the sheriff's office are pending, according to police.

Kirby said citizens submitted tips to the media that Nations or the homicide were somehow connected to the deaths of 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams, who went missing Feb. 13 while hiking on secluded trails east of Delphi and were found dead the next day.

That information was passed on to police in Colorado, who relayed it to investigators in Indiana, Kirby said.

In a statement to the Journal & Courier, Indiana State Police Sgt. Kim Riley said detectives were made aware of Nations' arrest and have been investigating his possible ties to the girls' deaths

The Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, blends forensic science and computer technology into a tool for linking violent crimes. It enables federal, state, and local forensic laboratories to exchange and compare DNA profiles electronically, thereby linking serial violent crimes to each other and to known offenders. Using the National DNA Index System of CODIS, the National Missing Persons DNA Database also helps identify missing and unidentified individuals.

"FRANKLIN, IN (WTHR) - Daniel Nations who was questioned by Indiana State Police last year as a person of interest in the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German near Delphi is back in Johnson County facing unrelated charges."

*Reposting Jax's quote so it is quotable (not visible in blue):
"Indiana State Police no longer consider Nations as an active suspect in the Delphi case."

"Back in Indiana where the next step of Nations' legal journey is set to begin, he remains a person of interest in the killing of two eighth-graders in Delphi last February. He caught Indiana State Police's attention after his arrest in Colorado; after two detectives traveled to Teller County to interview him, they said there was no new information gleaned that could "specifically include or exclude" Nations as a suspect in the case."

"Investigators in Colorado contacted Indiana State Police after receiving*multiple tips comparing Nations' mugshot to the sketch of the Delphi killer.*

Besides possible similarities in his appearance to the police sketch of the Delphi killer, a number of other coincidences drew investigators toward Nations. He is a registered sex offender, was driving with expired Indiana plates when he was arrested in Colorado and he was living in Indiana at the time Libby and Abby were murdered."
