I initially was thinking that nice car was a potential motive for foul play, but given that it was sunk it's gotta be something other than robbery. I guess we will know more when we find out the identities of the arrested. Great job by the Sheriff's office - so nice to see quick action in a missing person's case instead of the oft assumed "voluntary missing, we have no indications of foul play, blah blah, we'll look at cell and electronic info...eventually" playbook that often happens.

Wow. 4 people arrested! I don't know who told, but I am so glad they did. With 4 people involved, 1 of them is bound to have jabberjaws. I'm glad they blabbed and that someone with a conscience heard and reported.

It’s hard to believe Raegan and Dustin willingly stopped at a boat launch at or around 12:30 on the way to see a relative in Kenner (45-50 minute drive) and on to a Dr’s appointment in Baton Rouge (an hour + from Kenner.) Like someone else suggested it sounds like an ambush.
Maybe the tipster had a conscience or they wanted to save their own skin. The The Sheriff’s press conference tomorrow will be interesting.

Who said about the nice car? You were right! Press conference said car jacking gone bad! As soon as I get to my computer, I will get the details and post a link. What a senseless murder. And now, not only do they not have a car, they just lost their freedom. Morons.

Pictures and names of the suspects at link below:

Jason Landry, of Slidell, Brittney "Beezy" Savell, of Slidell, Derrion Lemoine, of Lacombe, and Steven "Stevie" Oliviere, of Slidell, were each arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, investigators said.
Sheriff's Office investigators said a dive team Monday found the bodies of Day and Hartline at the East Pearl River Boat Launch in the vehicle they were last seen in.

[h=1]Missing Pearl River residents each shot in the head during ‘carjacking gone bad’[/h]
SLIDELL – Two missing people who were found in a submerged vehicle in Pearl River were both shot in the head during what police officials are calling a “carjacking gone bad.”

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said at a press conference this morning that 20-year-old Raegan Elizabeth Day was shot twice in the head and 28-year-old Dustin R. Hartline was shot once in the back of the head.

Eighteen-year-old Jason Landry and 25-year-old Brittney “Beezy” Savell, who both live in Slidell, were arrested in Waveland, Mississippi, while 22-year-old Derrion Lemoine and 27-year-old Steve “Stevie” Olivieri were arrested in Louisiana.
“We learned during this investigation that this was a carjacking gone bad,” Smith said. “These four individuals that were arrested for first degree homicide had planned this, premeditated this.”
The four arrested suspects met Day and Hartline on Salmen Street.
“They had masks on, they used guns, and, to steal this 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, they used force,” Smith said. “Both these two individuals were shot, and then put in the vehicle and driven to the boat launch, where the car was disposed of.”

It doesn't make any sense, does it?

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said that the two victims of a double homicide whose bodies were found in the dead woman's submerged car were set up by four people who wanted to steal Raegan Day's 2011 Camaro.

Smith said that Brittney Savelle was an acquaintance of the 20-year-old day and contacted her to meet up near Brown's Village Road to discuss selling the vehicle. She and her friend, Dustin Hartline went to the meeting on Feb. 15, the last day that they were seen.

But Savelle and three others, wearing masks, actually intended to steal the vehicle, Smith said. According to St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston, the two were shot in the head. Day was shot in the back of the head and the front of the head and Hartline was shot in the back of the head.

Her body was found in the car, which was in East Pearl River, while his was in the trunk of the car, Smith said.

That’s crazy. What are four people going to do with one car?

Very sad. RIP Raegan and Dustin.

I wonder what the motive for the killing was.

It was established pretty quickly that it was a double homicide. I guess they were shot and no weapon near them. Awful.

Same thoughts -- IMO, for LE to so quickly announce homicide, there must have been bullet wounds, or maybe -- though not as likely IMO, knife wounds. And apparently, LE had some info on the location, IMO. They searched this river location first, IIANM. And LE says they have a lead or something similar. Oh, what lifelong sadness for those who loved them. THey were young, with many years of life ahead of them, now gone. SMH. Could it have been mistaken identity -- doing away with the wrong people? Tried to rob them or take their car & the friends wouldn't give them what they wanted? Maybe we'll find out soon. :(

Hi Borndem - MSM reports upthread explain Reagan was shot twice in the head and Dustin once. Carjacking gone wrong. =(

ETA: Ugh, I had Dustin's name incorrect for a second.

Yep -- someone blabbed.

My in-laws were friends with the Chief of Police here in Raleigh, NC, and I was discussing a certain murder/arrest with him -- this was years ago. I asked him how they found and arrested the murderer so quickly in that case, and he said two words: "People talk." And I've never forgotten it. ("Loose lips sink ships," as they say.)

So glad this part of the waiting and worrying is over for the families -- I would imagine that they felt it would probably not end well. Now the mourning and emptiness and the "If only..." part will begin for many folks.
