Remains that are believed to be human were found Wednesday afternoon in a residential area of Easton, Massachusetts, according to authorities.

Officers responded around 12:50 p.m. to a report of "potential human remains" in a brook off Summer Street, Easton police said.

Officers were seen in the yard of a house on Summer Street near Black Brook Road.

According to Chief of Police Keith Boone, at just after 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Easton Police received a report of potential human remains discovered in the area of 100 Summer Street. An area resident located the remains in a brook adjacent to their property.

Easton Detectives and Massachusetts State Police Crime Services responded. The area was secured while the scene was processed by investigators. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner collected the remains and testing will be conducted to confirm if they are in fact human.

Matthew Yeomans of Easton was last seen Sunday, Sept. 19 of 2021, at approximately 9 p.m. at his grandfather’s home on the 100 block of Summer Street in Easton.

A missing person's family and friends will have some answers when the identity and cause of death are confirmed.

It seems likely the remains are Matthew Yeomans because he lived on that street and that's where he was last seen. He lived with his grandfather. The lot was 5 acres. Matt's grandfather passed away since he went missing; he was the only heir. A friend of Matthew's late mother considered him a stepson. I hope the discovery of remains provides comfort.

Remains confirmed to be Matthew Yeomans:

I'm glad Matthew's family and friends have some of the answers. I hope the identification brings them peace.
