What the he!! does "Manslaughter by Sudden Quarrel" mean?

I had to kill him because he quarreled with me???

A couple of years ago in Vegas two guys who didn't know each other got into words, one punched the other and the one punch killed the other guy.

I believe that would qualify as "manslaughter by sudden quarrel"

If the State proved pre-meditation which I believe they have, we have nothing to fear. The jurors aren't morons. They remember opening statements and the DT case in chief. If this expert Dr Geffner had so much to say, he should have said it then.

How can the defense now be saying "Heat of passion" When Jodi was never even Jealous? I thought she killed in self defense? Am I missing something?

It seems pretty clear that the jury (at least those who have submitted questions) doesn't buy the self-defense/DV story. I agree with you that crime of passion is ludicrous given all the evidence of premeditation, there may be at least one juror who might find it easier to believe that she just snapped. Hopefully the judge DENIES the motion. Let's not forget that in July 2011 Jodi was willing to plead to second-degree murder but the prosecution turned her down. Her plea offer reads like blackmail/extortion--basically take this offer or I'll destroy Travis on the stand. She wasn't kidding.

If I understand correctly, heat of passion doesn't mean self defense. So the DT now realizes their self defense claim can not stand and change to heat of passion?

The passion of the victim not even being allowed to shower in peace without a fully dressed intruder coming in to start, continue and end a passionate verbal dispute or continue a physical one in which only the dead guy gets wounded.

I watched In Session this morning--realized that without all the sidebars and such---they can cover the whole day (pretty much) in two hours with commercials....says something there!

I also noted that JW really isn't JM---if she were to say she was just being "passionate" for her client--I'd say NO....

To me, I see the DT asking for a surrebuttal case, knowing it's another psychologist, a case of "the lady doth protest too much" and the jury may see it that way as well.
