This was the first roller coaster my son ever rode. I can't believe this happened. I feel awful. My son is also hooked on coasters now. I wonder if it scared him to death. Poor child.

Isnt it so sad. I am still thinking about that poor little boy who jumped off the Ferris Wheel...:(

The rock and roll roller coaster is not for the weak of neck.

Your head needs to be firmly back against that seat and if you don't know thatthat it wil snap around like a wobble head doll on a dash board going 50 down a pitted road and a car with no shocks.

If your neck is not already against the seat when the ride starts you may be lucky enough to put it there before the 2 turn but If you don't your neck could easily be whiplashed.
I am talkin if your an adult of which the face body cover is intended for.
I think it could do grave danger to a child.

I would imagine an excited child would not calmly have their head against the seat. From my own experience on that ride it was very difficult to put my head back after the ride started going.
I did it but my neck was sore for days after.

My guess is that Disney's presumption is the big screen atop of the dark hole you enter when the ride first begins will have everyone looking forward and when the initial thrusts goes it is meant to firmly plant your head back on your seat.

BTW that link above?? It neglects to mention a few more Disney tails..
Like the recent Tiger who was inappropriatly fondling women. (My cousin told him to "get your BLEEEPING hands off of me"
SHe never reported it but a few did and to the police so he was arrested and fired.
There is NO doubt that Disney had recieved complaints before.

Now I don't recall hearing this on the news but it was pretty common knowledge in Florida about 10-11 years ago that people were abducting children from Disney. They would snatch some child drug them and take them into a bathroom and alter their appearance.. For example take a little girl cut off her hair put a pair of sunglasses and a baseball capon her and walk the child right out of the park or carry. ( aww look the park tired HIM out so Daddy is carrying him, isn't that sweet?)
I believe after that Disney implimented some safetly precautions.

Ya know, this just makes me furious! Our bodies are not meant to feel all and handle all of the G's that these rides throw out. So stop making the damned things! :behindbar AND parents need to stop letting their children on them. It is OK to say "NO" on vacation!

Reading from the link, this is the 7th person to die at a Disney attraction since Dec 04! That is just obscene. Especially for what is supposed to be a children's theme park!

I am so sad for this boy right now and his family...

i agree...hey, i love 'rides', fast/high, but only to a point, but something that can 'rattle' my brain is different...

I'm a big :chicken: :chicken: when it comes to roller coasters. At disneyland my idea of a roller coaster is...Thunder Mountain, I love it, if you call it a roller coaster. :D I also like The Bobsled, its fun. Never been on Space Mountain, haven't been able to get myself on it, for some reason. :chicken:

Omg Amraann, remind me to never go to Disneyland!
It was only yesterday my Aunty said to me, well if you go to the states...you must go to Disneyland.
I said to her then, well I doubt it, taking my child to Dreamworld here in Oz was bad enough.
I stressed the whole time that I would lose my child in the crowd.....there are so many people around....and I don't trust people LOL
Then I go and hear something like this.....and my worst fears are compounded.

Something else that I am over the top about is public toilets in shopping centres.
It was only a couple of weeks ago I had words with my son over him going into public toilets by himself....he is old enough now that he finds it embarrasing to go into the womens toilet with me but I'm not sure he is big enough to go into the male ones by himself.
Then I read the newspaper a couple of days ago and my worst fears came true for someone else.
A little 9 or 10 year old went into a toilet by herself in a shopping centre and when she didn't come out after a while, her brother went in to find her and couldn't see her.
She was with her uncle who then went in and found her in a locked toilet, she had been raped and murdered and left lying naked on the toilet floor.
Every parents worst nightmare.
Every time one of my friends thinks I am being paranoid I will remind them of this.

In the malls in my town, there are "family restrooms" located near the men and woman's rooms. It's about four times the size of a handicapped stall, is a room instead of a stall, has the toilet, sink and a bench for your older kids to sit on, a changing table and a place for your stroller.

It was a GodSend when I was babysitting and had six kids with me all the time. You could keep them corralled in the locked room and no one could wander off while you dealt with them seperately. (We had a game where the kids who weren't pottying were not facing the potty while they played the game.)

Oh you have to go to Disneyland at least once.

Most of these issues are all manageable. I've been to D'land so many times and the worst that happened was grumpy kids at 2 am! We have had a lot of fun there. It is smart to take precautions, but sad to let fears keep you from things.
When my kids were small, I just would check the bathroom first make sure it was empty and then keep anyone from goin in until my kids were done. It was only a rare man that was put off when I woldn't let him go in. They would either wait and chat and tell me about when their kids were little or they would go to another restroom. No big deal. Can't pull that off at D'land..but just bring a man or another child to buddy up with.

Did they ever determine the cause of death?
I read on FOX news website that they are scheduled to do an autopsy today...:(
The boys daddy is a green beret, special forces and did his best to save his son. Makes me cry thinking about that...for all of his skills, he still couldn't save him...:(

Prayers for this family...

I had a feeling it would be something like this

Boy Who Died After Riding a Walt Disney World Roller Coaster Had Heart Defect, Autopsy Shows

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The 12-year-old boy who died after riding a Walt Disney World roller coaster had a congenital heart defect, a medical examiner determined Friday.

The autopsy of Michael Russell was done one day after he passed out while riding Disney-MGM's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.

BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN:

Preliminary autopsy results found no injuries, but indicated congenital heart
abnormalities in a 12-year-old boy who died after a Disney ride in Florida,
according to a statement from the medical examiner’s office.

www.cnn.com

Like I said yesterday, USUALLY it turns out that these people that die on these rides had some kind of health problem that was undetected.

congenital - Doesn't that mean he's had it since birth? The mother would have known he had this problem, wouldn't she?

Maybe not, look at all the stories of kids in athletics that suddently die on the football field, basketball court --- it's usually the same kind of thing, some kind of problem that went undetected and those kids have to have physicals before they can play sports.

Not necessarily. This is not uncommon.

Congenital Heart Defects

About 40,000 infants (1 out of every 125) are born with heart defects each year in the United States (1). The defect may be so slight that the baby appears healthy for many years after birth, or so severe that its life is in immediate danger.
