This did not occur in the court but in a small elevator. Someone WAS walking directly in front of her (per the video) but missed her falling. It appeared the security guard behind her attempted to break her fall but was too late.

I think the guard in front of her was holding the elevator door open but the video is so bad it's hard to tell. The fall happened very quickly.

It also looks like she was scratching her palms when she stepped out of the elevator.

I am still not sure exactly why they released, or anyone needed to see the video of KC falling on her face like that? Granted it highlights a potential safety issue with the elevator (sorry, I really don't want to be on ICA's side on anything, but manacle chains getting caught in an elevator gap is a HUGE HUGE safety concern, and all involved are extremely lucky that all it resulted in was a fall and some dental damage), but I am uncomfortable with the amount of play it is getting and will get simply because of the spectacle of this case.

Someone had asked if ICA would be able to plead that she should go without manacles because of this. While the sheriff should certainly not allow any diferent treatment for her specifically, after seeing this OSCO should probably immediately suspend the use of manacles in that building or in any elevator until they know exactly what happened and fix it so it doesn't happen again. Not blaming anyone, what happened was clearly an accident and what that no reasonable person would have expected. But it does highlight a potential previously undetected danger and should be addressed.

Wondering how many inmates have gone up and down in those elevators in the same shackles Casey was wearing without incident over the years. It might have been just a fluke this time but it might also have been an attempt by Casey to avoid the unpleasant courtroom she attempted to be excused from at the previous hearing. To be clear, I am not saying I am glad she fell or deserved it, as neither is true. But we know she did not want to attend these hearings.

I see a huge safety issue as well. It seems KC took the fall for all the future inmates arriving via elevator in chains. No doubt, the protocol for transporting inmates through the elevators will change now. I can't believe it hasn't happened before. The poor guard behind her almost took a nose dive too.

I don't wish harm to come to anyone. I really don't. But, I help to wonder how Casey liked being restrained, then being hurt, and not being able to help yourself...like poor little Caylee had to feel.

Thanks for putting up the screen shots Patty G. Even though the chain appears to be in the gap of the elevator, we can't tell if it was in there before she fell.. as she is laying on the floor the chain can reach that gap but not sure it could have when she was upright. I have been to the hearings and have observed her walking into court and it doesn't appear that the chains reach the floor normally.

It may be the last (inadvertent) act of decency she'll ever perform in her miserable life. Or the first, for that matter.

OK... now I have to stop watching that dark and grainy video so I don't get eye strain. It is so hard to see what happened but I sort of think she caught her toe in that crack of the elevator. Can anyone else see it? I even paused and looked at the video frame by frame at that point but the picture is so dark it's very hard to tell.

Truthfully, I am less concerned for the prisoner and more concerned that the video clears her escort of any negligence.

It's a dark video, but it does look like Casey's chain hung up in the elevator door track. She went down so quick, the guards didn't have time to react. Then one of the guards helps her roll over.

To me, it appears the elevator did not line up with the floor, it stopped short of being level and ICAs toe was caught as she had one foot in the elevator and the other on the floor. MOO. An accident but the safety issue needs to be addressed and repaired asap to avoid future incidents to Anyone.

As Casey crossed over the threshold of the elevator, she takes one step forward and as she lifts her other leg, it creates a slack in the chain, of which got caught up in the threshold.

Yes - the posted a slide show of the video here:
http://www.wftv.com/slideshow/news/23770947/detail.html

And in the 5th and 6th slides as she is falling you can see that the chain is
in the door track at the start of the fall. Also i looks like she landed very briefly on her knees in the sixth frame, which probably prevented worse injury.

The report concluded that the officers were not at fault, but suggested they add to the jail policies that the guards should have a hand on the prisoners arm at all times.
ICA chipped her front tooth, bruised her knee and "busted" her lip. Sounds like she got lots of medical attention. Maybe she got some pain meds, because her written report didn't seem like she was mad.

.

video won't start for me but the slideshow worked
looks like she tripped over her own feet & the guards were quick to come to her aid
doesn't look like anyone can blame them for this

If this turns into a snark thread I'm going to close it just like I did the last one! :snooty:

Sorry, Kimster. I didn't mean to be snarky. I think I would have been mad if I was her - even if it was at myself. I sure get mad at myself when I fall down (a lot :P)
