I just watched the hearing again. This time while viewing this thread... really good.

I have watched the hearing twice now and I think yesterday was a "game changer" for the defense team and ICA!

Hooray! Does this mean you are feeling more positive about the hearing? Because you were sounding "down" and pretty unimpressed after just listening to it on Friday.
I am still "joyful" about the proceedings which for once did not leave me completely frustrated, grinding my teeth and banging my head on my desk. I got my first look at why people say HHJP wears steel tipped boots.

Yes, positively! I now understand and can compute why everyone was so joyful yesterday

Did I just watch circus monkeys fight over a peanut? Her defense team is ridiculous. The judge was not having any of it.

It was amusing to watch Anne try to force the judge to give her money with all her little facts and info. He just smiled and continued to inform her that he is not bound by those guidelines. That was cute.

I realize that Baez has now been denied three times, when he has asked the court to stop KC's jail visitor logs, food orders, phone calls from being made public information. If he asks again and for ?reason to do with Bent the personal phone calls are excluded, would that mean that her previous phone calls to home would be excluded too- all the infamous calls ( the WASTE of time call particularly) and visits we have watched, would they be included in such a ruling?

LALaw, your post sparked a somewhat similar response in me yesterday watching the proceedings. My thought was that as IC sat there immobile as a statue the words "death penalty case" kept being said over and over by all of them including the judge. Wow! That must have had an effect on her somewhere inside her playgirl image. Perhaps the thought, "gosh this is me they are talking about and death penalty over and over". It would give one pause me thinks.

Didn't her lack of emotion during all that post conviction, mitigation discussion solidify in your mind her guilt? It sure did me. I can't for a second imagine sitting through that stone faced if I was innocent and I wouldn't have. They would have dragged me from the court proclaiming my innocence at the top of my lungs.

George also alludes to this in his interview with OCSO:

"... But my sister has had a lot of issues over the years. I'm just wondering of (sic) something skipped somewhere to Casey. I... I don't want to think that."

George doesn't want to think a lot of things. He doesn't want to think he could have raised a daughter who would hurt someone...

George should just go with what he knows in his gut to be true... and quit worrying about what he "doesn't want to think."

:twocents:

Wowzer! I have (temporarily) made it to the end of the thread. I've watched the hearing twice now and plan to watch it again tomorrow for body language and facial expressions.

Not once, but twice, Cheney Mason told the Court that the defense had been mislead by TES who said that there were only 32 searchers who searched Suburban Drive.

Fact is, according to Judge Strickland's order, only those searchers who searched within 200 yard of the site were included in the list.

It is the height of disingenuity to say that... also known as lying.

What he was correct in saying was that the defense discovered 150 searchers or so, 5 or 6 of whom actually searched the actual recovery site.

He also says that they say that the area was dry and there was no body there according to these people.

Poppycock! I prefer to believe those among the original 32 whose depositions we have read.

There were two searchers in the motion filed last year, JJ and LB, who the defense said agreed that the body wasn't there and the land was dry. JJ flipped out and went to the State with his illegally recorded tape. LB is in limbo right now, what with her "illness" and new FL attorney. Oh, and the reports to LE about Jeremy L, the PI.

I have to wonder what 5 or 6 people are ready to take the place of the original two "witnesses"?

Ugh! George is so annoying with his... "I don't want to think this"...or "I don't want to think that"... "I don't want to think that I could have brought someone in to this world that could blah, blah, blah"! Grow up already! Sheesh... none of us WANT to believe a lot of things about the way the world is, and people are... and even what we ourselves are capable of! My God man... pull your large head out of the sand. This is life... did they ALL live like this? Like a family of ostrich' with their heads in the sand? I'm about tired of listening to anything that comes out of his mouth... any of them, for that matter. He is so far removed from the reality that most of us here live in - I'm not sure there is any hope?:furious:

Sorry George... you don't get to CHOOSE what you believe based on the best case scenarios... it aint how life works man... get a grip!

Haha, Frigga.... just saw your post.... after I had posted the same thought!

Great minds... and all that!

I think she's going to do one of her gimmicks by constructing a whoooole recap of casey's life, trying to make her seem human (since her behavior/attitude certainly doesn't), trying to induce guilt into the jury about punishing her, etc.

It reminds me of some of the carp Lyon pulled and we all know how that went over. It's all a manipulative mind game that should have nothing to do with the penalty imo. She was a privileged middle class kid who victimized people her entire life imo. The idea of paying Finnell to go to Ohio is absurd and she should be ashamed for claiming she was "required" to.

She seems to fancy herself as some wise lady who will go to Ohio and suddenly learn all of the keys to Casey's behavior/persona, none of it is her fault, of course, - and then enlighten the barbaric ignorant people like us - as she translates her past to make Casey into the victim.

And IF it's so important, she should just pay out of pocket imo. Human life vs. a trip to Ohio? Priorities, Ann, priorities - you seem to be disingenuous!

I've been thinking about this and you know why it doesn't bother me? Because she won't even speak at trial until ICA is found GUILTY,GUILTY,GUILTY!
AND ,If she has to construct a reason as to why ICA murdered precious Caylee, it means they will basically have to admit that she DID IT,despite dancing around the words because of a future appeal !
So right now I'm actually enjoying AF. She may be on the defense ,but her job is to find mitigating factors in the murder of Caylee by her mother, not to get an innocent verdict.

I thought the same thing - is this woman really medicated, or is she in her own lala land or what the heck is going on? Where was the constant stroking, animation, facial expressions, etc.

Then I watched a news clip with Diane Tennis, who said (and I'm adlibbing here) she was please to see the coaching ICA has been getting is working - because the best thing a defendant can do is to be very very still, so as to almost disappear so the focus is on the lawyers, not on her. In other words, so the jurors would think - what? that bitty thing? They can't be talking about her. Which made me think - hmmm:waitasec:.

Really? Is she that smart and that able to control herself?

If I had to guess....and this is only a guess....I would say KC looks to be taking anti anxiety medication. She does look a bit glazed over at times, yet is able to interact with her counsel.

Her previous grooming, hand wringing, hair smoothing, scratching, and quick eye movements clearly demonstrated her stress level and IMO some underlying OCD compulsions.

One can not "coach away" tics. I think she is probably on a daily medication or at a minimum taking meds prior to court.

Again JMO.

I was wondering about that myself.... did she seem medicated or was she just following advice on how to behave?

Unless she is heavily medicated at trial, it is my opinion that KC will not be able to just sit there day after day, week after week, and not revert back to what comes naturally... fidgeting, primping, etc. I also don't think she will be able to control her facial expressions when she is angry because she's having to listen to something she doesn't like. I don't care how much coaching she receives!

Yes, I completely agree! I still think that at times during the trial, her anger will be stronger than any anti-anxiety meds she might be on....

Was it just me or did anyone else notice that after JP told Finnell about the deadline on the mitigation witness list she was gone...I kept looking for her when the camera panned to the defense table but she was not there...Why would 1 attorney up and leave the other 2 still sitting there, would it not look as though she was actually part of the defense if she waiting until the hearing was complete and left the courtroom with the other attorneys and her client....I bet she was so pizzed that all she could think about was get me out of here before I go off on JB and CM, I bet there were someone colorful words used when she did speak to JB the next time...

Is it even proper protocol to leave without being excused by the judge? I have noticed the media and JAC attorneys always ask to be excused before leaving.

I just now finished watching the hearing. Wow. Just wow. Baez looked uncomfortable and actually at some times looked totally annoyed and embarassed by Mason. CM blathers on and I could not hear half of what he said. They speak off to the side and the way he turns and laughs and speaks to the baliffs is annoying at least to me. I think JB knows it is getting tougher and tighter. Good...it is about time. The thing about ICA...I had a full screen up and at no time when the words "remains" or "victim" were said she never blinked not that first time. Amazing. That should have been like a knife twisting in her heart. I cannot imagine it.

<Respectfully snippped>

I think the real underlying problem is they HAVE NO DEFENSE. Which I guess is not their fault, it is their client's fault because she did it.

Very interesting hearing.

A hint of the trial to come? JP elluding to the fact that the defense has nothing to go on, and are as likely at finding something as striking oil. Nice.

BBM Which may explain HHJP's curious 'compliment' to the defense at the end of the hearing that they are doing an excellent job. IOW, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as they say.

Brilliant Summary of yesterday's hearing:

Casey Anthony's Lawyers: Uncomfortable Day In Court
http://tinyurl.com/23vxpdr

Thanks nums! ITA Brilliant summary and spot on!

This is one of the parts that cracked me up - *snipped*

"The judge, as patient as a second-grade teacher leads Jose Baez through a word problem. He gave him money to obtain public records and when we get public records we have them ____. (The correct answer is COPIED). Baez continues acting dazed and confused until the judge tells him he is playing WORD GAMES. (Clearly, the judge isn't pleased with that at all.)
Judge: "Playing word gymnastics"

I also LOVED the description of the TES searchers who have been targeted by the PI as being "Lyonized"!
