New Developments Expected In Zahra Baker Investigation

A grand jury met briefly Monday afternoon to discuss possible new charges against Elisa Baker, Zahra's stepmother. The grand jury will meet again Tuesday, which is also when Elisa Baker is scheduled to be arraigned on an obstruction of justice charge and have a bond reduction hearing.

Channel 9 has also learned that a judge could look at whether to unseal more search warrants in the case as early as Wednesday.

Elisa Annette Baker
Baker, 42, has been in the Catawba County jail since Oct. 10 when she was arrested on several outstanding warrants unrelated to her stepdaughter Zahra’s death and dismemberment.

Baker was also charged with obstruction of justice two days later when she admitted to Hickory police that she’d written the ransom note demanding $1 million.

She is scheduled to appear on the obstruction of justice charge Jan 4. and throughout the remainder of the month on an assortment of charges unrelated to Zahra.




Adam Troy Baker
Baker, 33, was arrested on Oct. 25, 2010 – 16 days after he reported his daughter Zahra missing. He was charged with writing worthless checks, communicating threats and assault, but none of his charges were related to Zahra’s death.

Two days later, Baker bonded out of jail.

Dates and charges:

Jan. 21: Catawba County, four counts of worthless checks

Jan. 27: Caldwell County, five counts of worthless checks, failure to return rented property, two counts of communicating threats and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

From the warrants one of EBs alias names is Dawn Michelle Church.
Found five filings under that name, two dropped out as jane does.
Most recent was last summer and appeared to have a trial date this month.
Pulled the docket and it is still live, under the alias, and a bad address.

Seems that EB has accrued two more worthless check charges. She is now up to 18 charges against her. These latest charges are listed here, and have a court date showing of 02/15/2011.

She is also scheduled to appear in court on the 27th of this month for the following charges:

Indictment against Elisa Baker could come this afternoon.


Looks like the GJ must have met today. Im still new to this whole court thing. Will they look at the whole case at a time or do they look at peoples involvement seperatly?

JMO I think the continuances are the courts way of assuring AB stays in the country and EB stays right where she is.

This is in reguards to something posted in the bigamy thread but was afraid it was too OT to post there. ( trying to stay on topic is getting hard for me lol)

If EB was able to make bail the judge said her case would go under review before it was granted. It doesnt sound to me like she will be getting out even if she does post bail. I just wonder if bail was posted if they would charge her with something, anything to do with Zahras death to make sure she stays put. JMO
