2010.12.15 Dr Jane Bock Report & CV

Bock stated that the the picture showing plant growth on the blanket was not roots growing through the blanket but across the suerface if the blanket.
Bock stated that at the mortuary she looked at 2 or 4 bones with her hand lerns, and touched two of them. She thought that root growth was attached, didn't measure roots or take samples of them. Her summary of that visit was simply "how small the skeleton was".
That was Caylee Marie, those early LE and ME pictures were what was left of Caylee Marie. This trial is supposed to be about Caylee Marie. What happened to her we will only know that it was homicide by undetermined means. How long did she lie in a swampy place before her body was desecrated, disected and carried off by scavenging critters. Now Caylee Marie is being attacked again, this time by defense lawyers who behave like scavengers and vultures as they try to minimize her very short existence here on earth. How very very sad.
IMO

Go back and start at the 6:25 min mark...it shows up better...pavers, log, well logs..
.he sure goes back and forth..pavers, logs, pavers, logs..zooms in

DC is fixated on the pavers and logs or certain trees..
There is soooo much dense vegetation...

Yes, at 6:22 pm I believe whats-his-name who was operating the video camera starts down the path where the remains were found--you can see what I think could be the yellow Kindercare sign kind of scrunched over on the left side of the path. The log is just a little ways down the path. Then he focuses on the pavers on the left side of the path (6:30).

Thx LolaMoon for luring me to this thread with your question in the Lawyers' thread. :)

I think we should locate the thread where we discuss the crime scene photos that way we don't go O/T on this thread...
off to locate it...

Haven't found it yet but I did find this thread on Forensic Botany...good to have to read with this thread.

Forensic Botany

FOUND and BUMPED Crime Scene Photo Thread #3..there are links to threads 1 and 2

Thanks Intermezzo for pointing out where to go next. I feel like I've been following you the last few days, but you do know your way around this material. I just finished looking at hours of photos of the remains site. I can see FL plant life is very different than other states.

I don't see any pavers in the crime scene photos, but the pink blanket is there. Also the sign on the ground in the video is different than the daycare sign on the crime photos. The video sign says Summer Camp and is white. The daycare sign says Sit and ???? and is bright yellow.

I'm looking at a piece of yellow paper in the video at 6:22. But it is not sitting squarely and neatly at the start of the path like it is in the crime scene photos--it is scrunched to the left of the path near the bottom right of the screen.

I just want to say that I have resisted viewing the DC tape until tonight and Wow what can I say. What in the name of all that is Holy was he doing mucking around there ATPIT.

Of course, I had read numerous posts and accounts of the tapes, just had actually not wanted to see it (I guess).

I am not even going to state the obvious at this juncture.

P.S. This deposition transcript makes me ill. How could you Casey, how could you?

Well, he was definitely close because he picked up the pink blanket with the hole in it that was taken into evidence. Could it be CA recognized the pink blanket and maybe the Pooh balloon and that is why she seemed like a zombie in the November interview? Sure wish I knew what DC testified to but maybe we will find out after the trial.

OK, after wading through these.... I have a question. In the second report listed above (which seems to have taken place prior to the first) on page 52 the following exchange occurs. (The "setting" is Dr. Bock describing any concerns she had with Dr. Hall's report).

"Bock: I did not see, and still have not seen, the layers of leaves on the bags that supposedly would indicate the bags have been at that spot for at least since the leaves fell during the fall of 2008.

Ashton: Have you requested of defense counsel that you be provided with those photographs?

Bock: Yes, I have asked to see those photographs. And I've been given whatever was available. And - well, I've been given whatever was available."

Ok here's my question, if I can manage to spit it out coherently enough to be understood. Did the defense purposely have her write her report and make conclusions without ever providing her with those initial crime scene photos? Because it seems like all she was working with was the scene as it was found after the body had been recovered, the site was cleared, etc. :waitasec: And then when they resumed the deposition (what is referred to as part 1 above) they are discussing with her the photos of the actual crime scene with the body present as it was found. It appears that she had not seen those until the deposition. This seems really odd to me, but it could absolutely be that I am "missing something" here. Help??

I am sure that HHJP will not tolerate this BS in his courtroom. I hope he throws all of these clowns out! This is certainly an insult to HHJP's courtroom, to HHJP, and to justice, but mostly an insult to precious Caylee.:sick::sick:

Sorry Tallyho, I know I didn't help with your questions. I just had to get that out. sorry for the rant.

Thank you, :blushing:

I try my best...many times I forget

I'm bringing DC's video over to this thread because I have found what I believe is significant.

5:25-5:45 is the time in this video that is of interest.

@ 5:25 - we can see the pavers

@ 5:32 he pans over and it looks like what could be described as a log.

@ 5:43 you again see the pavers (which, imo, look like they have been slightly moved since seeing them a few seconds prior) and what I believe is the canvas laundry bag under or slightly under the pavers and just crazy amounts of plant growth.

Watching this again sends chills down my spine. So close. I forget, will jurors get to see this DC video?

I just re-read parts of Cindy's State deposition. The State definitely questions her about DC & the tape. If it's discussed in a deposition it can be used at trial, right?

IMO Way tooo much interference/interruption from her..

She Objects citing work product JUST to Object..at one point she said she does know if the answer is work product or not..but is Objecting anyway.

Sims is objecting to photos being produced and that she has not seen...
Ashton informs her that, pursuant to court order, the photos were already produced...she then says Oh, never mind then..

Jeff Ashton is pulling up Photos
Sims states she doesn't have those photos and asks Ashton if they can be emailed to her.
Ashton "It's a huge file. I'm surprised Jose didn't give them to you for this (meaning the depo)

On a more positive note, I was relieved to get to the end of her depo and concluded she's a terrible expert witness for the defense and no match for Dr Hall at all ... IMO she's not much of a botanist expert at all ...

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that these were the actual crime scene and autopsy photos and Sims is asking Ashton to just email them to her ??? WTH? Shouldn't Jose have given Sims these protected files?
I'm assuming these were the ones that originally Jose was supposed to set up a secure server for but wasn't capable of so Judge Strickland set up another method for them to be put on CDs and hand delivered (I thought) to his experts ... Now, they've got them at a depo, broadcasting them over WebEx to Boch and Sims not knowing for sure if anyone is even in the room with either of them much less if their individual networks are secure ... again, WTH?

I'm pretty sure this was NOT how these photos were supposed to be handled and it make me ill even thinking about these being leaked, albeit, unintentionally .... :noooo:

Yes, there was a whole hearing about that as you indicate..I wonder, during the trial, will the pics be shown on an overhead? The thought of seeing poor Caylee's skull with vines up to her eye socket is sickening for me, not to mention GA, CA, and the great grandparents etc...

Yes, I was bothered and IMO, Yes Baez should of given her the File that held all the documents that pertained to this Depo...
It sounded more like she was attending the Depo just to say "I Object" ..until Baez shows up.

I had some more tears for Caylee Marie when I read and then eventually sped thru these two depos. Poor Ashton had to tolerate interruptions, rudeness and sarcasm from both JB and DS of the dream team defenders. Ashton had to re-word several questions in order to get a biologically acceptable response from Bock.
This so-called expert report is such a farce. This woman admitted to never having conducted or viewed any actual skeletons with plant growth. She did, however, feel qualified, as when she was young she saw plants growing through chicken bones in her mother's mulch pile. She referred to some plant growth as "not happy" or "happy" in some pictures of the crime scene. She stated that she lived in Florida all her life, then changed that to an accumulation of two years, which is questionable at that. She would never consult with a Forensic Biologist, or whatever? Why? Because she is a plant expert, no need for other expert opinions in other fields, or something to that effect. I wonder how this can qualify as an opinion and make it through to the trial. Perhaps JB will get smart and withdraw this witness.

And talking about turtles she studied and locating corpses ... I was dumbfounded ... and she was pretty clear that she was a botanist, not a forensic botanist ....
She DID however, stay at a Holiday Inn once ... what a joke ... I don't think we have to worry about THIS witness

That would explain the depo... I can't believe she's being held out as an expert.

Why would JB hold her out as an "expert"? IIRC, she was free, unpaid. She even covered her own travel expenses on the way back from a vacation, in order to stop and do this. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

From her website:
Prof. Bock has a serious side interest in forensic botany. Since 1982 she has worked with Dr. D. O. Norris on developing the use of plant cells in the gastrointestinal tract to aid in homicide investigations. I'm not sure this qualifies her, as to figure out what plants were in one deceased persons GI tract, she chewed up different vegetables, and comparedher chewed up veggies, to those in the victim's stomach. Not exactly a controlled scientific experiment, to say the least.

On a more positive note, I was relieved to get to the end of her depo and concluded she's a terrible expert witness for the defense and no match for Dr Hall at all ... IMO she's not much of a botanist expert at all ...

I'm sure Sims will use the excuse that she didn't know about the prior instructions since she wasn't on board then.....This defense seems to use that line quite often...they also don't seem to work as a "team"--they all seem to be the "I" and we all know that that there is no "I" in "team"....:innocent: As for the leaking that is what the SA was worried about ..... That was why as an "officer of the court" jb PROMISED that he would follow the directions of who and how they would be delivered....guess---he's moved along with that one!:banghead:

They do seem to try to distract JA alot during this---several times he had to remind Sims it was HIS questions...
