IMO, CM is the rodeo clown that was brought in from retirement to deflect attention away from JB and perhaps get to ICA before the trial to talk some sense into her if there is any chance at all of a plea. I have it on good authority that it was AL who called him up and asked him to help. Which I think she did so that JB wouldn't botch this any further than he already has with all his nonsense about RK and other ridiculously feeble red herrings he designed to manufacture reasonable doubt where none exists instead of just concentrating on mitigation which any moron would see is her only real opportunity to escape death. CM is supposed to be excellent on cross. And allegedly he and HHJP are on pleasant enough terms to play golf from time to time. Since there is virtually nothing left of JB's original "dream team" I'm sure that even the prosecution is grateful she has a real attorney on the team so that her defense doesn't degenerate even further. However, CM's courtroom comments on aging and strategy are wearing a bit thin, as is his combative stance against KB - he should know by now that the general public loves her. His tactics just smack of desperation.
Frankly, I think any perceived reticence on HHJP's part is simply making sure that there are absolutely no appealable issues and this case ends with a verdict that is hermetically sealed in bullet-proof plastic. He is making sure this is all textbook clean is all.
The fact that ICA, her joke of an attorney and her opportunistic family took a simple case and made a lucrative reality show from it is a done deal.
I get the feeling that lot of this posturing back and forth is simply jurisprudence showmanship like a legal version of WWWF. I think both sides now realize they are about to have a national spotlight on them and the long-suffering public deserves an actual show. Criminal attorneys are partly frustrated actors I truly believe. Closet thespians, lol.
CM is asking for everything but the kitchen sink to be thrown out (which is simply a check-the-box routine so that no stone is left unturned and Miss Casey cannot whine later about ineffective counsel). The fact he and the judge are being so circumspect makes me think they are preparing for an inevitable DP sentence. Instead of being frustrated by their absurd requests, I am glad it shows that somebody is taking the steps to dot the i's and cross the t's for this defense so it all doesn't blow up later.
World According, I'm not sure whether his disrespect for LDB is gamesmanship or simply old-fashioned chauvinism. His big ego has gotten him into hot water before (ie: the Texas law student that sued him over false claims he made in a prior trial where he bet a million bucks his defendant couldn't have travelled to the murder scene in the time frame). He is starting to remind me of the Foghorn Leghorn version of Denny Crane...But often criminal defense attorneys are drama queens. I guess they sort of have to go overboard a bit to even get a jury to listen to them.
In other words, I trust HHJP's knowledge of the law and that, while his steady demeanor may deprive us of the fireworks or visual smackdowns we'd like to see, he is always thinking about the long view in this case and will do nothing to risk having Anthony or her team score points on technicalities. In the end, justice for Caylee may rest on things that may not make for good courtroom drama but are all about insuring a verdict that sticks.
