I am the only that is still mad that JB got off with a simple "apologize to your friends." tell them you will never do that again, judge". Oh no! not ever again! promise!" I thought this judge was tough as nails? what happened?

As someone else who is also fed up with Baez' antics, I very much understand how you feel, but part of justice in the court is to "temper it with mercy" whenever possible, particularly when handling issues of Officers of the Court.

Both sides found and agreed to a way to handle this without severe punishment, and Judge Perry has his eye on the main focus of what is yet to be, months of an amicable (hopefully), smooth trial preparation and the trial itself.

We may not like it, but given the full focus, this was the "better" resolution.

To me, and knowing Baez' arrogance, this apology was painful to make and hurt him, believe me.

The end result will be that Baez loses his case, so take comfort in that. ;)

So it would appear that this issue relating to the showing cause motion

That was my impression.

For the sake of justice, I will take the apology today at face value until given a reason not to. An adversarial environment was not/is not conducive to justice, so I truly hope this was sincere.

redkatrampant: As to "stoner JB" -- I hope "he" passes sooner than lunch during a hearing!

Just caught a blip that Nancy Grace is going to be "breaking the Casey Case down" tonight for those of you that are up to it.

It's Friday, that means that Jean Casarez will be hosting. Which means lots of factual errors and slanted heavily toward the defense...

Last night when the story got bumped, I had a feeling they would have something tonight..I hope they don't have LP on. Hey, maybe Lee's attorney..they've had him on before!

OMG--looks like CM is practicing John Waters' "The Creep" dance!!!

Well DH is off to a hockey game tonite, so If Jean is hosting I may actually tune in...

I watched streaming and InSession TV today (all three days) and I will admit that heretofore it sure seemed like a heavy defensive slant. But in the last couple days it seemed to me that the worm had turned. Additionally, Jean seemed to have a decent grasp of the case. I really thought a good deal of the commentary over the last couple days (even if I didn't like it) was valid and mostly on point.

Having said that, I am almost guaranteeing I will have to eat my words.

I have to say....that I was shocked by JB's performance in the courtroom. He did much better than I expected. Well, except for when he almost pierced attorney/client veil in open court....but these 3 days were not as painful for me to watch as the past motion hearings were. He didn't bumble as much. He has obviously been attending "How to Be a Lawyer" classes somewhere. Guess $250K buys more than suits and matching pocket squares....Good for KC....good for appeals....I pray he keeps this up. For Caylee's sake.

After having watched 3 days of this, it is really glaring to be watching the rather transparent experience levels of the lawyers involved. Above and beyond the parade of bullplop that was G and C's testimony, the style and approach of each lawyer was very telling.

probably the biggest thing to see is just how practically inexperienced JB is. I don't even mean it as a reflection on his preparredness or his other typical issues. The problem was with his style of questioning and presentation. In everything he did for three days he was playing to the jury. But there was no jury. It was clearly apparent that he was taught how a lawyer presents in court, and that is the one way that he knows. Either that or he learned everything he knows from watching old Matlock reruns. But his entire presentation his style, his questions, the way he kept subtly repeating or getting his witnesses to repeat certain words, was an attempt to manipulate a pool of laypeople, unfamiliar with the details or what is being presented and hence prone to subtly pick up on those key words. I honestly don't think even JB is consciously familiar that he is doing this. It's more this is how he learned to question witnesses so that is how he does it, without any thought to the actual purpose or who is listening.

Contrast that with LDB, who seemed to fully realize at every turn that her only audience for these 3 days was the judge. A man who is not a layperson, and has spent a lifetime detecting bullplop being spit out by witnesses and lawyers. her presentation was geared towards that single knowledgeable observer. Witness answers were kept short and direct. Questions were kept tight. presentation was as from a lawyer to a judge, not as from a lawyer to a jury. It's a subtle but very powerful difference.

It is even more noticeable when you watch CM, who's every word and action is pretty much directed towards or performing for the judge. he gets it. He understands who he is presenting to. he understands the difference between motions hearings and trial.

The only defendant that I remember Jean Casarez wanted prosecuted was Michael Jackson.

I dont an opinion one way or another about baez's "punishment" is regards as to whether he deserved worse or what not, and although he sounded like my kids caught doing something wrong and apologising for it, I do think I would have much more respect for the man if he were more like this the whole way through.

dear mr baez:

you dont know me, I'm one of those "bloggers" you dont much care for. maybe my opinion matters little if at all to you, but I would like to tell you as one human being to another, that your attitude and manner of speaking, and the articulation with which you spoke today to HHJP and the the State Attorneys was a much more effective way than your normal one. please take into consideration that you seem much more professional and competant which speaking as you spoke that speech today. I know I'm a sap that likes everyone (mostly) and cries at everything (even GA shedding a single tear set me off for 20 minutes) but it may matter to you that someone somewhere thinks you could do a good job in the future, much better than you have bothered thus far, if you put this kind of effort into your work.

sincerely, 2goldfish (actually plecos now but too late to change :biglaugh:)

For me there was a palpable change in everyone, but especially in JB and his ability to be professional; today after JB warned that the discussions would stop now or suffer his wrath. In particular when he held up a copy of RULES FOR DECORUM and said he has a copy for all.

They came back from that break that followed with a "New attitude."
Pivotal moment, IMHO.

So when do we find out the ruling about the Miranda rights/handcuffs, etc.?

I'm sure this has been discussed, but Cindy testified that she never knowingly or willingly assisted LE in building a case against Casey.
Really, Cindy?
Should I begin to count the ways?
I'll start with that VM to Sgt. Allen, where she said "No matter what you think, Casey had to have had help."

I am convinced that the manner of Casey's clothes and dress is a ploy to look frumpy and poor. There is no reason she can not appear without a wrinkled up shirt or another jacket ..this make no sense to me at all ...

I figure, it's cold in the courtroom and she won't give up JB's letterman sweater.
Hair in a greasy bun..
Too bad she can't take a refreshing and beautifying bubble bath at a moments notice. A shampoo swirly in her cell might help..
Like the tattoo on her back, The Beautiful Life is forever behind her..
Totally mean of me and OT ...ahem

Love the proffesionalism of LDB
Cindy seemed quite tame compared to her performance yesterday..
Perhaps her son set the bar for proper conduct, shamed her ego..or not.

Thanks to everyone and all your hard work!
P.S. Psmith, is the P silent in Puddy Tat?
If so, I've been pronouncing it wrong all these years..

So when do we find out the ruling about the Miranda rights/handcuffs, etc.?

Miss Sims asked to submit a written filing to the judge before he rules - so she said she would get that to him by Monday. JA said he will respond by Tues. The judge had implied/said he wanted to get things (I took it as the rulings) by Friday.

Back in court on Monday - Oh yippie!?!?!

Wonderful and particularly the last ones I sang all the way through!

Here a thwart, there a thwart, everywhere a thwart thwart!

Thwarted, thwarthhenceforth, thwartinations thwartifications, thwartly! Thwartalongwithme! Thwarthimtothemoon....

Good times!:great:

So when do we find out the ruling about the Miranda rights/handcuffs, etc.?
I was just wondering that as well. I just finished watching YM's testimony...and the final "denied" of JP's rang loud in my ears (when LDB asked for questions to be stricken). I hope that the judge realizes the timeline of events...that Casey was arrested after tracking down her "leads". YM came on the scene late in the game (after the handcuffing episode)...it was his resposnibility to hear everything firsthand before making a decision. He probably did suspect he wasn't hearing the truth...but how could he have known that an initial call about a stolen car would lead to the murder of a precious child. IMHO he believed that he was faced with one stubborn and strong willed young lady who was playing games with her mother.
