Baez Answers Questions At Media Event

ORLANDO, Fla. --Baez, took questions from a group of Hispanic journalists on Wednesday, just days before Casey Anthony's trial.

No cameras were allowed inside.

Defense is also waiting on key rulings if the air tests from Casey's car trunk will be admitted to trial.

The latest order came from a panel of judges who are deciding whether a petition filed by media outlets, that do not include WFTV, have a right to know before the trial, where the jury will come from.

Casey's trial date was set for May 9, but now, it's up in the air.

The Fifth District Court of Appeal panel is giving Chief Judge Belvin Perry, prosecutors, defense lawyers and the State Attorney General until Friday morning at 10:00am, to weigh in on the media outlet's challenge.

WFTV was told they were considering the matter on Wednesday afternoon, behind closed doors. A "2 to 1" or unanimous vote carries.

Much closer to the courthouse, members of the public who want to attend the trial can start lining up at 5:30 a.m. each day for a limited number of seats available inside the courtroom.

"If there's 50 people in line or more, of course, the first 50 people, or however many seats are available that day, will receive a seating pass for the day," Stucker said.

Lippman has filed a motion asking for the judge to allow a video visit between Casey and her parents that would not handed out to the media afterward.

Of course, the prosecution would still get to see it, which makes it highly unlikely Casey's defense team -- or Casey, herself -- would allow such a visit to take place.

Casey Anthony: Analysts see little hope for media petition

Retired Circuit Judge O.H. Eaton Jr., the legal analyst for WESH, didn’t see likely success for the media companies. “The petition has to show that Judge Perry has not followed the law, and secondly, they have to show there’s irreparable harm as a result of it,” Eaton told Bob Kealing. “That’s a pretty high mountain to climb, and these petitions are generally denied.”

How Casey Anthony judge plans to handle protesters

ORLANDO -- The judge issued orders Wednesday about how the public can get a seat at the trial, as well as rules for those protesting at the Orange County Courthouse.

Protesters will be allowed outside the courthouse. But the judge's order will limit exactly where they can protest.

Starting now and up through July 15, there are two "free speech zones" along Orange Avenue, where people are allowed to gather.

Livingston Street to the semicircle in front of the courthouse
Amelia Street to the other side of the semicircle

No one will be allowed to hold protests or press conferences on courthouse property -on the steps of the courthouse, or anywhere close to the courthouse."



County officials will mark the free speech zones with red and yellow tape.

Court administrators said that the jury will not enter the courthouse through the main entrance. The jury will be sequestered and will not be able to see any protests when they come into court.

Casey's Parents Want Recorded Visits Sealed

If the jail allowed private visits, it would be special treatment for the Anthonys.

The Anthonys' attorney said they don't even know whether Casey wants them to visit, but if she does, they want the visits to be private.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said that's probably not possible.
