Bit O/T but just saw the ticker that Minnie and Mickey Mouse were arrested out in front of Disney. Can you believe this? Not sure which Disney it is tho'. What's the world coming to?

Mickey and Minnie ????

<thud>

Maybe the Rapture REALLY IS Saturday?

I suggest we all adopt the 10 strikes rules.

Everyone starts the day with 10 OMGs, WTFs, What a Waste, and Did he just say, use them wisely for when they are gone you will be forced to sit on your hands for the rest of the day and simply enjoy the proxy WTFs of others.....LOL

Oh and I suggest a limit of a max of 3 !!!'s.

I nominate today as KTS Day (Kind To Server)....

Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oops

So, if he brings in another panel and had to read the charges that's an hour. Then we still have how many to question? Then hardships and starting with the new 30 and then he thinks he's going to swear the jury in at 2:30-3pm tomorrow? And we have 1 1/2 hour lunch breaks? What happened to yesterday's rant about if he brought in 2000 the DT would want to question them and this process could go on forever?

My prediction: The DT will use their strike, but it won't matter because male teacher is slated to take the place of that person (HHJP already instructed the court about that). SA will not use their strikes.

The 30 coming in, HHJP said he is going to read the charges and not ask individually about hardships, but rather as a group. He said that will be like a virus in a plane...when one hand goes up, the rest will...and that will leave about 3 or 4, and of those - they probably have been reading the news the last few days. He basically inferred "good luck with that jury pool." ;)

I believe there are 4 jurors left who have already been read the charges and instructed. They will be questioned first this afternoon and combined with the leftover 1 that we have, there will be 5 potential alternates. It is up to the judge how many alternates. I think he will pick 3, myself, or even 2. (People generally WANT to be on this jury, IMO). They will be chosen tomorrow.

Judge will swear in the jury tomorrow afternoon, and the jury and alternates will leave for Orlando on Sunday with trial to start on Monday.

So I am wondering how I would answer these DP questions. I absolutely believe that it has a place in our judicial system and I think that I could vote for it in the right circumstances. If evidence shows the facts here as clearly as we are hoping then this would be a situation where I would be able to vote DP. However, I keep thinking that I am really hoping for LWOP because that will prevent her from gaining a cult following and also will pull the platform out from under CA and GA as I am so tired of hearing from/about them. Guess I sound odd to believe it should be one way but actually hope it is the other way. As long as she is convicted of 1st degree murder of a sweet innocent toddler who loved her and depended upon her for survival, I will be happy.

You know, this would be a great discussion thread if we all weren't so wrapped up in this jury selection. I am one to quickly say "they need to fry" whenever I hear about people like John Couey, or Eliza Baker. However, when I stop, really stop and place myself on a jury, I don't know that I could be responsible for putting somebody to death. I don't know. I haven't really explored too deeply on that one. It's something to think about.

I admit I am a person who does not know if they can vote for the death penalty. I have no problem with people not understanding that, I don't know what I understand about that. I am a person with STRONG opinions usually, so it is weird to me to not feel one way or the other about something so "important."

I was always in the position that I was not comfortable sitting in judgement of others, but I did not understand(until this jury selection process)there were instructions to the letter of the law about what gets weighed and what does not, what factors.

I did not know it was like that, I thought it was more a straight vote: guilty or not guilty.

Although, I would have said that I was "not for" the dp, when I heard about cases in the news where the person was guilty for hurting people in terrible ways, and they got the death penalty...I was not upset. It did not and does not make me lose sleep that guilty people are put to death. I admit I am glad that it was not me who had to make that decision.

If I accepted to be on a jury, and there was a victim and the evidence showed they were indeed a victim of that defendant and the vote was for death-because I had accepted to be on the jury I would vote for death.

If I was uncomfortable at all, I would do whatever I could to not be on the jury.

I post this as fyi, to give maybe some insight to the same type of juror, the type who says they are "against" or unsure about the dp.

I have also always said that I feel it is the right of the victim's family/loved ones to have any justice they see fit. This is also why I felt that unless I had such a terrible thing happen to me how can I know what I would want to happen to that person.

There are some families that say they do not want the killer of their loved one to be put to death. I admire that, because in the case of someone I love being killed-I can't say I wouldn't want them put to death. :dunno:

So, maybe that helps. I know I would not be the type anyone would want on a jury for those reasons, and I agree. That's why I am just a :websleuther:

Okay, had to look up zeitgeist as not a commonly used word here :)

Depends on your definition of typical - what you see as typical or how the rest of the world sees the "typical America"?

If you count those excused for hardships then yes I do thinks its a fairly well balanced cross section of society, although I didn't see any society types.

I'm not sure you can compare the answers the jurors are giving with those of Australians as we don't have the death penalty - although I will say there are some who would like to see it brought back but those people are generally thought to be a rabid minority.

I'm not speaking for all Aussies just the ones in my social circle.

Thanks Darnudes (and everybody!)

It seems that our media quite often likes to tell us that the rest of the world regards us as, well gosh, typical "Ugly Americans" - bad manners, self-righteous, often bigoted and ignorant. I think there are also assumptions regarding "southerners" (despite nearly PJ being a yankee by birth). So I was interested to see whether the answers they've given have surprised anyone.

I'm from the UK and visited Florida in 2009. I immediately fell in love with Americans. So polite and welcoming. I don't know what a typical American is but the people we met were lovely. I love the lingo when y'all say y'all and little things like that. When a waitress says good morning mam, I LOVE IT! And I could not believe how every single person says your welcome whenever someone says thank you. I would pack up and move in a heartbeat if I could. Maybe it was the Disney vibe and everyone is so happy, I don't know but I can't wait to go back next year.

I am a native Floridian, born in Orlando and except for a brief time in my childhood, raised in Seminole County, FL (just up the road from Orlando. I currently live between Orlando and Daytona Beach.

Thank you for your kind words. :tyou:

Ya'll come on back anytime!

ETA: I don't have an accent but here in Central Florida you hear "warsh" for wash, "fifty-cent" instead of fifty cents, little things like that. But we do not have a thick Southern accent like in Alabama where my beloved grandmother was raised. She would say things like "Ya'll reckon it's gonna rain?" "I done fixed ya'll some collards fer dinner" and my personal favorite "Honey, your Mama done ruined that baby by spoiling her so much!" I miss her so.

Well Oh My Goodness. WTH didn't we do it that way to start with? We would have been done by now, :floorlaugh: It just seems to me the DT is getting their way toooooooooooo much and JP needs to get complete control back. IDK.

I live in Canada and have spent time recently in Florida. I have NEVER met so many polite, friendly people. It was an awesome experience and I miss those people.

ITA I am an american expat, moving back home next year and the wait :waiting: is killing me, I am soooooo homesick :anguish: :sigh:

In a perfect world...
We can only hope! LOL!!!

BBM - Wait, where are we in the pics????????

I had a meeting this morning and missed JS. I definitely need an intervention because I couldn't get my mind off what was going on here. This is a terrible addiction and I blame you Casey Anthony. OK so it's kind of like an alcoholic blaming the wine cellar but still.

I'm so thankful for PattyG getting the videos on so fast. Going to catch up now.

I think Hizhonor is hoping that another 3 or 4 will take care of bidness. I can see this working with 3 alts, and he has the court room until Saturday evening. :)

I'd sure like to see about 6 alternates. This is a long trial and jurors could have a health issue or a family emergency and have to be excused.

Lol, the first time I went to France, I think I insulted the waiter by trying to get the bill after we had finished eating. He ignored us for half an hour before he finally came and slammed the bill on the table. After that, we made sure to set aside at least an hour and a half for every meal we wanted to eat in a restaurant.

I love London and would move there tomorrow if I could afford it.

Awwwwe. :tyou: We'd love to have you!

It is very telling that PJs that have heard about this case usually say they feel she is guilty. ICA needs to understand that once the trial starts ALL the Jurors will hear the case. ICA is not going to like the outcome.

i believe there is something wrong with saying, "I absolutely can impose the death penalty (I'm a 10)" and saying, "I have no opinion on the death penalty."

if you are willing to impose the dp, then you have an opinion about it. period. whether or not you can say what that opinion might be is another issue altogether, and one you avoid, if you deny having it in the first place.

in my opinion.

lolamoon8, you said (in a closed thread):

And I'm not sitting on a witness stand on the spot. I don't know if I would be able to think on the spot like that. I believe in the DP 100% and I would say a 10 too. There's nothing wrong with believing in the DP and never being in the situation to make a decision based on facts whether or not you hold and opinion to what warrants the DP.

I understood exactly what she was saying.

omg i really am getting tired of the talking heads. All of the focus on the rights of the accused.
Caylee, Caylee, Caylee! Its about her, right?? Hers is the life that was snuffed out. im a little bummed about the process. sorry for my rant.
At least ng puts her first no matter how people feel about her.
IMO, it's about State of Florida vs. Casey Anthony. And KC is still living and has rights that as a citizen, have to be protected.

Caylee can't have justice if her accused killer's rights are trampled upon.

KC is innocent until proven guilty, which means that her rights are just as undeniable as any other citizen's.

My own opinions...

Perhaps a lawyer can educate us on the matter.
