with video and illustration of how high the surge will be.

"The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay is trying to show Florida residents exactly why Hurricane Milton could be so dangerous.

The storm, which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, is forecasted to bring “historic life-threatening storm surge” to parts of central Florida — higher than the storm surges from Hurricane Helene, the NWS said.

On a long ruler against its building, the NWS marked the average seven-foot storm surge from Helene and the 10-foot forecasted storm surge for Milton."

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency is encouraging evacuees to travel further north into Albany, Columbus, Macon and Atlanta areas to keep them away from the storm-ravaged areas of Valdosta and Augusta because of Hurricane Helene.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is opening up its campgrounds for those people who are evacuating.

Georgia State Parks said they are open and prepared to receive visitors impacted by Hurricane Milton, but several parks remain closed because of Helene.

Here is a map of all the parks and their status for visitors:

Yipes. Latest update shows a "wobble" in the track which can be seen with very strong hurricanes. This complicates trying to forecast the track for landfall.

Milton demographics just updated 16:30 CST:

Looks like another intensification

Sustained wind speed: 165 mph ( Has increased) Category 5
Barometric Pressure 905 mb ( Has Decreased)
Present movement: 9 mph ( Steady in low speed range for hurricanes =low range for hurricanes is 5-10 mph)
Hurricane diameter roughly 140 miles ( Wind field has expanded).

In other words, there is a lot of energy in this storm and it continues to get larger with higher sustained wind speed.
