Buzzm1,I did not think of the poor community aspect until you just posted it.
It reminds me of when New Orleans was told to evacuate. The poor were mainly the ones to suffer. No vehicles to transport the out of the city. Some had no communication to even know that something was wrong.Actions out of poverty were not in my thoughts when I posted.Thank-you.
I don't think the family was living in abject poverty, but I do think they were low income. That was a given connection in my mind without even thinking about it. I saw a fair amount of poverty growing up, so I know that people, living close to the edge, don't do things intentionally to break the law, but mostly out of necessity.

We were framing the picture differently.

Hi Buzzm1,yes we were framing things differently.I thank-you for your posts.Debate enlightens people.

A terrible tragedy with the truck driver most likely at fault.

Still, I do not think the 15 year old should have been driving illegally and especially with children....an older driver may have noticed the semi coming up from behind and pulled out of the way onto the shoulder of the road or something. I know I look behind to make sure no one is going to rear end me when I am stopping and have traffic coming up behind me.

I am also wondering what school a 20 month old was coming home from? Why was it necessary for the baby to be in the car? surely a 20 month old should have been at home and not out in any car with an underage driver ever. I think the poor 15 year old girl was being given way to much responsibility to handle as a beginning driver.

I do feel bad for this woman and her remaining family to have lost so many members in such a tragic and pointless accident.

SNIP.
Maybe So, by the time your realized the oncoming driver wasn't going to stop, it would be too late to back up a few feet, to pull off to the side, and in this case, there didn't appear to be a shoulder in that area.

I once was in a situation, where traffic was stopped, and I was sitting there, looking in my rear view mirror, I watched the light change behind me. The traffic, at that light behind me, pulled out, and within a second, I relaized the guy in the middle lane, was racing to pull ahead of the guy in the right lane, and had his eyes shifted over in that direction. Within another split second I had already figured out that, based on the rate that he was pulling ahead of the guy on his right, and where he was going to be when he got to me, and with him not looking in front of him, I knew I was going to get rear-ended by a guy doing about 50mph. I had no time to react, and nowhere to go. He drove my back end up over my back wheels, so it was a hell of a collision. Drove my car right into the back end of the brand new Mercedes, that was in front of me.

LAKE BUTLER - A truck driver who plowed into a car at a school bus stop last week killing seven children had been awake for 34 hours, except for a short nap, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board said Friday.

Blood tests showed he had not been using alcohol or drugs, Leeper said. Rayburn said Wilkerson was not using his cell phone at the time of the accident.

I know this is going to sound really weird.......but it's almost like the grandfather died so the children would have someone on the other side.

What a heartbreaking story
