The only reason the defense are so adamant the girls were taken elsewhere is because they know RA doesn’t have a alibi.

So they need to move the time when they were killed so they can claim their client was elsewhere.

I’m not sure. It seems as though the state locked in their time of crime quite early, so I really don’t know what other information they may have collected for the overnight hours or the following day.

Well, it is more believable than other implied reasons, like the killer returned and turned it on, or the girls were taken somewhere, then marched back to the crime scene while searchers were still urgently looking for them, imo.
