I have a question for people who have worked or are currently working as prostitutes: what would be the reason you would agree to leave your phone at home when meeting a client? I've thought about this again and again, and I always come back to trust. While I can imagine a drug addicted prostitute might go with a client they felt slightly uneasy about if they were promised a large some of money, I have a hard time believing a woman would leave her phone at home simply because she was offered a lot of money.
I think a lot of people consider their cell phones their lifelines, and I think a prostitute, especially one working independently, would feel even more attached to their phone. Because it always comes back to trust for me, I have been thinking about how a prostitute would come to trust a client so completely. I think the most obvious answer is numerous, previous positive/uneventful experience with the client. However, after watching a program about Steve Wright (AKA The Suffolk Strangler), I had another idea on how a client could gain trust, or gain trust faster. If you don't know who Steve Wright is, he's a serial killer who murdered a number of prostitutes in England, and
he was known to cross-dress.
Would any current or former prostitutes be able to weigh in how they would perceive a cross-dressing male client?
After thinking about Steve Wright, I started thinking about Fred and Rosemary West. Rosemary worked as a prostitute (not on the streets, as far as I know), and she and Fred raped/sexually assaulted and murdered a number of vulnerable young women. It seems a lot of these young women were picked up when they were hitch hiking, waiting at bus stops, etc.
I then started thinking about Willie Pickton, the Canadian serial killer who murdered several prostitutes. From what I can recall from a book I read on the case, at least 2 women, one of which worked as a prostitute, helped him get some of his victims to his home (a lot of prostitutes didn't want to travel to his farm, especially after people began to realize a serial killer was preying on women in their area).
Would any former or current prostitutes be able to weight in on how a female counterpart would impact their perception of a client? Also, if a woman/prostitute arranged for you to meet a client, would you trust that client more?
I'm not saying I necessarily believe any of these scenarios relate to the LISK, but I think some insight into how these types of clients would be perceived by prostitutes would help me understand how certain factors can impact the trust dynamic between prostitutes and clients.
