He was supposed to pick up a friend from the airport on August 31, 1985 for a hunting trip scheduled for September 1, 1985. He failed to arrive at the airport and has never been heard from again. At the time of his disappearance, Garcia had been in Alaska for approximately six months doing business as the Ivory Runner. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Could James have been planning to borrow a friend's vehicle? Or maybe rent one for that Labor Day weekend, since it was for a hunting trip?

James disappeared four days before the friend arrived, so maybe he just didn't get around to arranging for the vehicle yet.

Good point. I missed the time gap between date last seen and the friend arriving.
