I got curious. I looked this up on various sites.
South Africa abolished the Death Penalty in 1995. Before 1995, they
had a very high rate of execution by hanging. Now, their prisons are
grossly overcrowded with a shortage of staff. Most inmates have to opt
for Legal Aid being too poor for a defense team. Sounds like BSS is
probably relieved he gets to do the rest of his lifetime in an American
prison.
Ah, but Alaska has overcrowding also. In fact, there's no Federal prisons
there, only state prisons. If it's a federal crime, prisoners get sent to an
Oregon prison. I guess they could transfer him to do his time in another
U.S. state anyways? He no longer controls his fate.
