Editor’s Note: This is a developing story. We will update as more information is available.

Alaska State Troopers and the Kodiak Police Department are asking for the public’s help locating a 7-year-old boy named Sawyer, who went missing in the Monashka Bay Road area of Kodiak on Saturday afternoon. Sawyer is autistic, and responds to “come on in.” He was last seen on Forest Drive, which is off of Three Sisters Way, at 12:20 p.m., Sat., May 7, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

Tim DeSpain is a public information officer for the Alaska State Troopers. He said residents in the neighborhoods near Monashka Bay Road should check sheds, garages and any other potential hiding places on their properties. Over 100 volunteers are currently searching for the boy as of 7 p.m., according to DeSpain, including members of Kodiak Police Department, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Alaska State Troopers, City of Kodiak Fire Department, Bayside Volunteer Fire Department, Kodiak Island Search and Rescue, Coast Guard sector Anchorage/Air Station Kodiak and local residents.

Sawyer was last seen wearing grey pants and a camouflage top with hiking boots, according to an Alaska State Troopers press release.

DeSpain says anyone who has seen Sawyer should call the Kodiak Police Department at 907-486-8000.

I'm so afraid for this little one. He is so very vulnerable. <modsnip: Discussing general comments in any fashion is off limits>

According to the following article, his full name is Sawyer DeSpain and his dad is the public information officer for the Alaska State Troopers.

The Kodiak Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers are asking the Kodiak public for assistance with locating an autistic 7-year-old boy named Sawyer DeSpain, who has been missing in the Monashka Bay Road area since Saturday morning.

AST says that Sawyer, the son of the AST’s Public Information Officer Tim DeSpain, was last seen on Forest Drive off of Three Sister’s Way at just after noon, when last seen, he was wearing gray pants and a camouflage top.

Homeowners are asked to check garages, sheds, and other places where a child can hide.

At least 100 volunteers including members of Kodiak Police Department, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Alaska State Troopers, City of Kodiak Fire Department, Bayside Volunteer Fire Department, Kodiak Island Search, and Rescue, Coast Guard sector Anchorage/Air Station Kodiak and volunteers from the public, according to DeSpain. No he has not been found. Kodiak is a small community where everyone know everyone. The Coast guard are very big in this search. helicopters have been searching along with ground searching, dogs have been brought in and people are waiting to replace search teams as they get tired. My daughter lives there. Please pray that he is found soon.

We read about Sawyer potentially responding to "come on in" but I hadn't seen reports on Brigadier & howling. I hope LE have shared all of this info with searchers and nearby homeowners/workers.

Sat., May 7
[Snip] Sawyer is autistic, and responds to “come on in,” or the name “Brigadier.” He may also respond to vocal howling.[Snip]

It's possible that they are offering a reward to entice locals to help search. If someone brings the kid home then they will be rewarded. Not sure that they are saying it bc they suspect he was taken from his yard. Hoping for the best for this little dude.
There is not a problem getting locals to help search. They are waiting for there turn to search. There are so many people that are searching.

@Unalienable Rights just a friendly note that you might want to change the last name in the thread title - right now it shows as "Sawyer DeSpain" but it is actually "Sawyer Cipolla". (I think I see where the "DeSpain" came in, Tim DeSpain was the public information officer in the OP article).

Other articles have said that he is the son of Tim DeSpain. From previous links:

The Kodiak Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers are asking the Kodiak public for assistance with locating an autistic 7-year-old boy named Sawyer DeSpain

AST says that Sawyer, the son of the AST’s Public Information Officer Tim DeSpain,

Maybe he is Tim DeSpain's step-son.,,,or maybe the press got it wrong. In any case, the name on the missing poster -- Cipolla -- must be the correct one.

If LE and SAR are reading this thread, there are some things I want to pass on. First is that children with autism will tend to hide if they become frightened. Searchers and Police can appear as strangers and cause them to hide. Look under every bush, thicket, and anywhere else a child can crawl in and hide. Second, get an experienced Footprint Tracker in the place last seen and have them start track trailing Sawyer. They may have to circle the place last seen a number of times until they can pick up the exit trail given the number of individuals who have walked all over the area.
